CHAPTER 444: CHAPTER 185: MIDNIGHT CALL (PART 3)
This call lasted from around 2 a.m. all the way to the early hours, around 6 a.m., as Su Ziceng and Lin Ying discussed nearly two years’ worth of events thoroughly.
On one hand, Su Ziceng couldn’t help but express amazement at Lin Ying’s rise to fame during London Fashion Week, and on the other, Lin Ying was full of admiration upon learning that Su Ziceng had considered joining ZARA after working there.
"You’re practically the queen of part-timers, you nearly succeeded in joining them," Lin Ying concluded at last, to which Su Ziceng seemed even more fanatical.
"We’ll sort out the follow-up matters after you arrive in Mo City," Su Ziceng only then noticed that it had grown light outside and yelped in surprise.
"Though it’s a pity you gave up on ZARA, it’s fine. Recently, I heard about something from industry insiders that you might be interested in. I’ll tell you about it once I get more details, maybe there’s a chance for us to collaborate." Lin Ying needed to start her work too; she had spent her whole afternoon in this call with Su Ziceng.
After hanging up, Su Ziceng remained in bed a little longer, and almost around seven, she ran to wash up with red-rimmed eyes.
As she entered the finance department, everyone there treated her with an unusual level of caution. The senior secretary named Luna who had clashed with Su Ziceng the previous day had already asked to be transferred to another department downstairs.
Next to Pello’s office, the storeroom that was usually piled with miscellaneous items had been cleared out within a day, temporarily converted into Su Ziceng’s office. Inside were a brand-new desk and chair, along with a shiny new computer.
Pello had arrived earlier than Su Ziceng, but he wasn’t in his office at the moment.
Once office hours began, the entire finance department was absorbed in a flurry of activity. The initiation of the "Golden Coast" project had greatly increased the work for the finance department; apart from Su Ziceng, everyone’s desk was buried under a stack of reports and data awaiting analysis.
Su Ziceng sat in her office, staring at the bouquet of red roses in front of her for a good half hour, before becoming restless.
"Is there any work that requires my assistance?" Su Ziceng approached an older accountant who looked rather senior, busy tapping away at his computer—it looked like he could use her help.
"No need, Manager Su," the old accountant dropped the word ’Assistant’, huddling over his pile of materials like a hen protecting her chicks.
After making a round, the response from everyone was more or less the same. The finance department, usually a relaxed environment, had suddenly turned into an area of high tension.
"Then you tell me, what should I do?" Su Ziceng asked, frustrated, with no sign of Pello anywhere.
"You can help by signing some documents," Pello’s secretary who was responsible for collating his files chimed in—signing documents probably wouldn’t cause any major trouble.
"Signing documents?" Su Ziceng followed the secretary’s direction, looking over to the new pile of files on Pello’s desk.
"Yes, they’re all insignificant documents, Manager Su can certainly help divide Pello’s workload." The secretary nudged Su Ziceng into Pello’s office.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. All this talk of internships and grassroots experience was a façade. The only thing that Miss Su Ziceng needed to learn was to practice making her signature as aesthetically pleasing as possible on the documents.
Pello’s office was very neat. Although there were many files that came and went each day, he would personally sort them every morning, categorizing all files into four main types based on urgency and importance.
Clear instructions were marked on each category of files.
Looking at Pello’s concise and forceful handwriting, Su Ziceng smiled, feeling a sense of pride through association.
She opened one of the documents and right as she did, an item fell out. A sapphire blue pen, the diamond at its tip sparkled brilliantly—Blue Love.
Su Ziceng hadn’t expected to encounter Blue Love here of all places. Just as she was about to pick it up, she saw the document that the pen had been lodged in, which read: "Instructions regarding the purchase of old high-pressure water pumps."
"Old high-pressure water pumps?" Su Ziceng didn’t understand why the Su Family would want to buy old water pumps.
The office door opened, and Pello entered, fatigue etched on his face from staying up all night. And now, the woman he had been watching all night was standing right in front of his desk, with his accidentally left behind "Blue Love" in her hand. (To be continued.
