Rebirth: Solely Cherished by the Devoted Commander
Chapter 68: Very Absurd
CHAPTER 68: CHAPTER 68: VERY ABSURD
They didn’t stop and quickly left, taking advantage of the darkness to get in the car and head straight to Xiong’er Ridge.
The bag was never opened and was tossed to the very back of the truck bed. At first, Zhao Xiuxia struggled a bit inside, making muffled noises, but was kicked by Zhao Long: "Be quiet, or I’ll throw you down for the wolves right now!"
Zhao Xiuxia was both anxious and angry, having trouble breathing. On top of being betrayed by her own brother, she fainted directly. Zhao Biao felt embarrassed seeing his sister in the bag, but he had already thought of an excuse: when he caught Sun Chan, she escaped in the darkness, and he grabbed the wrong person.
Otherwise, he would end up in jail, and he couldn’t have that!
Xiong’er Ridge was covered in steep peaks. Although the terrain was perilous, there weren’t many plants, making it look barren and terrifying from afar. People inside the mountains struggled to get out, and those outside found it even harder to get in. Because they wanted to buy a bride, those two bachelors were already waiting early at the entrance of the mountain pass.
The car stopped, and a few brothers from the Zhao Family grabbed the bag with the person in it off the truck. The bag hit the ground, and Zhao Xiuxia moaned in pain, twisting her body continuously. She couldn’t have imagined being sold by her own brothers! It was simply outrageous!
The two brothers who came to buy her were short and stocky. They walked over without saying a word, grabbed the bag, and opened it to check. Confirming it was indeed a living person.
Zhao Biao’s heart was on edge, but fortunately, under the moonlight, he saw only black hair, a small frame, wearing a maroon shirt, with a white neck, definitely a woman.
Zhao Xiuxia quickly moved her body to struggle, but the two soon tied the bag again and casually tossed it into the cattle wagon behind them. Zhao Xiuxia hit her head on the wooden plank of the vehicle and fainted again.
Zhao Long, being the oldest, reached out for the money. The two glanced at them and handed over an envelope. A thick stack of cash made the brothers’ hearts race; they all huddled to split the money. They had agreed beforehand they wouldn’t help for free—two thousand yuan, Zhao Xiuxia would get eight hundred, and the remaining four brothers would get three hundred each. Zhao Biao took the money and, seeing the opportunity, turned around and left.
"Where are you going? Not taking the car?"
Zhao Biao said, "I’m going to town to play mahjong. Is it easy for me to get a bit of money?"
He thought to himself, if I stay on the truck and those two brothers realize something’s wrong and chase us, I’d be in trouble! He dashed out of the bushes, caught a small truck heading to town, paid ten yuan, hopped on, and left.
His brothers couldn’t be bothered with him either and drove off.
The two brothers quickly took the person to the village. The villagers were already aware of their plan, and many bachelors came to watch the spectacle. On such a dark and windy night, having been single for a long time, they inevitably had a restless heart, urging the two brothers to take a look at who they bought.
"For two thousand yuan, she must be pretty, right? If she’s ugly, we’d be at a loss."
The elder brother thought about it and threw the bag on the ground: "Let me inspect the goods first!"
The younger brother also leaned in, everyone saying Sun Chan was a beauty, they had to take a look.
But when they tore open the bag and removed the gag, a scream came out: "Damn you, Zhao Biao, I’m your sister, and you set me up like this!"
Why was her voice so coarse! The two leaned in for a look and simultaneously shouted in surprise—who would have thought they’d spent two thousand yuan on a middle-aged woman! Old and ugly, scared into wetting herself, and an unpleasant smell wafted over when they got close.
Their faces turned black, and they started cursing together: "Damn it, the Zhao Family dared to deceive us! Chase!"
One of them gave Zhao Xiuxia a fierce kick, then hastily headed outside. Zhao Xiuxia’s ribs hurt terrible, feeling as if they might break—it was terrifying.
The entire Xiong’er Ridge stood united, with the young ones rushing out to catch the perpetrators, and the old ones dragging Zhao Xiuxia back towards the village. Zhao Xiuxia struggled and was dragged along the ground.
"You’ve got the wrong person. You should have caught my daughter. Let me go!"
But who listened to her? If they couldn’t bring the person back, she would be the only clue and couldn’t be let loose!
Zhao Xiuxia cursed furiously: "Let me go, or my brothers back home will deal with you! You bastards, let me go!" She was fierce like a tigress when she bullied Sun Chan at home, but she forget that this was Xiong’er Ridge! These people never saw women as full human beings and could tolerate her behavior. Wasn’t she crazy!
Several men grabbed Zhao Xiuxia’s hair and beat her up.
"Shut up, you damned woman! Or we’ll beat you to death!"
Zhao Xiuxia quieted down, being thrown into the woodshed of those two brothers once they reached the village. Outside, several wolves barked at her continuously, baring their teeth, drooling—Zhao Xiuxia was utterly terrified.
"Help, someone save me! Ahh! Damn Sun Chan, I’ll kill you!" But she didn’t consider that if Sun Chan hadn’t known her well, it would’ve been her caught at Xiong’er Ridge tonight. Unfortunately, a woman like her will never introspect; she only harbors hatred towards Sun Chan, believing it’s all her fault!
Zhao Xiuxia didn’t think Zhao Biao had set her up either, thinking it might’ve been a mistake in the dark. Otherwise, why would her brother deliberately do such a thing?
The people of Xiong’er Ridge, despite their hasty efforts, couldn’t catch up with the Zhao Family men, who had left by car. But they knew the place; the monk can run away, but the temple can’t, so they’d pursue them tomorrow!
They clench their fists as they returned to deal with the old woman!
These two brothers were known for their fierceness and bravery in the village, and having taken such a big loss today, how could they swallow their pride!
Along the way, the villagers mocked the brothers’ foolishness.
"You guys are impressive, spending two thousand yuan without checking whether it was an old lady or a young girl. My wife only cost fifteen hundred and just turned twenty this year! You brought back an old woman; are you mental? Or do you prefer older women?"
The crowd burst into laughter.
Someone said, "Perhaps the woman looks old, but her flesh is tender!"
A skinny man with a mustache laughed: "Come on, isn’t having a woman good enough? She cost two thousand yuan; you should cherish her—maybe in a few years, you can have a chubby son!"
These two were even angrier upon hearing this. Were they the type to take anything in their hunger? Is any woman good enough? One that old could bear children? Bah! They cursed and swore the whole way, wishing they could kill those Zhao Family bastards!
