bChapter /b14

ALINA’S POV

I was beginning to wonder what was going on inside when the unmistakable disgusting sound of them making out reached my ears.

Bile rose in my throat.

Having had enough, I pulled out my phone from my purse and pretended to be on a call, just so they could have enough time topose themselves.

“It’s not your business where I am, Lucian. I don’t belong to you. Back off.” I spoke loudly, making sure my voice carried into the room

I heard ruffling from inside. I was very sure Seraphina was definitely scrambling to hide right about ΠΟΥ,

“You’ll see me when you see me, Lucian. Bye.” I concluded my pretend call with a dramatic end, then bpushed /bthe door to his ward open

“Hey, baby, you came. Adrian greeted me with a smile that might have once melted my heart once upon a time but now all I wanted to do was gag!--

My eyes did a quick bsweep /bof the room. Seraphina was nowhere to be seen. She was probably hiding in the bathroom,

“I told you I would, didn’t I?” I forced a smile as I ced the basket of fruits and lilies on the table beside his bed.

He sneezed

“Are there tulips in there?” He asked, rubbing his nose with his bbandaged /barm

“No, those are lilies. I know you’re allergic to tulipsb, /bbso /bI wouldn’t bring those.” bI /breplied sweetly, shooting him a smile for bgood /bmeasure.

Truth was, I had spritzed some tulip fragrance on the lilies–not enough to cause a severe reaction, but just enough to make him ufortable.

He bobserved /bthe flowers skeptically, but all he could see were libes.

“How do you feel?” I asked, steering the conversation away from his obvious difort.

“Horrible.” He stiffed, his nose already turning red. “The doctor said I have a couple of broken ribs and that I’ll have to stay in the hospital for some time.

Yikes.

Sucks to be him. But honestly, I was d to see him in pain. I just wished I had been the one to cause it. But s, I had to make do of

this satisfaction.

All indue time though.

“I can’t believe Lucian would do this to you,” I said bin /bba /bfake, sad toneb, /bwhile inside, I was practically dancing with glee. “bI’m /bgoing to give him a piece bof /bmy mind when bI /bget back. He is bso /bunbelievable. I’m going to break off the engagement when–”

“bNo/b!” Adrian cut me off my rambling, almost shouting.

“What?” I asked, feigning confusion.

“bYou /bcan’t break off the engagement.” He tried to sound casual, but I caught the slight bpanic /bin his voice.

Well, bthat /bwas new.

“Why not? We can be together then. Or… don’t byou /blove me anymore!” I tilted my head, pretending to be wounded.

Loyd, can this be over soon?

“Of course I love you, babe.” He bsaid /bquickly, taking my hands in his

The contact made my bskin /bcrawl literally. I could feel goosebumps appearing on my skin–and not the good kind. I had to restrain

myself physically from yanking my hands away.

“Then why don’t you want me to break off the engagement?” I pouted slightly.

Damn pretending is exhausting.

Adrian never did anything unless it somehow served his own interests. That much I hade to realize about him at this point.

“You need to get him to trust you, remember?” He said, caressing the back of my hand like I was some obedient little animal.

But I knew that wasn’t bit/b.

He wanted something.

“So.. byou /bdon’t want me to break up with him?” I asked again, just to confirm.

“Just hang in there and don’t do anything silly until I tell you to, bokay/b?” His tone was patronizing, like he was speaking bto /ba child.

I wanted to smack his already bruised face.

“Okay.” I responded. “Do you want me to peel some fruit for you?” I asked, using the excuse to finally bpull /bmy hands away from his.

Adrian serves no serious threat to me right now. Seraphina, on the other hand, was the one I needed to focus on

“Yes babe.” He smiled at me.

“Let me just quickly go bwash /bit in the bathroom,” I said, standing up and taking some fruits. But bjust /bas I was about to make my way toward the bathroom, his voice startled me

“No!” His tone was loud and sharp making me drop the fruit in fright. I had to fight back a smile.

I knew why he didn’t want me to go in there. His little lover was hiding inside.

“But I have to wash it before you can eat” 1 let out innocently, enjoying the panic in his eyes.

“Don’t worry about it. I suddenly.. I’m not in the mood to eat fruit right now.” He muttered, rubbing the back of his neck nervously

Of course he wasn’t

The urge to scoff was strong.

“Alright then.” I bent down to pick up the fallen fruit and ced them back in the basket. “Till just spend time with you.” I sat back down.

“You don’t have to stay.” He said quickly, a big too urgently.

“Are you chasing me away?” A frown appeared on my face.

I was really good at this.

“Nob, /bbbabe/b.” He grabbed bmy /bhand again.

Ughhh. Can someone please tell him to stop touching me?

“I just don’t want byou /bto get in trouble with Lucian. You know how he

be.” He added, pretending to care.

But deep down, we both knew the real reason he wanted me gone was in the bathroom.

I stared at him for a couple of seconds, relishing in the way he squirmed under my gaze.

“Alright.” I finally said, breleasing /bhim from the bsilent /bpressure I had him under.

The breath of relief he let out was visible, but I pretended not to notice.

“I’ll try toe see you again, bbut /bafter today it might be bhard/b.” I grabbed my purse band /bstood up.

“Alright, babe. Just go quickly before Lucian sends a search party” He practically shooed me away.

was red and why he was sneezing before finally walking out of his ward.

I muttered to myself as I walked away from the door and stepped outside the hospital.

The fresh evening air that hit my nostrils bwas /ba wee change from the suffocating hospital stench–but before I could even enjoy it. my eyes fell upon a figure lounging by the car.

Clearly bwaiting /bfor me.
