Yang Hongying wiped her tears and said, "Dad, she didn’t say anything. My mother-inw was just chatting with me."
But how could Gu Zishan believe that? He started scolding again: "Don’t be too harsh. She’s pregnant now, how can you treat her like that? If it were your own daughter and she was being scolded all the time for no reason by her inws, how would you feel?"
Wang Guihua was beyond angry, feeling both wronged and saddened. Her anger and frustration were overwhelming, and just as she wanted to exin, a cold sensation swept over her body. Everything went ck and she fainted.
Yang Hongying quickly went to support Wang Guihua, but suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach, triggered fetal movements, and copsed on the ground. The house fell into utter chaos, and both women were rushed to the hospital.
Sun Chan asked, "Are they all right?"
"They’re fine, they’ve alreadye home to rest. Now each of them is in a separate room with a wet towel over their forehead. I’m quite helpless. My mom heard that my wife had a stomach ache, and started groaning, and hasn’t stopped since."
Sun Chan wanted tough but couldn’t, so she offered a fewforting words: "Should I go and take care of him?"
"No! We’re already taking care of the two of them. Who could have guessed my grandpa found out we were making dumplings at home and came over with some oldrades? Now they’re at home waiting to eat! But you know how clumsy my dad and I are, and the housekeeper happened to take a day off today. What should we do..."
It finally dawned on Sun Chan that she wasn’t being asked to care for the patients, but to make dumplings. What a blessing! She wouldn’t have to face Wang Guihua, which was quite a relief.
She let out a sigh of relief: "No problem. I’ll help you. Don’t worry, how many guests are there?"
"In total four, including my dad and me, six men, two women. Oh, if the dumplings aren’t enough, my wife and I can have dinner at home. These guys have a hefty appetite. I’m guessing we need at least two hundred dumplings? I’m really upset about this." Gu Juntao was utterly disheartened. It was all because of his own mother causing trouble with the dumplings. A perfectly good rest day was ruined!
"As long as we have enough dough, it’ll be fine. Don’t worry," Sun Chan said with a smile. "I can wrap dumplings quickly."
"Luckily, the filling is ready-made. They’ve already prepared it." Initially, Gu Zishan asked Gu Juntao to tell the neighbors and ask for their help, but Gu Juntao was too embarrassed. How could he say that my wife and my own mother both fainted, could you make a meal for our family? How humiliating!
He had to turn to Sun Chan for help.
Sun Chan and Gu Juntao returned to thepound together, and as they entered, they indeed saw several old men intensely discussing something, presumably military policies or something simr. The old men clearly didn’t know that anything had happened at home.
"When are we eating? My old fellows are starving! Your mom and your wife, what’s up with them? They’re both lying over there."
Sun Chanughed and said, "It’sing! Dinner will be ready soon. Auntie and my sister-inw have prepared the dumpling filling, the rest is up to me." She greeted the elderly gentlemen and headed to the kitchen. She was getting really anxious.
Gu Juntao rolled up his sleeves: "Sister-inw, what should I do?"
"Can you roll out the dough?"
"Not really, I’m slow at it, but I can wrap them."
Sun Chan nodded, washed her hands, and picked up a rolling pin: "Okay, I’ll do it. Let’s work together."
"Alright!"
Sun Chan began rolling out dumpling wrappers swiftly. Her hands moved quickly, and Gu Juntao watched as the dumpling wrappers seemed to fly out one by one.
Gu Juntao started wrapping them, and shortly, Gu Zishan also joined to help. He was both angry and helpless, all because of that troublemaking wife.
With Sun Chan rolling out the wrappers, she could easily supply the two men. They managed to prepare two hundred dumplings and started wrapping them together.
"This should do it. Shall we cook a batch first to eat?" Gu Zishan suggested.
"Alright."
While heating it up, they realized that the water temperature wasn’t rising. Sun Chan peeped underneath and eximed in surprise, "Why is there no gas fire? I clearly turned it on!"
"What?" Gu Juntao hurried to check, and the igniter wouldn’t light up. It turned out they had run out of gas.
Gu Zishan nearly fainted upon hearing this. What a situation!
Outside, Gu Dongfang kept urging; "What’s going on? Isn’t it ready yet? We’re starving!"
Another old man chuckled: "No rush! Let’s take it easy and let them cook slowly."
Gu Zishan shouted: "Just a little longer! It’ll be ready soon!"
Gu Juntao pondered borrowing a me from the neighbors to cook the dumplings.
Sun Chan said, "Isn’t that too embarrassing? Do we have an electric cooking pot at home? Let’s use electricity and forget about the gas for now!"
"We have one! Yes!" Gu Juntao turned to fetch the electric pot, which was given by his workce and had never been used.
As he turned around to grab it, he identally bumped into his father, nearly sending them both to the floor, but Sun Chan quickly caught them.
Gu Zishan, frustrated, kicked his son: "Can’t you stop being so reckless while working?"
Feeling wronged, Gu Juntao dared not say anything and simply went on, mentally grumbling that it was actually his father messing about like a headless fly.
Gu Juntao used electricity to boil the water for the dumplings, while Gu Zishan paced back and forth, seemingly aimless.
Sun Chan suggested, "Why don’t you peel the garlic, uncle?"
"Alright! I’ll do that." He sat there peeling garlic.
Sun Chan thought that just eating dumplings wasn’t enough. So, she briefly mixed cabbage and cucumbers with some vermicelli to make a cold dish, then quickly whipped up some stir-fried shredded potatoes. She also brought a bag of sweet and sour pork with her, which happened to fit the menu perfectly.
Once the dumplings were cooked, paired with these dishes, it was indeed a bountiful spread.
The old men kept praising: "It was worth waiting this long! It’s so delicious! Your eldest daughter-inw is truly remarkable!"
Gu Dongfangughed and added, "Indeed, she’s good-looking and smart, I think she’s great."
Gu Zishan also chuckled: "Exactly, both she and the second daughter-inw are excellent. Today, Sun Chan really worked hard."
Sun Chan felt a bit shy: "The dumpling fillings were prepared by Auntie, I just did some odd jobs. I don’t deserve the credit."
"To have done all this in such a short time is already impressive." Gu Zishan smiled.
Since the arguments with his wife, he realized Sun Chan was quite nice, smart, and pretty, plus she’s good at housework. If it were someone like his son’s wife with a more prestigious family, they wouldn’t be able to live like this.
Even with the once highly regarded Bai Fann, he now found her unsuitable too.
Though pregnant and somewhat more obedient now, she still caused plenty of trouble at home. Luckily, Father Wang and Mrs. Wang were quite patient, constantly putting up with everything without daring to say too much.
