Chapter 123 Can I See Your ID?
CHAPTER 123: CHAPTER 123 CAN I SEE YOUR ID?
Huo Jingrui quickened his steps, waiting outside the gate of Yunyi’s small courtyard, solely to watch the little girl approach.
As Yunyi opened the gate, he followed her in. "Where should I put the carrying basket?" he asked.
Yunyi pointed to the stone platform in the courtyard. "Just put it there."
Huo Jingrui set down the carrying basket and went straight to Yunyi. "You’ve been into the deep mountains?" It was not a question, but a statement.
Yunyi didn’t hide anything and asked directly, "May I see your ID?" Some matters were better handled with caution.
Since there were military personnel here, she wouldn’t need to go to the county to report to public security. Besides, though she couldn’t explain why, she felt the man in front of her was very trustworthy.
Huo Jingrui hadn’t expected Yunyi to make such a request. After a moment of stunned silence, he took his military ID from his jacket pocket.
Yunyi reached for it. The moment she opened it and saw the name, she froze.
She stared at the name for a long time, trying hard to suppress the excitement in her heart, then slowly looked up. "Your name is Jingrui?"
Huo Jingrui sensed the shift in her emotions and frowned slightly. "Yes. Is there a problem?"
Yunyi stared at the unfamiliar face before her without blinking. "Have you ever heard of Longteng and Bei Mo?"
Huo Jingrui didn’t understand what the little girl was saying, his expression puzzled as he shook his head. "I haven’t heard of them. Are you looking for someone?"
Yunyi was very disappointed by his answer. Shaking her head then nodding, she replied, "Sort of."
She glanced at his ID again. Perhaps it was just a common name. How could her Jingrui not remember her, or Longteng and Bei Mo?
Collecting herself, she carefully reviewed his information before returning the ID. Taking a deep breath, she asked, "Can I trust you?"
Just then, Liu Chenglin arrived outside the gate and began to stand guard.
Huo Jingrui spoke very seriously. "Yes. Did you discover something on the mountain?"
Liu Chenglin glanced into the courtyard. Had this Chu Zhiqing really ignored the advice and gone into the deep mountains?
Seeing Liu Chenglin standing guard outside, Yunyi understood. They must have guessed something.
Still, for safety’s sake, she gestured for Huo Jingrui to lower his head.
Then, she whispered in his ear, "Today in the mountains, I encountered people speaking Japanese. While I was tracking them, I accidentally fell into a cave. It was quite horrifying inside, with numerous skeletons. I mustered my courage and walked around; it seemed like no one had been there for a long time."
Upon hearing her words, Huo Jingrui’s expression shifted from concern to shock. Once he processed it, his first instinct was to look Yunyi up and down. "Are you hurt anywhere?"
Yunyi waved her hand. "No, I’m fine. Thankfully, the entrance was completely covered by vines, so I only got a few scratches. They cushioned my fall before I landed inside the cave. I was also lucky to land right in the middle of the cave entrance. If I’d been closer to the edge, I might not have been so fortunate when I fell; the cave walls were all jagged rock."
Seeing she was truly unharmed, he finally relaxed.
Yunyi recounted in detail what she had found in the cave to Huo Jingrui. "When the time comes, I can guide you, but I don’t want outsiders to know that this matter involves me."
Huo Jingrui naturally understood her meaning and nodded. "Don’t worry. We will ensure your safety, and you won’t miss out on any of the credit due to you."
