Rebirth: Solely Cherished by the Devoted Commander
Chapter 37: Oppose
CHAPTER 37: CHAPTER 37: OPPOSE
Liu Qingshuang glared: "Am I the same as you? I have a city residence permit! But I can’t say this out loud, the leaders will criticize me if they find out."
"How are we different? Everyone is equal in a socialist country!"
"Anyway, you have to show me the letter! You’re up to no good, who knows what kind of shameless things are written in it!" As she spoke, she tried to grab it, but Sun Chan pushed her aside.
Sun Chan pushed her hand away: "I can show it to you, let’s gather all the leaders and read this letter out loud. If it’s a love letter, I’ll resign, if it’s not, you resign. How about that?"
Liu Qingshuang’s face turned pale. Seeing Sun Chan so confident, she didn’t dare to act rashly. If word got out about her slandering a colleague and trying to snatch a letter, it would certainly make her future mother-in-law look bad.
So in the end, Sun Chan obviously didn’t show her the letter, making Liu Qingshuang stomp her feet in anger.
Someone nearby told her: "Ignore her! She originally wanted to get her boyfriend’s sister in here to work, but even after talking to the bosses several times, they didn’t agree, and you got in instead. That’s why she’s upset with you." This girl, Yang Liu, looked graceful and was quite kind.
Sun Chan was enlightened: "So that’s how it is! Seems like a lot of people want to work here."
"Exactly! This is a good place. Work for a few years and you can become official, and there’s even a chance to get housing in the city. Plus, the benefits are good."
Sun Chan opened her mouth, surprised that Sister Guihua could help her get such a good job! She thought about visiting Guihua during break to thank her properly, while feeling a bit anxious, as her status here was somewhat unofficial.
On this day, while Sun Chan was picking up steamed buns, Liu Qingshuang carried a basin of water and passed by from behind.
"Move, make way for me!"
Sun Chan had stood off to the side as much as possible, but Liu Qingshuang’s basin still splashed some water on her, soaking her back. It was already late autumn, and Sun Chan shivered from the cold.
Liu Qingshuang exclaimed: "I told you to get out of the way, why didn’t you? I have to go back and refill!"
Sun Chan said nothing, but the cook next to her was unhappy: "Liu Qingshuang! You soaked her clothes and didn’t even offer to pay, yet you still blame her? The road is so wide, how could you splash water on someone?"
"She blocked the road herself, why blame me?"
"If you splashed water on me and had the same attitude, believe me, I’d slap you! Apologize now!"
Liu Qingshuang bit her lip angrily and glared at the cook.
Sun Chan didn’t want her colleagues to fight, so she grabbed a towel to wipe off: "Forget it. It’s not a big deal."
"Hmph. Smart move!" Liu Qingshuang left with the basin.
But she didn’t stay smug for long; that afternoon, while in the restroom pulling up her pants, a large basin of cold water splashed down from above, chilling her thoroughly, and she screamed, running out like a drenched rat, but everyone had left. She insisted it was Sun Chan’s doing.
But Sun Chan was in the backyard picking beans at the time, not having any chance to go over.
And so the matter was left unresolved, leaving Liu Qingshuang furious enough to faint.
Yang Liu smiled at Sun Chan. She had seen Sun Chan running from the restroom, jumping through the windows of the two offices.
Besides working in the cafeteria every day, Sun Chan went to the bookstore to buy many books about nursing, eager to learn about this field. She knew that with only a few years of education, it was impossible to attend nursing school, but gaining knowledge was still beneficial.
However, Liu Qingshuang kept eyeing her maliciously, finding various ways to trouble and argue with her. If someone else was in her shoes, they would have cried and quit long ago, but Sun Chan? She had been oppressed by many people in two lifetimes, and was already well-trained. She simply ignored Liu Qingshuang, giving her no advantage.
Originally, they were in the same dorm room, top and bottom bunks, but Liu Qingshuang would flip around like a pancake on the top bunk, always dropping things, and when she couldn’t find them, she’d claim Sun Chan took them. Others in the dorm thought Liu Qingshuang was being unreasonable and told her as much, prompting her to make a scene, even calling the Dormitory Director.
"Sun Chan! It was peaceful in the dorm before you arrived, now you’re stirring up chaos."
Sun Chan glanced at her: "Really trying to drive me away? Why?"
"Who’s driving you away? Today you have to clarify, Director. We can’t keep someone who talks nonsense like this!"
Sun Chan said: "I’ve got a clear conscience, ask the next dorm who causes trouble every day."
"Director..."
"Alright! It’s not a big deal." The Director moved Sun Chan to a different dorm.
Liu Qingshuang was not satisfied; just changing dorms? She couldn’t believe she couldn’t drive Sun Chan away with her scolding! But Sun Chan kept ignoring her, leaving Liu Qingshuang frustrated.
That day the cafeteria was making stuffed buns, each worker got two large turnip and meat buns for lunch. Sun Chan finished washing bowls, took her buns to the little grove out back, and sat reading while eating.
She was engrossed when a caretaker rushed over, asking: "Did you see an old man in a hospital gown? I just went to the restroom, and now he’s gone! He should be nearby, why can’t I find him?"
Sun Chan quickly finished her meal and began searching around. By then, the sky had started to darken; clouds were thick, and rain threatened. Everyone grew more frantic.
If something truly went wrong, it would affect the entire elderly care center, so all doctors and nurses hurriedly began searching.
Large raindrops began falling on Sun Chan and the others, soon turning into a heavy downpour.
"We need to go back. This area is all woods, we could be struck by lightning!" Amidst the heavy wind and rain, several flashes of lightning fell.
Everyone could only run back, hoping the old man had returned on his own.
Sun Chan walked for a bit, and amidst the thunder and lightning, thought she saw a figure hiding in the bushes. Her heart jumped; she wanted to call for the others, but they had already run off, and she didn’t quite know the terrain, leaving her alone.
She wiped the rain from her face, walked over, and crouched by the bushes: "Is it you, Sir? Come out, it’s raining too hard!"
The old man said nothing, eyes fixed on her, then suddenly turned to leave.
Sun Chan hurriedly chased him: "Sir!"
Another flash of lightning, and the tree next to her split in half, making Sun Chan scream and cover her ears. At that moment, the old man’s foot slipped, and he rolled down the hill.
