Reborn as a Hatrack in the Mystical Land
Chapter 669 - 126: Insights from Watching the Sunrise with Him
CHAPTER 669: CHAPTER 126: INSIGHTS FROM WATCHING THE SUNRISE WITH HIM
Whispers of the waves were caressing my ears.
The Goddess Tower stood by the sea, and its presence felt unremarkable during the day, but at night, the waves surged from the sea and crashed against the tower’s foundation, their sounds especially clear to the ear.
There was an ordered chaos in the sound of the waves, and coupled with the fact that she had hardly closed her eyes the previous night due to a maritime disaster, Yue Jinghua unknowingly drifted to sleep amidst the undulating waves.
In her sleep, perhaps feeling a slight chill, she curled up tightly.
Inside the lighthouse, those thousand-plus Holy Runes still shone brightly.
With the rustling sound of garments touching the floor, Qing Pu suddenly appeared inside the lighthouse.
His golden pupils fixated on Yue Jinghua, who was fast asleep on the ground, then he surveyed the surroundings.
The night wind blowing from the sea carried a cool breeze with it.
He looked down at Yue Jinghua, curled up on the ground, hesitated for a moment, and removed his cloak to cover her, but just as he was about to do so, a piercing howl emanated from across the sea.
His dense eyebrows lifted, Qing Pu retracted his cloak, and strolled to the window of the tower.
He tossed the Wizard Robe into the sea and watched as it, like a bat king growing wings, rapidly expanded and plunged into the sea.
When the Wizard Robe entered the sea, a huge wave over ten meters high suddenly rose on the water’s surface, charging ferociously towards the open sea.
In an instant, monstrous waves soared to the sky, and that strident howl was abruptly suppressed.
A "川" shaped frown formed on Qing Pu’s forehead, and he seemed somewhat fatigued, his hands resting on the windowsill, while the teardrop-shaped mole by his eye twinkled faintly.
Qing Pu stood by the window all night long, his tall figure blocking the sea breeze from coming in from the sea.
Without the sea breeze, the inside of the lighthouse felt somewhat warmer.
Yue Jinghua had a good night’s sleep and stirred, finally waking up around dawn.
The moment she awoke, she sensed something unusual in the room, and upon opening her eyes, she saw Qing Pu standing by the window like rock formations waiting for their loved ones to return from sea.
His usual blue-patterned long robe was nowhere to be seen, with only a sky blue undershirt on him, embroidered with exquisite golden thread patterns, his long hair lifted high in the morning wind.
In that moment, Qing Pu’s silhouette appeared particularly desolate, both very real and illusory.
It seemed as if he had been standing there for a myriad of years.
An illusion?
Yue Jinghua suddenly realized something, noticing a long shadow dragging on the ground.
Around sunrise, the sky had yet to fully brighten.
Qing Pu stood by the window, his broad shoulders nearly blocking the entire sky.
Only a few mischievous rays of dawn light slipped through the gap of Qing Pu’s shadow, casting a silhouette onto the ground.
A shadow!
Spiritual Bodies do not cast shadows.
Remembering back at sea, the warmth of Qing Pu’s arms, his scorching breath within reach, Yue Jinghua shivered.
Indeed, she almost forgot.
Last time, Qing Pu ungentlemanly threw himself into the sea; he was no longer merely an elusive spiritual body.
"Qing Pu, what’s with your body?" Yue Jinghua asked with a hint of annoyance, glaring at Qing Pu’s back.
Actually, Qing Pu had long been aware of the sharp gaze on his back, sharper than a knife or awl.
He didn’t answer, merely bracing his arm forcefully for a push and performing an elegant vault, his long legs clearing the windowsill.
Yue Jinghua was startled. This kid wouldn’t be thinking of something foolish like jumping off the tower, would he? This was the thirteen-story Goddess Tower, over a hundred meters tall.
Qing Pu leapt gracefully, just dangling his long legs off the side. He sat on the window of the tower, feet swinging in the void, his long hair wildly tossing like a demon snake.
He patted the windowsill, signaling Yue Jinghua to come over.
Yue Jinghua thought for a moment and followed suit, sitting on the high tower’s windowsill.
Once seated, she was at a hundred meters in the sky, with wisps of cloud qi already floating beside the windowsill. Looking ahead toward the sea, she could see a few red-beaked gulls flying towards the rising sun.
Over the sea, the round sun shone brilliantly like a gem, slowly peaking above from the sea’s edge.
"That sun, doesn’t it look like the Holy Rune atop the tower? At first glance, the rays dazzle and enthrall, but truth be told, they all emanate from the sun itself. All things return to their origin; it’s all but one thing," Qing Pu seemed in a good mood today, absent his usual sharp tongue and sardonic wit. However, Yue Jinghua couldn’t quite grasp the deeper meaning of his words.
"Have you stayed in the Star Sea for too long? Not seen the light for ages? And what’s with your body? Can it withstand sunlight, or will it disintegrate like a ghost caught in the sun?" Yue Jinghua was still not accustomed to Qing Pu’s transformation and didn’t pay much attention to his talk about light and the sun.
"It’s been a while since I’ve watched a sunrise from a high place. It brings back memories of old days, thus the sentimentality and my rambling. My Dark Power is recovering. I can appear for a few hours a day. The Holy Rune here is quite mysterious; it would be good for you to study it," seeing that Yue Jinghua gave no significant reaction, Qing Pu didn’t press the point and stood up to leave.
"Hey, you haven’t explained how your Dark Power is recovering. Watching the sunrise from a high place?" Yue Jinghua found his talk increasingly mystifying.
"From a high place, a hundred thousand meters high," Qing Pu said with a mischievous smile, "If there’s a chance, I’ll take you to see a real sunrise."
In the midst of talking, his figure had already disappeared.
"Acting all mysterious," Yue Jinghua commented displeased.
The lighthouse became empty once Qing Pu had left.
The food that Chi Xi brought last night had cooled; Yue Jinghua had no choice but to ignite the Chaos Green Lotus Fire to warm a baozi and hurriedly ate a few bites.
As she chewed the baozi, her gaze occasionally fell on the Holy Runes at the top of the tower, with Qing Pu’s words inexplicably echoing in her mind.
Sunrise and light?
The sea was already dazzingly vibrant, turning into an array of colors under the sunlight.
Yue Jinghua dropped the baozi in her hand and sprang up.
She raised her head, gazing intently at the Holy Runes on the top of the lighthouse.
Each pattern was so intricate, each one so unique.
They were outstanding works of art, having been inside the lighthouse for over eight hundred years.
"One thousand and eight Holy Runes, seemingly one thousand and eight distinct runes, but each stroke is independent. Like strands of sunlight, they may seem to each have a different color, but in reality, they are all part of the sun. A part, indeed a part; these runes may seem separate, but in fact, they all form a whole, a new independent pattern constructed from them," Yue Jinghua’s eyes traced them, as a pen would on paper, eventually resting at the center of the lighthouse dome.
A smile appeared on her lips, "So this is it, one thousand and eight Holy Runes make up one new rune, or perhaps I should say, one new Divine Rune."
