Rebirth of the Movie Queen: Mrs. Sinclair, Please Hug Me!
Chapter 43: Unfair Contract
CHAPTER 43: CHAPTER 43: UNFAIR CONTRACT
Elias Sinclair saw this and immediately called Cameron Grant, all the while keeping his eyes on the screen.
Meanwhile, on the other end, Cameron Grant was in the middle of discussing a business collaboration with a client, and his phone was on silent, so he didn’t hear it.
Seeing that the call wasn’t connecting, Elias Sinclair frowned deeply. Watching the screen where Quinn Lockwood’s figure vanished, he suddenly stood up, grabbed the coat draped over the chair, and was about to head out.
After all, this was something his close friend had personally asked him to take care of. He couldn’t afford to make any mistakes, especially since Cameron Grant rarely asked others for help—he had to show his respect.
More importantly, the person who disappeared was Cameron Grant’s sister, his nominal wife.
"President Sinclair, where are you going?"
Just as Elias Sinclair was about to leave, Joyce Kramer suddenly called out to stop him.
At the moment Quinn Lockwood appeared on the screen, her pupils dilated in shock, looking incredulously at Elias Sinclair.
She had never thought that the press conference Elias Sinclair mentioned was actually Quinn Lockwood’s news clarification conference. Since when had he been so concerned about that woman?
And when he saw that woman was in trouble, he wanted to rush out without saying a word, further making her heart tremble.
Joyce Kramer stared intently at Elias Sinclair, eagerly awaiting his response, praying that he wouldn’t let her down.
"Handling personal matters, you take care of the documents for now."
Elias Sinclair glanced at the documents and instructed Joyce Kramer before hastily leaving.
Joyce Kramer watched Elias Sinclair’s departing figure, suddenly feeling a bit disappointed. Was he really doing this for Savannah Lowell?
She frowned deeply, clenched her fist tightly. How could someone she had loved for five years care so much about another woman?
She couldn’t believe a person could change so quickly; there must be another reason.
Elias Sinclair arrived at the press conference scene in a hurry. However, after searching every corner, he didn’t see any sign of Quinn Lockwood. He tried hard to recall the details just now, who on earth took Quinn Lockwood, yet there was no conclusion.
"Eh, isn’t that Mr. Sinclair from The Sinclair Group?"
A reporter accidentally spotted Elias Sinclair and instantly cried out in surprise.
In no time at all, the reporters who were about to leave suddenly surged forward as if seeing some hope.
"Mr. Sinclair, did you watch the live broadcast and worry about Miss Lowell’s safety, so you came rushing here?"
"According to reports, Miss Lowell has been persistently pestering you, using pregnancy to force you; is that true?"
"Recently, there have been rumors about Miss Lowell and fellow company artist Dylan Quinn. What is your take on that?"
Microphones were shoved in front of Elias Sinclair, making him feel incredibly annoyed. Subconsciously, he remembered Quinn Lockwood and how that woman was questioned every time like this.
Elias Sinclair paused for a moment and then pushed the reporters away, leaving the scene without responding. The reporters looked at each other but did not have the courage to continue pressing like they used to with Quinn Lockwood.
Outside the scene, Quinn Lockwood was taken into a van; the windows were covered with curtains, so she couldn’t see outside and didn’t know where she was now.
"Who are you, and where are you taking me?"
Two burly bodyguards sat beside Quinn Lockwood. Due to the disparity in strength, Quinn Lockwood dared not struggle too much.
"You’ll know in a while."
The driver in the front glanced at Quinn Lockwood, saying in a deep voice.
Quinn Lockwood found the voice familiar, and upon seeing the decor in the car, she immediately realized what was happening.
The car stopped in front of the agency, just as Quinn Lockwood expected. She let out a snort of disdain.
"Let go of me!"
Upon entering the company, Quinn Lockwood saw Anna. She angrily shook off the bodyguard holding her, walked over, and demanded, "What is the meaning of this?"
"This is the decision of the company’s board. I had warned you before, without the board’s approval, this press conference was doomed to fail."
Anna folded her arms, looking down on Quinn Lockwood.
"So to stop this press conference, you thought it was acceptable to forcibly bring me over? Don’t you know it’s illegal? I can sue you."
Quinn Lockwood angrily condemned the company’s actions.
Previously, they didn’t hesitate to tarnish an artist’s reputation for the sake of hype. Now, they blatantly took an artist away. Who knows what more outrageous things they would do in the future.
"Sue the company? What you should worry about now is yourself. The company took you away for your own good."
Anna raised her eyebrows, seemingly mocking Quinn Lockwood’s ignorance.
"For my own good, it’s audacious of you to say that."
Quinn Lockwood rolled her eyes, full of disdain. She didn’t want to hear any more about how this was for her future popularity and development.
If it was really as the company said, that she had to rely on hype and negative news to create popularity, she would rather not have it.
"You should know the things you’re doing now are worthless, and in the end, you’ll still have to obediently listen."
Anna shook her head helplessly, giving a look of pity towards Quinn Lockwood.
"What do you mean?"
Quinn Lockwood frowned in confusion, a bad feeling suddenly arising in her heart.
"Look at this." Seeing persuasion was futile, Anna threw a contract to Quinn Lockwood.
Quinn Lockwood picked up the contract and looked over it with partial understanding. It was the contract signed when she joined the company.
One clause was clearly magnified, stating that the artist could not respond to the media without company approval; otherwise, they had to pay ten times the penalty for breach of contract.
Ten times? Quinn Lockwood’s eyes widened in shock. This was simply an exploitative contract. She couldn’t imagine how Savannah Lowell had agreed to sign it back then.
Anna was very satisfied with Quinn Lockwood’s reaction, which was exactly what the company wanted to see. She slowly walked over and whispered in Quinn Lockwood’s ear,
"So, you’ve seen it, if today’s press conference proceeds, you’ll have to bear the company’s ten times penalty. As far as I know, with your current capability, it’s an astronomical figure.
The company is doing this for your own good. As long as you comply, they won’t hold it against you and will continue to treat you as before. You absolutely shouldn’t do anything against the company."
Quinn Lockwood suddenly understood. No wonder Anna said earlier that what she was doing was useless. The company had held a trump card from the start, knowing well she couldn’t afford the penalty.
In fact, this money wasn’t much for the Lowell Family, but Quinn Lockwood’s relationship with Mr. and Mrs. Lowell had just started to improve, and she didn’t want to bother them, nor let others know she was the Lowell family’s heiress.
"Savannah, heed my advice; give it up. You can’t win against the company."
Seeing Quinn Lockwood deep in thought, Anna added fuel to the fire on the side.
Quinn Lockwood ignored her but thought to herself that indeed the press conference couldn’t proceed, so she needed to find another way and not let things escalate further.
