CHAPTER 973: CHAPTER 975: HOW DID YOU KNOW I WANTED TO BUY THIS?

Shuanghe Village.

Xu Nianhua sat by the window translating a book, more than half of it was done, but now, she couldn’t focus at all. She gazed out the window, always feeling that the person she longed for day and night would appear at any moment.

They hadn’t seen each other in half a month, not even having time for a phone call. She was busy translating scripts every day, so she didn’t feel it. But as the agreed time approached, this hidden longing grew wildly.

Until today, the delay made her even more anxious at heart.

Outside was a vast white stretch; the distant mountains’ once green bamboo was bent under the weight of the heavy snow.

Suddenly Xu Nianhua blinked, spotting that tall, black figure, thinking she was mistaken. She rubbed her eyes, and once sure it was Pei Yicheng, her heart leapt with joy. Her previously low spirits felt like they had just ridden a rollercoaster straight to the clouds.

"Brother Cheng."

By the time Xu Nianhua dashed downstairs, Pei Yicheng was already in the courtyard.

He carried a large backpack, and seeing Xu Nianhua standing at the door, her radiant smile always had a power to warm hearts.

"Brother Cheng." Xu Nianhua was so excited she felt an impulse to throw herself into his arms. But, knowing her sister-in-law and Zhuangzhuang had gone visiting and could return any moment, and her mother was at the furniture factory and might come back soon too, she held back.

"Sorry to make you worry." Pei Yicheng reached out, subconsciously wanting to hold her hand, but his hands were ice-cold from the journey. He entered the house and asked, "Are uncle and aunt not home?"

"My parents are at the factory, sister-in-law took Zhuangzhuang out visiting, and my elder brothers went to the back mountain to dig bamboo shoots." Xu Nianhua said while making the living room’s charcoal fire burn brighter and poured tea for Pei Yicheng, "Brother Cheng, it’s really cold outside, right? How did you get home in such heavy snow?"

Pei Yicheng accepted the tea, listening to her concerned tone, but didn’t answer. Instead, he asked, "Can you guess?"

"The snow is so thick, cars might not be able to get through easily, right?" Xu Nianhua speculated, looking at Pei Yicheng uncertainly.

Pei Yicheng took a sip of the hot tea and replied, "It’s indeed not easy to pass."

"Why don’t you try to guess what gifts I brought you?" Pei Yicheng changed the subject, not wanting Nianhua to know that he had walked back.

"Something to eat?" Xu Nianhua guessed uncertainly, looking at his bulging backpack.

Pei Yicheng took out a bag of chocolates and said, "Your favorite."

"Thank you, Brother Cheng." Xu Nianhua looked at the bag of chocolates, silently thinking that Brother Cheng seemed to particularly enjoy buying her chocolates.

Suddenly, a thick, brick-like object was placed at her feet. Looking at the newspaper-wrapped item, she couldn’t help but ask, "Brother Cheng, what is this?"

"Guess and open it to see." Pei Yicheng encouraged her with a smile.

Xu Nianhua took it in hand, already having some suspicions. When she truly unwrapped the newspaper, she found it was a newly printed English-Chinese dictionary.

"Brother Cheng, how did you know I wanted to buy this?"

Xu Nianhua was extremely surprised. She roughly knew most of the words because she was translating a book, but some words she wasn’t sure about, and she hadn’t brought back her old dictionary. The one sold in the county wasn’t the latest edition. She was just thinking about whether to go to the city to buy one. Unexpectedly, Pei Yicheng bought it for her!

"Because, our hearts are connected, and I guessed you would definitely like this." Pei Yicheng looked at her happy face, thinking all the trouble he went through, visiting several bookstores to find this dictionary, was worth it.
