A new semester at university always brings joy to some and sorrow to others. After half a year at Kelly, Su Ziceng always found herself involuntarily comparing Kelly Women’s College with Daoquan University. This might be a woman’s natural instinct, to compare all sorts of things: handbags, cosmetics, ex-boyfriends, and current boyfriends, even down to the exact number of freckles on her face.
Kelly Women’s School lacks the fashionable bustle of Daoquan University and has quite a few rigid and odd rules, but it also has its fair share of leniencies. Compared to the impersonal regular universities, Kelly Women’s School’s report cards were issued after the senior students arrived on campus.
Apart from the horseback riding class she gave up midway, Su Ziceng managed to pass all her courses without cheating, though her "satisfactory" grade in the baking class was somewhat irksome.
Hard-working students like Yan Wuxu don’t need to be told about their stellar report cards. This semester, she also smoothly received the "Wei Lei Award" from Kelly Women’s School. After deepening her ties with Su Qingzhang, Yan Wuxu started to consider herself as part of the Su Family and shared many past stories with Su Ziceng she had never mentioned before. It turns out she got her place in Kelly Women’s School through Teacher Pello’s recommendation.
"So you see, Teacher Pello is a good person," Yan Wuxu said as she and Su Ziceng made their way to the classroom for the new "Mysticism" class. Several girls passing by overheard the mention of Pello’s name, looking over with unmistakable hostility.
"This sucks, Valentine’s Day is over and there’s still so much taboo," Su Ziceng was glad she had given out her presents the night before last, though she had almost forgotten the whole process due to the excitement of being drunk, but at least the gift was delivered.
"Yesterday, Pello almost offended all the girls in the school. It’s said that he returned hundreds of Valentine’s Day gifts, even the cake that Wen Maixue baked herself," Su Ziceng didn’t often gossip with others, but she could always get some juicy news from Yan Wuxu’s mouth.
"Giving him sweets, might as well give him sweet wine," Su Ziceng opened the door to the classroom, to Feng Shui class, a new course. The door to the classroom was as strange as its contents, a push-type wooden door, and the classroom was narrow and long. Upon entering, you had to change into disposable slippers.
"This is one of the requisite courses for graduation, so we must take it seriously, and since it’s a new course, it’s quite popular." Yan Wuxu also picked up a pair of slippers and looked into the classroom.
It wasn’t snowing outside today, the sunlight reflected off the snow on the ground, making the teaching building brighter than usual. Yet inside this "Mysticism classroom," it was dim and murky. Their eyes took a moment to adjust to the crowded classroom.
The blinds were all pulled down, with light filtering through the slits. There were no desks and no teaching equipment, just a long table that accommodated four or five people standing side by side, covered with Astrology Cards, Crystal Balls, Eight Diagram Mirrors, Copper Coins, and a shiny turtle shell.
"Why does it smell like bathroom fragrance," Su Ziceng glanced past that "feudal surgery table," and saw a Brass Incense Burner in every corner of the room.
The classroom was packed with about a hundred people, everyone huddled in different corners of the room, leaving some space free. The room was dimly lit, and the windows were all tightly closed, making it hard to breathe.
"Can’t they split up the class? A hundred people sticking together like a bucket of paste," Su Ziceng muttered.
"They say the new teacher is quite an accomplished master, very hard to invite. There’s just one class per week, and all the new students, along with quite a few older ones, have chosen it," Yan Wuxu replied.
As they were talking, the door was pulled open, and a hunched figure entered. From where Su Ziceng stood, she could only see the feet. Upon closer inspection, she noticed a hole in the big toe area of the yellowish-white socks.
Almost simultaneously, the scent of feet filled the classroom. A hundred expectant faces instantly fell. Some people couldn’t stand it anymore and began lifting the blinds, making a small opening by the windows.
After all, Kelly Women’s School is Kelly Women’s School; all the girls uphold the strong principle of following the rules and maintaining poise; nobody made a dash for the door.
