CHAPTER 64: CHAPTER 64: A FAMILY OF THREE

Quinn Lockwood’s attitude was resolute, causing Elias Sinclair to furrow his brow. His hand on the steering wheel subconsciously tightened as an unusual feeling gradually grew in his heart.

He stared ahead, unexpectedly lost in thought for a brief moment! His foot on the accelerator unknowingly pressed down harder.

"Ah! Stop!"

At this moment, Quinn Lockwood suddenly shouted, anxiously reaching for the steering wheel in an attempt to intervene.

Elias Sinclair snapped back to reality, only to find a little girl on the road in front. His pupils instantly widened, and he frantically turned the steering wheel.

"Bang."

As the car crashed into the guardrail at the roadside, Quinn Lockwood’s heart finally settled - fortunately, they hadn’t hit the child.

Elias Sinclair also breathed a little heavier, recalling the moment and feeling incredulous that he had been distracted by her.

Damn it, what was wrong with him!

His gaze instinctively flicked to Quinn Lockwood. For a moment, he was desperate to confirm she was alright, but this emotion quickly vanished.

He told himself it was because if anything happened to Quinn Lockwood, his grandfather would be very upset, hence the strange feeling.

Quinn Lockwood came back to her senses and found her hand, which was gripping the steering wheel, tightly held by Elias Sinclair. It must have been unintentional in the heat of the moment. She immediately withdrew her hand and got out of the car.

Elias Sinclair looked at his hand in a daze, with obscure eyes pondering something. The next instant, he quickly opened the car door.

As soon as Quinn Lockwood got out of the car, she staggered toward the little girl without a word to check on her, only to find the girl already unconscious.

Quinn Lockwood’s heart skipped a beat. Clearly, they hadn’t hit her. So why was this happening?

She anxiously reached out to feel the breathing from the girl’s nose, and once she sensed the steady breath, she finally relaxed.

"How is she?" Elias Sinclair came over, asking in a deep voice.

"Looks like she fainted..."

As soon as Quinn Lockwood finished speaking, Elias Sinclair had already picked up the little girl and quickly placed her in the back seat.

Seeing Elias Sinclair’s figure as he carried the little girl, Quinn Lockwood inexplicably felt a bit less disgusted with Elias.

So, even the frosty face could save people.

On the drive to the hospital, Quinn Lockwood would occasionally look back at the girl, her hands twisting nervously, deeply worried about the girl’s condition.

Although she didn’t know why Elias Sinclair had been distracted, she felt it had a lot to do with her, making her feel very guilty.

If something happened to the little girl, how guilty she would feel.

Though her previous life’s experiences weren’t good, and she had once said she wouldn’t be naive and let others bully her again, her kind nature made it impossible for her not to care.

Quinn Lockwood’s actions inadvertently disrupted Elias Sinclair’s thoughts. He could sense her anxiety, feeling complicated inside.

Savannah Lowell had always been indifferent to others and disliked pets; he never thought she would be so compassionate. His gaze toward Quinn Lockwood gradually softened.

"She’ll be okay." Unknowingly, Elias Sinclair uttered a few words.

Though he was shocked himself, seeing Quinn Lockwood’s anxious look made him want to comfort her.

Quinn Lockwood was entirely focused on the little girl, not noticing Elias Sinclair’s expression and tone when he spoke. Otherwise, she would feel like she’d seen a ghost.

Upon arriving at the hospital, given the crowd, Quinn Lockwood didn’t want to be recognized to avoid unnecessary trouble, so she let Elias Sinclair take the girl for treatment first, while she entered from another side, well hidden.

Now only Elias Sinclair was left at the emergency room door. Quinn Lockwood anxiously walked up, "How is she?" She asked while looking at the closed emergency room door, her heart sinking.

"The doctors are conducting a full examination on her."

Elias Sinclair leaned against the door waiting, perhaps not even realizing himself that he spoke to Quinn Lockwood this way for the first time.

No sarcasm, no ridicule, just calmly answering, as if talking to an old friend.

Quinn Lockwood paused, then nodded, not thinking much, and leaned against the door, waiting like Elias Sinclair.

Soon, a few doctors and nurses wheeled the girl out. Quinn Lockwood immediately approached them and asked, "Doctor, how is she? Is she all right?"

"She’s fine. She fainted from shock during the accident, but there’s no major harm. A period of rest is all that’s needed, don’t worry."

After speaking, the doctor waved his hand and left; the nurse pushed the girl into the ward.

"Thank you." Quinn Lockwood’s heart finally calmed down, she sat by the girl’s bedside, keeping watch.

Seeing this scene, Elias Sinclair’s gaze was fixed on Quinn Lockwood’s worried profile - something even he hadn’t noticed was gentle.

It wasn’t long before the girl finally woke up; perhaps the accident had frightened her, making her quite scared of them.

"Don’t be afraid. Do you remember where you live or your family’s phone number?"

Quinn Lockwood patted the girl’s head, trying to make her words as gentle as possible.

Quinn Lockwood looked at the girl full of anticipation, maybe she’d remember her home’s address or her family’s contact details.

The girl shook her head and avoided Quinn Lockwood’s gaze, clearly unwilling to speak.

Seeing the girl was unwilling to communicate, Quinn Lockwood’s delicate brows furrowed, and she quickly thought of a solution, coaxing, "How about this, let’s play a game. The loser has to grant the winner a wish, like treating them to something delicious..."

The girl seemed about five or six years old, this move worked best, her eyes brightening at the mention of food, timidly nodding, "Okay."

So the pair played a finger-counting game, with Quinn Lockwood intentionally losing to the girl.

"Oh no, I lost again. I must keep my word; does the little one have any wishes, or something they’d like to eat..." Quinn Lockwood pouted, pretending to be unwilling.

After all, she was just a child; during her game with Quinn Lockwood, she gradually relaxed. Seeing herself win, she blinked shyly, "Sister... I’d like... to eat a chicken leg... and have some cola."

Quinn Lockwood flicked her nose, seeing she wasn’t resisting her anymore, felt relieved, "Even though I want to get you some cola too, we’re in the hospital, and the doctor said you can only have porridge, or else they’ll send in the nurse to give you a shot. So, once you’re better, sister will get you a burger and cola, okay?"

Due to the shock, the girl was still very weak physically, so Quinn Lockwood had to scare her a little so she would eat some liquid food.

"So, you should drink more porridge to recover faster."

"Alright then... shh."
