Chapter 331 - 51: Blasphemy Against the Divine
CHAPTER 331: CHAPTER 51: BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE DIVINE
"Tick-tock tick-tock..."
Red liquid, resembling sweat and blood, fell from mid-air onto the dry soil, blooming into corrupted flowers.
A sweat-blooded good horse galloped across the mountain ridges, and Viscount Mo’er, who was still employing a plaster cast on his arm, spat behind him upon seeing Fengdan County in the distance. His thick phlegm landed on a withered-looking woman.
The woman’s clothes were ragged, her right arm cradling a barely one-year-old baby, and her left hand supporting an elderly man.
Following the woman were dozens of men and women, all bearing a similar appearance, each invariably shackled by heavy leg irons.
Due to the long trek through the jungle, their soles were worn and torn, mixing blood and sweat on the ground, forming bloody footprints. Their lips, having not touched water, were as parched as the driest land, all crumpled up.
"The scum of Fengdan County, it’s all because of you that I, Lord, have suffered such indignities," Viscount Mo’er spoke after finally being able to walk on the ground after recuperating for over two months.
Thinking back to the bizarre ambush by the County Guard Army that night and the betrayal of the old butler Batesin, Viscount Mo’er was filled with rage.
He knew that all of it was the doing of the impostor Lord that had emerged halfway from Fengdan County. He wanted to seek revenge, but on the other hand, he was also worried about the rumor in the county.
Legend has it, that the unknown impostor Lord had summoned the Beast God.
A beautiful, strong Beast God who vowed to protect Fengdan County.
That questionable Beast God, in just a mere two months, managed to unify the scattered people of Fengdan County.
He sent people repeatedly with the offer of a hefty reward to pry out the true origin of that young lord from those people, but those foolish villagers actually refused.
Beast God, bullshit Beast God would care for that wretched place of Fengdan County, Viscount Mo’er thought and felt chest tightness and shortness of breath. Since those lowly commoners believe in the Beast God, he would use the Beast God to deal with them, the real Beast God, an immensely powerful Beast God.
Viscount Mo’er wore an expression of cunning and urged the County Guards to hurry the group of people caught from Fengdan County.
"Ah Lan, where are we going?" asked the old man, supported by the young woman, his eye sockets hollow, having been blind for a long time.
"Dad, I don’t know either. These demons rushed us to the valley early in the morning. I thought they were driving us back to Fengdan County, but it seems we are heading deep into Xuan Beast Ridge," the woman named Ah Lan hugged her child tighter.
"Why hasn’t Mu Yu come yet? Didn’t he say he would come to save us?" the old man stretched out his hand, touching his grandson’s tender cheeks.
The young woman opened her mouth but couldn’t speak any further.
Her husband Nan Mu Yu had promised months ago that he would come to save them, but time had flown by, and two months had passed, yet he was still nowhere to be heard.
"Snap" a whip lashed mercilessly, the woman screamed in agony, clutching onto the frail shoulders of the old man, enduring the painful lash.
"Quiet down! We are about to reach the Beast God Altar. If you disturb the Beast God, can you bear the responsibility?" the County Guards brandished their whips, lashing at this group of lowly commoners caught from Bailu County to pay the head tax, who did nothing but waste the county’s food every day.
The Beast God Altar, the older villagers in the group grew weak at the knees on hearing the name, almost unable to stand.
The Beast God Altar, that was one of the most dangerous places in the Xuan Beast Ridge, according to the legend.
Legend has it that thousands of years ago, an Evil Dragon lived in the Xuan Beast Ridge, whose cultivation was profound, and a single Dragon Breath could repel the most powerful Dark Beasts of the entire ridge.
The Evil Dragon was bloody and brutal, its throat like an invincible blood cave, consuming any Dark Beast that dared approach it.
Latter, the Evil Dragon was slain by a mighty warrior of the time, and the evil Dragon Soul was suppressed in a location in Xuan Beast Ridge. It is said that to suppress the Evil Dragon, the warrior left behind a treasure of his own, eternally imprisoning the soul of the Evil Dragon in Xuan Beast Ridge.
Yet the soul of the Evil Dragon refused to rest, often ravaging the nearby villages.
To quell the Evil Dragon’s resentment, neighboring counties would prepare offerings every year, and it is said that of those who came to make offerings, few who did not bring enough livestock and Dark Beasts would return alive.
This group of fierce County Guards was actually taking them to the Beast God Altar.
"Shh," the sweat-blooded good horse of Viscount Mo’er let out a panicked neigh, as a colorful mist appeared in front of them.
The mist was multicolored, interspersed with beastly roars like ghostly wails, as if they had entered a maze.
The forest disappeared, the ridge also vanished, almost simultaneously, all the horses and Beast Riders of the County Guards became extremely agitated.
The sweat-blooded good horse of Viscount Mo’er was no exception; the horses were as if suddenly faced with some unseen horrifying force, completely defenseless and prostrating on the ground, as if feeling an overwhelming pressure.
Just then, colorful mist swirled around them, with no path ahead and no way back.
Beast God Smoke; Viscount Mo’er instantly recalled the legends about the Beast God, where the Beast God appeared, there would be Beast God Smoke.
He tumbled and crawled off his horse, pleading from his mouth: "Lord Beast God above, I am Mo’er from Bailu County, I did not mean to offend the Beast God, I came to pay respects to Lord Beast God."
The voice of Viscount Mo’er lingered in the mist for a moment, and after a while, the mist in front dispersed, revealing a dramatically vibrant field of bloody poppies, followed by a majestic altar.
That altar was already surrounded by unknown Dark Beast skeletons, along with some suspected human skeletons.
In the center of the altar was a pillar that seemed to reach straight to the sky, with a six-clawed Black Dragon spiraling around its top. The Black Dragon’s body twisted and turned, appearing over a hundred meters long, every scale glistening, filled with a violent beauty.
That was not the soul of the Evil Dragon—it was an actual dragon!
At that moment, a dim green light flickered in the dragon’s eyes. When the suffering people of Fengdan County saw its eyes, it felt as if their souls were instantly snatched away,
"Hateful human scent, if you, the lord of Bailu County, do not state your reason for disturbing me in the dead of night, you will become a pile of dry bones on the Dragon God’s altar," the Black six-clawed Dragon roared.
That Dragon Roar tore through the sky, with black lightning seeming to burst from the clouds.
"Respected Lord Beast God, or rather Dragon God, I am offering sacrifices to you. I discovered that the new lord of Fengdan County was widely promoting a new Beast God within the county, desecrating your wise name, Lord. In retaliation against those ignorant villagers, I present these people of Fengdan County to you," Viscount Mo’er knelt on the ground, incessantly kowtowing to the Dragon God.
"Ignorant people, daring to desecrate the gods, no wonder the Power of Faith for this deity has been diminishing daily. Fengdan County, you people of Fengdan County have desecrated the dignity of the Beast God, you all deserve to die," the Black Dragon roared furiously, as the skies instantly clouded over menacingly.
Viscount Mo’er, too frightened to move, his ugly face, under the reflection of the black lightning, appeared even more revolting.
