Chapter 64: A deal for her freedom
CHAPTER 64: A DEAL FOR HER FREEDOM
When Beauty received her acceptance letter from Oxford University, she was in the photography studio taking pictures.
Lucas was indeed a good business talent.
Even though she hadn’t seen him in a while, his shadow still hung over her everyday work and life.
Finally enjoying a pleasant holiday, already having planned to go on an overseas vacation with Hannah, she received a call from some freak as soon as she got off the plane, asking her to return to the country to take promotional photos for a product.
She was so angry that she nearly exploded on the spot.
Yet, that person spoke with the same chilling and domineering tone: "Which do you think is more important, work or play?
I’ll send a private plane to pick you up immediately, you still have one day to enjoy the streets of the Champs Elysées and the churches in Finland."
Of course, Beauty’s arm could not match his leg.
Dejected, she sat on the Champs Elysées in City Carl for several hours, observing the peace pigeons and passing crowd.
She took some pictures in the lavender manor with Hannah and enjoyed the night view by the Seine for a few hours.
Then she returned to the country, desolate and gloomy. ...
"Yay! I finally got admitted!
Yay..." Beauty held the paper filled with culture and noble aroma, and firmly left a kiss on it.
Everyone else in the photography studio looked at her puzzled, until when Sarah entered and she cheerfully handed her the exquisite paper, her eyes curved into crescent moons from her wide smile.
"Not bad!
Oxford is one of the most famous schools in the City, and it’s even known as the noble school of the whole Country.
Lucas had previously mentioned sending you and Laura to this school, I didn’t expect you to work so hard!"
Sarah softly patted her shoulder and smiled, half-raising her eyebrows.
"Sarah, can I go see him now?"
The person she wanted to see the most upon receiving her acceptance letter was Lucas.
Perhaps she just wanted to prove herself. Sarah raised an eyebrow and glanced at her wristwatch, her lips twitched into a faint smile: "The meeting has ended now, you should go to his office to find him.
If it gets any later, he may have to go on a business trip to Columbia, and who knows when he will be back."
As soon as her words fell, Beauty raised her arm towards Sarah and dashed toward the CEO’s office elevator.
She had been at Maron’s for so long, and this was the first time she had ever gone to his office.
There were three assistants standing at the door who greeted her with welcoming smiles upon seeing her.
"I have some business with CEO Marson, is he busy right now?"
Beauty finished speaking and gave the assistants a sweet smile, then lowered her eyes towards her toes.
As she had just come out of the recording studio, she hadn’t even changed her clothes.
She was wearing a white gauze dress with one princess crown on her head, her lips tightly pressed.
Stepping into the CEO’s office, the interior furnishings weren’t much different from his room.
The room was black and white, understated yet luxurious.
The air-conditioning inside was very low, exacerbating her already somewhat nervous unease.
He had said that he didn’t like her looking for him in the company.
But if she didn’t find him now, she probably wouldn’t see him again until three months later.
She couldn’t wait.
"What’s the matter?"
Before entering, she was exuberant, but as soon as she stepped into this office, particularly when she saw his stoic face, all that she had meant to say suddenly vanished, leaving her speechless.
Lucas Marson icy gaze landed on her face.
After not seeing her for a long time, she seemed to have grown taller, and her hair was longer.
The chubby cheeks from before had completely become a small melon-seeded face.
With not an ounce of extra fat, his eyes lit up.
"I got into Oxford university, here’s my admission letter.
I didn’t need your connections to get into the best school in the City."
Mary said, her eyes curving slightly.
She handed the admission letter to him with both hands, so nervous that she felt even breathing was redundant.
Lucas took the crescent-moon-white paper from her, didn’t even glance at it before placing it on the table.
He then rose and walked toward her, his gaze falling on her shining eyes.
"So what? Do you want a reward from me?"
She hadn’t really considered this, after all, striving for the best university had always been her goal, not for any commendations from Lucas; she dared not even think about it.
But now that he’s mentioned it, why wouldn’t she...
"Exactly, I’m an adult now, and about to head to university, there’s something I want."
"What do you want?"
Lucas poured a cup of coffee, languidly lifted his eyelids to glance at her, completely nonchalant.
To him, even if she wanted the moon in the sky right now, he could figure out a way to get it for her.
However, knowing her, she wouldn’t be interested in such intangible things.
"All I want is freedom.
After getting into university, I don’t want to be monitored by you like in high school.
I don’t have my own social circle.
I hope to be like other people."
Lucas smirked, his eyes also showing indifference.
"Do you think I, Lucas, would be like other people?
Your identity now sets you apart from others, and university can be disorderly, how could I let you wander freely?"
It was all just an excuse, just his desire to control her.
He even used such a pretext.
Beauty turned her head away without looking at him, her face stern.
After a few seconds, she said coldly, "You’re nothing more than my legal guardian.
I’m not a prisoner of yours.
I can promise you that I won’t act recklessly at school, including skipping classes and committing other such misdemeanors. Nothing bad will happen to me.
Besides, you can check on that."
"All right.
I won’t protect you as I did in high school.
Don’t forget your promise, only if you outshine others in every aspect at school, if you are the best, you can stand next to me.
Only then you can earn the freedom you desire."
"All right!
Let’s make a deal.
You give me the freedom I desire, and I promise not to embarrass you at school."
Beauty finally cracked a smile.
For the first time, she found the white papers so adorable.
If not for Lucas being here, she would’ve been dancing with joy.
But in his presence, she always masked her emotions to prevent him from finding any weak spots to control her.
"I heard you’re going on a business trip again. When will you be back?"
Unexpectedly, she suddenly found this man in front not so terrifying or perverse.
So, Beauty.mustered the courage to look up at him and uttered faintly.
She didn’t expect that she would be interested in his itinerary or that she would show concern for him willingly.
She always considered him a freaky elder in her heart.
Taking a sip of his coffee, he savored the aroma between his teeth.
He then approached her, leaning over her from above.
"Why? Are you going to miss me?"
He chuckled.
Ugh!
Beauty took two steps back, nearly stepping on the hem of her white skirt.
Her hands were nervously intertwined.
"I was just asking casually.
If you’re not around, I’d be happier."
