"Looks like we have to take another route," the driver sighed, "So young, and such a misfortune."

Just as the car was about to turn around, Gu Ningyue suddenly said, "No need. Just stop here!"

The driver was stunned, thinking she might be dazed from sleep, "Miss, it’s quite a distance to the East District from here!"

Gu Ningyue shook her head, "Yeah, I know. Please stop the car!"

Upon hearing her, the driver had no choice but to pull over. Gu Ningyue settled the bill and walked toward the site of the accident.

The driver watched her somewhat surprised. Who knew this young lady had such a penchant for curiosity, wanting to go even closer!

Gu Ningyue made her way through the crowd, feeling the amulet on her neck growing hotter.

Even through her clothes, she started to feel pain.

"That young man was truly unfortunate, to be hit like this on his way home from school. Sigh!"

"How many years do you get for drunk driving? This driver looks quite young too."

When the traffic police from nearby arrived, they quickly verified the identity of the deceased and arrested the still disoriented driver.

Gu Ningyue heard a policeman say when he handcuffed the driver out of the car, "Zhang Zhiyao, it’s you again!"

Gu Ningyue silently noted this name in her heart as she remained at the scene even after the deceased’s mother rushed to the location.

The deceased’s mother was well-dressed, wearing a rare pearl necklace from the East China Sea, with a pigeon blood red gemstone at the center.

Judging by her appearance, their family seemed quite affluent.

From the mother’s cries, Gu Ningyue learned that the deceased boy was named Lin Mingyuan, and was in his second year of high school.

Strangely, Gu Ningyue stood at the spot for a long time but didn’t see Lin Mingyuan’s father appear.

Lin Mingyuan, this name sounded somewhat familiar, as if she had heard it somewhere before.

She waited until the crowd dispersed, Lin Mingyuan’s mother was pulled away, and Lin Mingyuan was placed onto the belated ambulance, then Gu Ningyue turned to leave.

Taking another cab, she headed to Lin Ruixian’s shop. When she arrived ten minutes later, Gu Ningyue noticed the sign outside had been properly installed.

Without the swirling dust and piercing noise, the place suddenly seemed quite serene.

Gu Ningyue pushed the door open and entered. Inside, construction was still ongoing, and a server at the counter promptly approached her as she arrived, "Hello, you’re here again!"

Gu Ningyue nodded and casually remarked, "Yeah! You’re still not finished with the renovations huh!"

"Yes!" The server replied apologetically, "But unfortunately, the chef isn’t here today, and our boss is also absent, so we cannot commence business."

Gu Ningyue glanced around, noticing the amulet on her neck was no longer scalding.

"I see! Is your boss out for a meal? I can wait."

Upon hearing Gu Ningyue say this, the server deferred somewhat hesitantly, "Our boss may not return for quite a while. Perhaps you could come back another day? If you’re keen to eat, you could leave a number and I’ll call you when our boss is available?"

After all, since they hadn’t opened yet, they had the right to decline her request.

This level of service attitude was indeed commendable, undoubtedly an instruction from Lin Ruixian.

Gu Ningyue left a phone number, grinning at the server as she commented, "Do you regularly oversee the renovations here? Seems like your boss values you highly!"

The server quickly shook his head, "No, no. Our boss just received a sudden call and left in a hurry. He usually stays here supervising."

Gu Ningyue calmly noted, "Then it must’ve been urgent, seems like I really can’t have a meal today!"

The server stored the phone number, smiling as he said, "It’s okay, we’ll be open soon and welcome you anytime for tasting."

Gu Ningyue nodded as she reached the door, suddenly turning back to remind, "Make sure to let me know when your boss is back! I really enjoy his culinary skills!"

The server said, "Rest assured, we’ll definitely do that."

After Gu Ningyue left, the server pondered looking at the workers engaged in renovation, a doubt suddenly crossed his mind: "Hold on, how did she know the last dish was prepared by our boss?"

He distinctly remembered he hadn’t mentioned anything at all.

Having exited Lin Ruixian’s Japanese restaurant, Gu Ningyue wandered aimlessly along the street.

The amulet Mr. Chen just gifted her seemed off, and it’s likely related to Zhang Zhiyao and Lin Mingyuan.

Only, did these two have any relation to her?

She probed through the memories of her former self but found no trace.

Under the scorching sun, doubts stacked like layers in Gu Ningyue’s mind, leaving her breathless.

Finding respite under a tree’s shade, Gu Ningyue sat on a bench lost in thought.

After an undefined time, Gu Ningyue suddenly heard a familiar voice beside her: "Sis, I’ve told you, these things are beyond me. Go talk to my elder brother! He handles these matters adeptly! After all, what you’re facing is your own doing; what can I do now?...Alright, I’ve other matters to attend to, I’ll hang up first!"

Passing by her, Lin Ruixian halted.

Here was that young lady again, the one wounded yet frequenting his shop.

Really, there seemed to be a connection between them!

"Hi!" Gu Ningyue raised her head, greeting first, "Fancy meeting you here! I just visited your shop, you weren’t there..."

Lin Ruixian glanced toward his shop, then turned and looked down at Gu Ningyue sitting on the bench, "You just left my shop?"

Gu Ningyue nodded, "The server said they couldn’t serve today, I left my number and headed out. Never expected to bump into you here!"

Under the sunlight, Lin Ruixian’s alluring eyes seemed like tempting gemstones. He gazed into her eyes and asked, "Why don’t you head home then? On such hot days, be cautious of heatstroke."

Gu Ningyue aware of his capabilities, subtly avoiding his gaze, "Feeling a bit dizzy, just resting here for a while."

Lin Ruixian didn’t mind, smiled and asked, "Do you still want sushi? If you’re up for it, I could head back and prepare some for you. Especially since you’re here despite being injured."

Gu Ningyue responded joyfully, "Really? That’d be great."

At least her injury left a memorable impression on Lin Ruixian.

Lin Ruixian acknowledged, "Let’s go!"

As Gu Ningyue stood, a sudden dizziness overcame her, causing her to sit back down.

Lin Ruixian crossed his arms, standing still, "Feeling overheated?"

Gu Ningyue shook her head, "Probably just from sitting for too long."

When she stood again, Gu Ningyue’s expression returned to normal as she walked over to Lin Ruixian.

Lin Ruixian remained silent, his gaze, however, fell upon Gu Ningyue’s clenched hands.

This girl, she seemed rather interesting.
