CHAPTER 853: CHAPTER 502: ANOTHER HEARTBEAT
Liu Chuandao’s cigarettes went missing. Despite the serious blow, he surprisingly didn’t call a meeting for Class 8.
He swallowed his grievances and chose to keep silent.
During Gao Heshuai’s class in the morning, Liu Chuandao was caught sleeping and was punished to stand at the back of the classroom, suffering a double blow.
1:50 PM.
The high school military training started gathering.
Cui Yu carried a bag in his left hand and leisurely waved a folding fan with his right hand as he slowly headed towards the playground.
On the way, he happened to run into the Black and White Double Killers from Class 11, Gu Tai and Luo Jun, and greeted them good-naturedly: "Got the stuff?"
Gu Tai, with a dark face and a hint of smugness, said: "Do I need to be reminded?"
With that, he and his good buddy Luo Jun headed to the sports equipment room to bring out the canopy.
Soon, Cui Yu arrived at the playground, walking with his hands behind his back, waving his fan as if inspecting the new students’ military training like a leader.
The formations on the field—the new students sweating under the blazing sun—glared at Cui Yu as soon as they saw him.
Cui Yu chuckled, took an ice cream out of his bag, and bribed the young instructor first.
In the scorching heat, under the blazing sun, no one could bear such exposure. However, as an instructor, he initially refused.
Cui Yu, with his thick skin and playful smile, said: "These Choco Popsicles are really good, have a taste!"
The instructor eventually accepted it.
Only after that, Cui Yu took out another one, opened the package elegantly in front of the guys and gals in the formation.
He displayed a particularly sleazy expression, took a big bite of the ice cream and exclaimed: "Oh wow, it’s so cold!"
He ate while walking along the formation, saying, "Cool and refreshing little popsICLE, whoever eats it will feel good!"
"Who’s eating, grab a stick!"
Cui Yu waved the popsicle in front of the freshman military trainees.
Their eyes looked like they wanted to kill him. Cui Yu enjoyed the thrill, liking it when others wanted to challenge him but couldn’t.
After finishing with one formation, Cui Yu moved to another, still bribing with popsicles ahead of time.
When he encountered popsicles he couldn’t give away, he kept switching, to prevent the instructor from controlling the students.
It was delightful but a bit costly, considering that each Choco Popsicle was several yuan. Luckily, Cui Yu had a substantial fortune from working as a gaming booster during the summer.
He shouted: "Who is comfort left for?"
The freshmen, constrained by the instructor, couldn’t reply.
Cui Yu bit into a Choco Popsicle, giving a wicked grin: "The comfort is left for me!"
Soon, Gu Tai and Luo Jun arrived. They had brought the canopy and also some tables and chairs. After setting up, they sat down and took out their treasured items.
Gu Tai played the suona, while Luo Jun played the erhu.
The mournful melody rang out, making people’s skin crawl. The freshmen were on the verge of going crazy.
...
Class 8.
After a morning of rest, Liu Chuandao finally regained his spirit.
He and Duan Shigang wandered outside the school and passed by a fruit shop: "How about getting some melons to eat?"
Duan Shigang replied: "They’re pretty big, can we finish them?"
Liu Chuandao said: "If we can’t finish, it’s easy to handle, there are lots of classmates in the class."
This was a good chance to give it to Jiang Yanan, killing two birds with one stone.
After deciding, Liu Chuandao bought a watermelon, and together they ate half and wrapped the rest to take back to the classroom.
Liu Chuandao was somewhat worried: "What if Jiang Yanan doesn’t accept it?"
Last time he tried to give breakfast, but it didn’t work out.
Duan Shigang, who had enjoyed the melon from his good friend, was willing to help him pursue the girl he once liked.
He suggested: "Don’t give it directly, find an excuse; that way the girl won’t feel burdened."
Liu Chuandao was startled: "Woah, Gangzi, you really know your stuff, thinking so thoroughly."
Duan Shigang, being complimented like that, felt a bit smug: "Your Brother Gang didn’t just get by without reason back then."
Liu Chuandao instantly came up with several ideas, quickening his pace to the second floor with a thumping sound.
Entering the classroom, he felt the cool breeze from the big ceiling fan.
Liu Chuandao looked toward where Jiang Yanan was sitting, and sure enough, she was there.
Liu Chuandao carried the watermelon to the girls.
Yu Wen, Jiang Yanan, and Shen Qing’e all looked over at the same time.
Duan Shigang nudged his little brother Chuandao with his elbow, meaning it’s your time to shine.
Liu Chuandao placed the watermelon on the desk and said something Duan Shigang never expected:
"The watermelon Gangzi and I didn’t finish, we’re giving it to you guys."
Jiang Yanan: "?"
Shen Qing’e furrowed her brows.
Yu Wen thought to herself: ’Making us seem like beggars, who’d eat that?’
Duan Shigang: "Damn it!"
Naturally, Liu Chuandao was rejected.
Dong Qingfeng saw it, shook his head, and chuckled. Such a rookie mistake, though he never considered Liu Chuandao an enemy.
Dong Qingfeng took out the bag he had prepared from his desk, turned around, and faced the girls.
He brought out a sealed container, containing pre-packed chilled honeydew and grapes.
Dong Qingfeng said: "Bought too much fruit at noon, looks like I can’t finish it, could you help me out so I can decide which to eat first?"
"Thank you so much!" Dong Qingfeng said sincerely.
Jiang Yanan said: "Sure."
Yu Wen said: "We will definitely help you figure it out."
The girls gladly agreed.
Ignoring Liu Chuandao’s burning eyes, Dong Qingfeng turned back with a smile on his face.
The difference was clear, nothing more to worry about.
...
End of the second period.
Jiang Ning and Chen Siyu went to the campus supermarket to buy snacks to get through the third period of self-study.
Jiang Ning really liked snacks, whether during student days or later in the workplace. To say which era he liked best, it had to be the student days—this period of youth with a lack of entertainment opportunities, where a little happiness seemed all the more precious.
From the north side of the podium, Yang Sheng saw them and asked: "Jiang Ning, are you going to the supermarket?"
"Yes, do you need anything?"
Yang Sheng said: "An apple-flavored Fanta, I’ll pay you back when you get back."
Cui Yu overheard and shouted, holding his throat: "Jiang Ning, I want a bottle of Fanta too."
