Lian Lanlan hung her head, using a handkerchief to wipe her tears, while secretly glancing over at Lian Manman.

Lian Manman was right next to Lady Da Zhou, sitting close to Er Ya. She sensed Lian Lanlan’s gaze, turned slightly, and looked back.

After sending Lady Da Zhou off, Lian Manman and Lian Yeye planned to leave too.

"When grandma wakes up, tell her I’ll be back next time to help her take her medicine. With Dad not home, Mom can’t come, so I’ll represent them." As Lian Manman stood in the room, she instructed everyone before leaving.

"Mom wanted to come but can’t make it, she’s very uneasy. Mom says once she feels a bit better, she’ll come to see grandma." As she left, Lian Manman added.

Lady Chiang escorted Lian Manman to the front gate. Lian Lanlan didn’t come to see her off but stayed by Lady Zhou’s side.

Lian Manman brought Lian Yeye home, and as soon as they entered, knowing nobody else was around to see, Lian Yeye began laughing non-stop all the way inside.

"What good thing happened to make you laugh like this?" Lady Zhang, Lady Zhao, and Lian Zhizhi, seeing Lian Yeye, were curious.

Lian Yeye enthusiastically recounted what had transpired at the old residence, particularly how Lady Zhou feigned illness and was administered medicine.

"That medicine was just made; I tasted a bit, and oh, just that tiny bit on the tip of my tongue made me suffer with its bitterness." Lian Yeye spoke with amusement, "Really as bitter as gall."

"Bitter medicine is good for you; there’s no sweet medicine in the world." Lady Zhang claimed.

"Doctor Li did prescribe sweet soup once, that hawthorn sweet soup." Lian Manman replied.

"He must be annoyed, this is. Pretending to be sick and always bothering him – he probably was kind and considered your dad’s reputation; otherwise, he would have long refused to help." Lady Zhang commented, "Lian Shouxin certainly had a lot to say to Doctor Li; with him away this time, and Lian Manman there, Doctor Li just prescribed coptis root for Lady Zhou. Doctor Li is quite clever indeed."

"Exactly." Lady Zhao agreed.

"Sister Manman, when you said to administer medicine, I went to taste it. I was thinking if it turned out to be sweet soup or something, I’d put a handful of salt in it. See if she continued to cause trouble afterwards." Lian Yeye told Lian Manman.

"You all are quite bold indeed." Lady Zhang didn’t scold Lian Manman nor Lian Yeye.

"Mom, you didn’t see—once that bowl of medicine was given, grandma couldn’t keep pretending. The way she was, it was clear to everyone she wasn’t truly confused." Lian Manman laughed.

"Sister Manman, do you think after drinking the medicine once today, will she continue pretending tomorrow?" Lian Yeye asked Lian Manman.

"No." Lian Manman confidently replied, "Just wait, by tonight she’ll be better, and tomorrow, they’ll have to come over to apologize to my mom."

"If they stay quiet, I’d be chanting Buddha’s name, don’t let them come over, I don’t need their apologies." Lady Zhang said.

"Mom, this must be done." Lian Manman insisted.

"If they truly repent, without apologies it’s still fine. I don’t enjoy watching others bow their heads to me, it’s meaningless."

Lady Zhang stated, "Even if they bow this time, once they rebound later, they’ll have to regain face, and it’ll be troublesome again."

Lian Manman secretly shook her head. Being manipulated by Lady Zhou was partly due to Lady Zhou’s domineering nature and partially because of Lady Zhang’s stubborn personality.

"Mom, don’t worry. After this, they’ll never rebound." Lian Manman laughed.
