CHAPTER 1331: CHAPTER 679: COUNTERATTACK (PART 2)
"What, you’re saying that too?" Lian Lanlan’s breath caught in her throat; she couldn’t believe Lian Shouren was targeting her.
"You’re being disobedient and unfilial. Your intentions aren’t good, you’re harming us," Lian Shouren added.
Lian Lanlan was completely dumbfounded by Lian Shouren’s words. She stared wide-eyed in shock for a while, then burst into tears, trying to defend herself as she cried.
"Are you trying to rush me to my death?" Lian Shouyi looked around and also pointed at Lian Lanlan, scolding her. Lian Shouren reprimanding Lian Lanlan shocked him as well. In a short time, his mind was racing. Lian Shouyi thought he understood the current situation: Lian Shouren was siding with Lian Manman, scolding Lian Lanlan to please Lian Manman. Lian Shouren must be doing this for some benefit!
If there’s a benefit, how could Lian Shouren be the only one to get it? Lian Shouyi wiped the sweat off his forehead. He was pondering what would happen if Lian Manman found out about his earlier attempt to visit her family. They would surely resent him. What benefits would he get then?
Inwardly, Lian Shouyi cursed. Lian Shouren was just slyer than him. Now, Lian Shouren had already gained an advantage. No, he couldn’t let Lian Shouren get all the benefits; he had to make an effort too.
"Do you think you’re on the bed of another family, crying as if our parents have passed? You’ve brought misfortune upon us. Our mother’s illness is because of your troublemaking. If her illness doesn’t improve, you’ll have to answer to me," said Lian Shouyi, rolling up his sleeves and threatening Lian Lanlan. "You make no contribution to the family, only trouble for Grandma and Grandpa. If you don’t calm down, you’ll be causing trouble every time you come back, making us get reprimanded by Grandma."
Scolded again by Lian Shouyi, Lian Lanlan felt so ashamed she wished there was a hole to crawl into. Lian Manman sat there, saying nothing, making no move, but she was somewhat surprised at Lian Shouyi’s sudden shift.
But upon further thought, Lian Manman understood. Lian Shouyi had his own little tricks and had always followed behind Lian Shouren. Lian Shouyi was now trying to curry favor with her, afraid that any benefit would be monopolized by Lian Shouren.
Lian Manman found it amusing, her eyes drifting towards Lady Zhou. At this moment, Lady Zhou seemed forgotten by everyone. When Lian Manman saw Lady Zhou’s current state, she almost laughed out loud.
Lady Zhou had closed her eyes, but her eyeballs were rolling beneath her lids, and her mouth was no longer muttering. Her hands were at her sides, clenching and unclenching.
Lady Zhou was definitely anxious now, conflicted about whether to keep feigning ignorance or suddenly recover. That was indeed a dilemma!
"Wasn’t it just a few days ago when Old Fourth sent fabric, and Grandma was very pleased? But you kept muttering and provoked Grandma into demanding Old Fourth spend more money to buy more. All the fussing and cursing from Grandma was at your instigation," Lian Shouyi exposed.
"You’re talking nonsense, spewing lies," Lian Lanlan’s eyes nearly popped out in panic. Being accused of unfilial acts wasn’t as terrifying as being revealed as the instigator against Lian Manman’s family. Her family still relied on Wu Lang for help. If they found out about her meddling, would they still help?
"This isn’t the only thing you’ve done; I know much more," encouraged by a glance at Lian Manman’s expression, Lian Shouyi raised his voice further, "You even resented Manman for not taking Yin Suo to meet a noble, provoking Grandma back then..."
As Lian Shouyi continued to reveal Lian Lanlan’s secrets, she completely broke down, crying uncontrollably and adamantly insisting that Lian Shouyi was fabricating lies.
"...bully this widow and orphan..." Lian Lanlan cried.
"You’re cursing yourself, don’t drag us into it," Lian Shouyi heartlessly replied.
"Enough, enough, shut your mouths!" Old Master Lian shouted several times, finally slapping the bed forcefully to stop the two from arguing.
Old Master Lian looked grim, pressing his temple as his head buzzed.
At this moment, footsteps sounded outside as the young man from Lian Manman’s family led Doctor Li inside. Shortly after, Er Ya helped Lady Da Zhou in. Lady Da Zhou was Er Ya’s grandmother and Lady Zhou’s cousin. Currently, at Thirty Mile Camp, Lady Da Zhou was the only one Lady Zhou still had contact with.
The two groups met along the way and came together.
"I heard your grandmother is ill, so I came to see her," Lady Da Zhou said as she entered, greeting Lady Chiang.
Lian Manman stood up and greeted Doctor Li and Lady Da Zhou.
Lady Da Zhou was invited to sit on the bed, holding Lady Zhou’s hand, calling her name a few times, but Lady Zhou kept her eyes closed and remained silent.
"Is she this severely ill?" Lady Da Zhou sighed, helpless.
Old Master Lian coughed a few times, but Lady Zhou still did not react.
Lady Da Zhou provided a step, and Lian Manman wondered if Lady Zhou would "recover" with this opportunity. Old Master Lian’s coughing was clearly a reminder for Lady Zhou, but from her appearance, Lady Zhou seemed determined to continue playing her part.
With Lady Zhou unresponsive, Doctor Li had to sit by the bed and take her pulse. After a while, Doctor Li moved his hand away from Lady Zhou’s wrist, looked at her for a moment, shook his head with a sigh, then turned to Old Master Lian, his gaze meaningful.
