CHAPTER 55: CHAPTER 55: ANY BAD BLOOD?

In the evening, Shen Hanyin brought flowers and fruit to the hospital room.

They were Blue Enchantresses, the original owner’s favorite flowers. Their allure and charm were perfectly highlighted by the night.

Gu Ningyue looked at the flowers; this was probably the only thing she and the original owner both liked: "They’re beautiful, thank you!"

Ling Tianyou found an excuse to step out, letting the two girls have more freedom.

"Master Ling treats you well!" Shen Hanyin glanced at the slowly closing door, then turned to Gu Ningyue with a teasing look, "When are you getting your marriage license?"

"It’s not that fast! There’s still a bunch of things to deal with." Gu Ningyue’s gaze fell on her injured arm: "Besides, I can’t attend a wedding like this!"

"True! But building a relationship first isn’t bad! Imagine if problems arise after marriage, how heartbreaking it would be."

In wealthy families, such things are common; marriages that appear glamorous on the surface are often rotten inside.

While the two continued chatting, Shen Hanyin took a phone call, sounding a bit shy: "No worries, my leg healed long ago. Got it, I’m at the hospital; we’ll talk later!"

After hanging up, she met Gu Ningyue’s playful grin: "Someone special?"

"No, it’s just that I was injured before so my dad found me a private doctor." Shen Hanyin’s face involuntarily reddened, her voice as soft as spring water: "He’s a very genteel person, looks exactly my type, and over time we became friends."

Shen Hanyin wasn’t someone who easily fell for others; many attractive men had tried but failed. Gu Ningyue was curious about what this person looked like: "Got a photo?"

Shen Hanyin swiped open her photo album: "Here, what do you think?"

In the photo, a scholarly looking young man with silver-framed glasses was sitting on the grass.

He held a drink in his right hand and his bright smile was captivating.

Though he wasn’t as immediately mesmerizing as Ling Tianyou, he was indeed quite noticeable in a crowd.

It went without saying, he likely had many admirers.

"He’s quite handsome." Gu Ningyue asked, "What’s his name?"

"Ji Zhiye, sounds artistic, right?" Shen Hanyin laughed foolishly, clearly having a soft spot for this private doctor: "I’ve been to his clinic and he’s so patient with patients!"

Gu Ningyue didn’t pay much attention to names, just smiled at this: "Doctors are always patient with patients! Didn’t you always say each profession has its own rules and not to overly judge one person by how they treat another? Have you forgotten?"

At the time, the original owner was utterly devoted to Ye Mingchen, blindly seeing no faults in him.

Despite Shen Hanyin’s fruitless persuasion, she left this advice and never brought it up again.

Now, it was Shen Hanyin’s turn to fall deep.

"True, but Zhiye is really different." Shen Hanyin put down her phone, looking at Gu Ningyue lying in bed: "Not many doctors would cover a patient’s surgery costs, but he did. Though, that little boy was quite pitiful."

He was so young, with a father unwilling to cover medical expenses and only a mother with him, looking utterly wretched.

Gu Ningyue, having seen so many unpleasant things in her previous life, was somewhat surprised to hear this from Shen Hanyin: "If that’s true, he’s really a good person!"

Shen Hanyin nodded, "Yes! He can cook too, better than my family’s chef."

Gu Ningyue kept a calm expression, it seems her friend had truly fallen for him.

"If there’s a chance, I must meet him.

Shen Hanyin said, "Of course, he’s really nice."

As they chatted, Gu Ningyue listened to how Ji Zhiye had been caring for Shen Hanyin daily.

You had to admit, he was certainly charming!

Clearly experienced in romantic matters, he knew exactly how to captivate someone like Shen Hanyin, a pampered lady.

Gu Ningyue looked at Shen Hanyin: "I seriously doubt whether you came to see me or just to flaunt your happiness? I’m full, thanks."

Shen Hanyin laughed, "Of course, I’m here to see you! Take care. I’ll be going now, or President Ling out there will turn into a statue."

Gu Ningyue was taken aback: "What?"

Shen Hanyin pointed outside: "Didn’t you notice? Since I arrived, there haven’t been any footsteps in the corridor?"

Only then did Gu Ningyue realize, indeed! This floor housed only her, and after Ling Tianyou left, the hallway had been completely silent.

"Alright, I’m heading out. Goodbye, my BABY!"

Sure enough, as soon as Shen Hanyin exited the room, she saw Ling Tianyou leaning against the wall, looking at his phone: "Apologies for disturbing, President Ling!"

Ling Tianyou raised his head, his face as indifferent as always: "No need for apologies, Miss Shen!"

Reopening the door, Gu Ningyue asked Ling Tianyou: "You really stood outside this whole time? Aren’t you tired?"

Shen Hanyin had come at eight, and it was now nine-thirty.

He’d been standing outside the whole time, and a hint of distress surfaced in Gu Ningyue’s heart.

"Not bad!" Ling Tianyou pulled out a chair and sat down, "The diamond bracelet your mother left was found!"

His assistant had just messaged him; after many days, he finally found the buyer of that diamond bracelet.

Gu Ningyue suddenly remembered, oh dear, how could she have forgotten such an important thing?

Indeed, she had been too busy lately!

"Where is it?" Gu Ningyue was genuinely thankful to Ling Tianyou: "Must have been a lot of work, right?"

Even she had forgotten about it, yet Ling Tianyou still cared, making her feel a bit guilty towards the original owner!

"Not too much!" Ling Tianyou said, "But we can’t retrieve it right now. The person who sold your mother’s diamond bracelet isn’t in City A currently. We’ll have to wait until she returns next month to get it."

Gu Ningyue smiled, "No problem, as long as we know who has it! Who bought it? That diamond bracelet is worth at least three million."

Very few in City A could afford such a bracelet.

"Your brother must have been completely crazy with gambling, selling that bracelet for just half a million." Ling Tianyou was clearly disdainful of Gu Heng’s actions: "Do you remember Lu Qingqing?"

Gu Ningyue thought for a moment, recalling someone in the original owner’s memory: "A second-generation official, loves traveling, Gu Heng’s poker friend."

"Yes, that’s her," Ling Tianyou confirmed. "She knows the diamond bracelet is yours but doesn’t intend to return it. Do you have any grudges with her?"

Gu Ningyue sighed, "Previously, Gu Wanwan dragged me out to gatherings, and Lu Qingqing targeted her. As someone ’mentally unstable’, it was naturally easier for me to act."

In hindsight, the original owner’s intelligence was indeed worrying.

It seemed the original owner’s foolish actions were ones she herself had to make up for.
