CHAPTER 543: CHAPTER 543: OR SHOULD I COME TO FIND YOU?
Victor Bennett looked at the person in his arms, looking troubled.
"Phoebe, those people online are basically just trying to scare you. How could they actually find out where you live? You don’t need to be afraid."
Listening to Victor, Joanna Ramsey pursed her lips and muttered quietly.
"You never know, someone like her, a mistress, must have plenty of people who wish they could beat her up."
Although she muttered softly, Victor, who was so close to her, could not possibly miss it. Instantly, with a dark face, he gave her butt a firm slap.
Joanna covered her butt, staring at him accusingly.
The slap sound puzzled Fiona Grantham, prompting her to ask, "What was that sound?"
"Nothing, nothing, Phoebe. It’s just that the thunder is a bit loud, nothing to be scared of. If you’re scared, just find some earplugs and block your ears, then turn on the light, and you’ll be okay."
"But, but I’m still scared, and after watching that horror movie just before bed, every time I close my eyes I see those terrifying scenes. Victor, I’m really so scared."
As Fiona spoke, she began to sob again.
Victor felt a bit of a headache hearing this and raised his hand to scratch his head.
"Why don’t you call your assistant to come and accompany you?" He suggested tentatively.
Fiona was silent for a few seconds on the other end, then continued, "Then, how about I come see you? I actually have something I want to discuss."
Hearing this, Victor was momentarily stunned and looked out the window.
"It’s so late, you really shouldn’t come out, and it’s raining too."
"Victor, is something happening? You just said you’d come over, didn’t you?"
Fiona asked, puzzled.
Victor had already promised to come over, and she had heard him leave the bedroom. Why suddenly wouldn’t he come?
In truth, she wasn’t really scared, but there was something she needed Victor’s help with...
Victor looked at the girl nestled in the blanket with only her small head exposed, her eyes red.
If he left, this silly girl would definitely have nightmares again.
So, he continued to comfort Fiona on the other end: "Um, it’s raining pretty hard here, driving might be inconvenient. Besides, the stuff on TV is just to scare people, it’s all fake, nothing to be afraid of."
"But..."
"How about you keep the light on, play a song to calm down, or have your assistant come over. I really can’t go out."
Fiona furrowed her eyebrows, feeling a bit puzzled in her heart.
Normally, Victor would come as soon as she called, especially when she said she was afraid—he would certainly come running immediately.
But today, he made so many excuses, making her really confused.
She understood Victor’s personality well, he wouldn’t leave her to face her fears alone.
Suddenly, a thunderclap from outside made Joanna’s face turn pale, her body trembled violently, and she forgot to scream.
That sight tightened Victor’s heart. He casually murmured something perfunctory, hung up the phone, then leaned closer to Joanna, wrapping the blanket around her more tightly.
"Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, it’s okay, it’s okay. Do you want me to go find some earplugs for you?" Victor asked urgently.
Joanna, sobbing intermittently with hiccups from crying, thought the constant thunder was quite scary, so she nodded her head.
Seeing this, Victor stood up to go back to his room to fetch them, but Joanna grabbed him suddenly.
"Where are you going?"
"To get the earplugs, I’ll be right back, wait for me."
As soon as Joanna heard he was leaving, her lips trembled, and she immediately looked like she was about to cry.
