Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant
Chapter 440: Thinking of Handing Over One’s Possessions
CHAPTER 440: CHAPTER 440: THINKING OF HANDING OVER ONE’S POSSESSIONS
Two hours later, the alarm clock rang on time.
Yunyi was one step ahead of Huo Jingrui to the kitchen. She cheated a bit by taking out a pot of homemade Eight-Treasure Porridge she had previously prepared and stored in her spatial warehouse.
She added water, lit the fire, placed it on the steamer, and also put two boiled eggs and ten mixed-flour buns in to steam together.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to bring out some stewed dishes. However, Huo Jingrui had cooked in the kitchen yesterday. If there had been any meat dishes, he would likely have smelled them by now.
When Huo Jingrui came over, Yunyi was already cutting potatoes. "What are you busy with?" he asked.
Yunyi replied, "We have some mixed-flour buns left from before. I’ll just whip up a quick dish. Have some before you leave. You’re probably going to be busy today, and it’s better to work on a full stomach."
She said that, but she was actually worried that once he left the courtyard, he wouldn’t have time to eat again.
Huo Jingrui glanced at his watch. "No need. It’s almost time to gather."
Yunyi had no choice but to stop what she was doing. "Alright, then I won’t cook. I’ll just bring over some of the pickles and preserved vegetables we made earlier. Just have a quick bite with them; who knows how long you’ll be busy once you leave."
Feeling warmed by Yunyi’s words, Huo Jingrui said, "Okay, I’ll go wash my face."
He had been busy all night and hadn’t had a chance to clean up. He was grateful Yunyi didn’t mind his appearance.
While Huo Jingrui went to tidy up, Yunyi quickly prepared some pickles and preserved vegetables.
By the time Huo Jingrui came out, Yunyi was ready and pointed to the items on the stove. "Hurry, take this food and go eat. Don’t wait for me; I’ll get you some porridge."
He had only nibbled a little that morning and was actually quite hungry now. Thinking of the situation he was about to face, he knew Yunyi was right. "Then, thank you, Yiyi."
He didn’t stand on ceremony, wolfing down the hot buns with the pickles and preserved vegetables. He ate so quickly that he barely lifted his head, anxious to fill up and head out.
Yunyi peeled the two eggs, placed them in a small bowl, then ladled out a large bowl of porridge and brought them into the room. "Eat slowly. Eating too fast is bad for your stomach."
Huo Jingrui swallowed the bun in his mouth. "I’ll be more careful in the future."
His words implied that for today, he’d make an exception.
Yunyi placed the porridge in front of him. "Have some porridge."
She pushed the small bowl with the eggs closer to him. "Eat both of these eggs. Consider it a way to regain some strength."
Huo Jingrui didn’t refuse. He knew this young woman didn’t lack these things, and there was no need to be overly polite with his own partner. Once he sorted out the current business, he planned to hand over all his assets to her, to spend as she pleased.
Yunyi had no idea that during this single meal, Huo Jingrui had already thought of handing over all his possessions.
Between bites, he looked up at Yunyi. "Why aren’t you eating?"
Yunyi smiled faintly. "Look at the time. I’ll eat at noon. Don’t worry about me; you eat."
Hearing this, his heart filled with even more joy. He knew his girl was just looking out for him.
He polished off six buns and ate more than half of Yunyi’s prepared pickles, though he didn’t touch much of the preserved vegetables. It wasn’t that he disliked the preserved vegetables; they were just too salty, and he worried about getting thirsty later while busy.
This led Yunyi, watching from the side, to mistakenly believe he preferred the pickles. Could his tastes have changed? she wondered.
He finished the large bowl of porridge with the remaining pickles, then put down his bowl. "Now, I’m really full."
He was about to clear away the dishes when Yunyi stopped him. "That’s enough. Don’t bother with these. You better hurry, or you’ll be late."
