A sudden downpour forced a plane to an unexpected stop in the city of New York, casting a heavy weight on the atmosphere in the cabin where even a pin drop could be heard.

Sitting on the couch was Lucas Marson, his face stern and his presence commanding, like a statue.

"What’s the status at the hospital?"

The deep, magnetic sound of his voice seemed especially ominous in the silence.

Although he only slightly moved his lips, anyone in the quiet private cabin could hear him loud and clear.

"Mr. Marson, I just spoke with the lead surgeon.

The situation is not very optimistic.

Grandpa wants to see you as soon as possible."

The assistant answered nervously, glancing at the phone in his hand with a serious look on his face.

Everybody knew about the CEO’s temper.

At this point, it was wiser to say nothing for fear of losing their jobs by crossed words.

"Get in touch with the airline and meteorological agency.

Find out when we can take off.

If need be, I’ll drive at this point but we must reach New York by midnight, or you’re all fired!"

His words were as ruthless as a ticking bomb, exploding in the silent cabin!

Lucas maintained a stiff expression, with his fierce brows arching like mountains, enough to send chills down anyone’s spine.

Hearing these, everyone around became even more apprehensive.

There were three hours left.

If one were to drive as fast as a plane, it might be possible to get to the First Hospital of New York City by midnight.

Though, with the pouring rain, no matter how fast a car could be, it still couldn’t match up to a plane.

Who would dare risk their lives over this joke! One minute later.

The assistant standing nearby said with a pale face, "Mr. Lucas, we have already contacted the meteorological bureau and the airline.

Given the current weather, the flight can only continue at dawn tomorrow.

Rest assured, I have just contacted the best driver, aiming to reach the hospital before midnight."

The assistant then took out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped the cold sweat off his face.

Despite the unease in his heart, even his lips were pale, but the words he spoke were very strong.

Those who have been with Lucas for many years knew his character.

He despised people who were flustered.

Even if there was a big event, if one could not keep a poker face, they had to speak steadily and powerfully.

Three seconds later.

Lucas stepped off the private plane in a white shirt and black trousers, three or four assistants held umbrellas around him, afraid that the rain would wet his clothes and hair.

The car sped along the freeway, and because of the heavy rain, the other cars were driving cautiously.

Only one extended Rolls-Royce was racing in the torrential rain.

The black body of the car somehow instilled an inexplicable sense of fear.

The rain was smashing against the car window like bombs being thrown around.

In the back seat of the car, Lucas sat rigidly without moving.

His black hair was combed neatly, and his slight nod made it impossible for one to see the expression on his face.

At 11:58 and 46 seconds, the car gracefully and smoothly came to a halt at the hospital entrance.

The car door opened, Lucas stepped out, with the assistant holding an umbrella quickly falling into step at his side.

The three bodyguards, drenched in rain followed directly behind him, keeping a hawk-eye on everyone around.

Because the man beside them was the most valuable man in the whole City.

The door of the ward was pushed open, a strong smell of disinfectant came rushing to the nose.

Lucas couldn’t help but furrow his brows, his burning gaze was fixed upon the white-haired old man lying on the bed.

"Grandfather."

His voice was resounding and powerful, yet as heavy as steel that weighed a thousand pounds.

The doctor and the nurse inside the ward had all gone out before he came in.

Only grandpa lying on the bed, receiving oxygen from the tank, and a pale, frail girl sitting by the bed were left behind.

Grandpa removed his oxygen mask, his pale face gaining a hint of color only after seeing him.

His trembling hand grabbed his arm, and in a weak voice, said softly, "Marson, you’re finally here.

I can die without regret now that I’ve seen you one last time.

This is Beauty, she’s an unfortunate child, having been alone and dependent on me.

I’m leaving her in your care from today onwards, you are her guardian now.

Treat her just as well as you treat Favor."

He then placed Beauty’s hand into the cold palm of Lucas.

Both of them looked at each other, clearly taken aback for a moment.

However, Lucas recovered after only a second and said lightly, "Don’t worry, Grandpa.

I’ll take care of her."

Beauty widened her almond-like eyes at Lucas.

She looked both shocked and a bit frightened, but her face remained unchanged.

Grandpa looked at Beauty with endless affection, "Beauty, this is my grandson Lucas Marson.

You can call him Brother!"

"Brother?

Shouldn’t I call him Uncle Marson or Daddy Marson?"

Beauty looked closely at Lucas, her grape-like eyes roaming over him.

Though she often saw handsome American movie stars on TV, none were as handsome or charming as the man standing before her.

Even with no expression on his face, his mere presence was enough to drive countless girls crazy.

This ’uncle’ was way too good-looking!

Grandpa laughed and his facial wrinkles bunched up together.

He took out an adoption contract from the cabinet.

He raised his eyelids weakly and said, "Marson is ten years older than you.

Since you’ve just turned 18, calling him ’Uncle’ is fine too."

But calling Daddy will somehow make him look too old.

It was clear that the man standing next to her froze the moment he heard it.

Over the years, there had never been a girl who called him uncle or Daddy.

The little girl in front of him now surprisingly looked just like a boy.

Her eyes were dark and shining, and her eyelashes were thick as if they were made up of bananas.

Aside from stubbornness, there were no other expressions on her small, palm-sized face.

Her black, short hair softly clings to her temples and a duckbill cap covered her entire face.

Her frame was feeble.

If it weren’t for that slight curve that was prominent on her front, he would have thought that she was a pretty-faced boy.

Lucas’s resplendent and powerful pen danced over the adoption papers, and the adoption documents were quickly signed.

The end date was when Beauty turned twenty-two.

Until then, he would be her guardian and she must obey his instructions.

Looking at the crisp and strict guardian in front of her, Beauty hesitated for a moment, but eventually obediently signed the adoption agreement.

Growing up, she was always considered a jinx by others, saying she caused her dad’s death at a young age, and she didn’t even know what her mother looked like.

From the moment she was born, she was always abandoned, and at the same time taken care of by others.

For her, parting has become a norm.

So much so that during those painful moments, not a single tear rolled down from her resilient eyes.

"I have notified your father and Favour.

I’m not sure when they can rush back from M country.

I’m also uncertain whether this old body of mine can last until they return."

Grandpa spoke, his eyelids felt unbelievably heavy, as if they were glued down, and he couldn’t lift them no matter how hard he tried.

"Grandpa, don’t fall asleep yet!

Open your eyes and have a chat with Beauty.

Soon, all your loved ones will come to see you!"

Overwhelmed with emotion, Beauty’s voice trembled violently.

Her face was pale as a sheet, and her eyes were pink with unshed tears.

Standing by her side, Lucas grasped grandpa’s hand tightly, his arm shaking violently.

His face was icy cold, his eyes like drawn squares staring straight ahead, his thin lips tightly pressed together.

"Grandpa!"

Suddenly, the EKG monitor beside them fell silent, no longer showing any signs of life.

Grandpa closed his eyes peacefully, gently placing Beauty hand onto the back of Lucas’s hand.
