Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress
Chapter 325: He Seemed Familiar
CHAPTER 325: HE SEEMED FAMILIAR
[Damn it. This bastard! He dares tattle on me! I should shut him up. But if I use magic, that elf might notice me. These people are truly dangerous. I shouldn’t make my presence known. I thought this vessel would be able to break free from prison. But the Emperor’s famed magician was actually here with them. He was not on the list of delegates. I should leave quietly during the execution.]
Arabella was wide-eyed when she heard the thoughts of the other soul inside Jacob.
It was a male. He knew Alwin was an elf. And his plan to escape during the execution reminded Arabella of Hayden.
’This voice. I’ve heard it before. Is this also the same person that occupied Hayden’s body?!’
Arabella did not hear him think about anything else related to Safiro though. But his voice truly sounded familiar. And the fact that he knew about Alwin made him even more dangerous. He might know about Ferdinand’s real identity as well.
"Let’s go. There’s nothing left for us to do here," Ferdinand didn’t want her to stay long with those who tried to kill her.
He thought it might be difficult for Arabella to speak with them. He was on alert the whole time ready to interfere in case Adolfo or Jacob said something that scared her.
[She’s braver than she looks. I thought she would be terrified of them.]
Her husband was impressed, but Arabella didn’t understand why she wasn’t scared either.
Perhaps it was because she had already experienced death once. Or because she was assured Ferdinand would be able to protect her no matter what.
[Why is there no sign of fear or anger at all in her eyes or actions even though she almost died because of them? It’s weird. Wouldn’t one usually have any of these two or both?]
Arabella flinched when she heard Alwin’s thoughts. He was right. She should be feeling any of those two, but she doesn’t. She wasn’t angry or scared. It was indeed weird. But she does want them to get punished for what they did.
’Right. Alwin’s reaction was the normal one. Are my husband’s eyes clouded by his feelings that he didn’t think it was weird and thought I was brave instead?’
Then, Arabella recalled that there had been a lot of assassination attempts for her in her past life, but as time went by, she got used to it.
’Ah, it must be because of that. I’m already used to it, so I wasn’t as scared or as furious as I did in the past.’
She was once so terrified the first few times she experienced it. The following times, she was furious. And as time went by, she got used to it and learned to live with it.
But more importantly, Arabella had missing memories she could not remember and the other soul inside Jacob may have been the one that had been in Hayden’s body.
"I wonder why Jacob feels familiar. It’s like I have met him before but I’m not sure where," Arabella pretended to be thinking out loud.
Both Alwin and Ferdinand stared at her.
[Don’t tell me, she even had deals with these kinds of people in the past life?!] Alwin instantly got worried.
’Stop with that disgusted look on your face, Alwin. I was just trying to hint at something else. I never had anything to do with slave traders.’
When she had a lot of praise for Ferdinand, Alwin thought he approved of her. But now, he was making such a face. It was somewhat funny that she had to stop herself from laughing.
"What do you mean? Did you get exposed to such dangerous people before?" Ferdinand was worried about something else.
[Was the security her guards were providing this lax back in Lobelius?]
"No. I just thought he kind of reminds me of Hayden. I wonder why," Arabella added and the two glanced at each other.
"Hayden? That magician who did all sorts of things in Safiro?"
"Yes. Maybe it’s because they both use magic that affects the mind. Ah, right. Jacob did say it wasn’t him but the other one inside him. Could they be related? Or was it easy to learn magic that could influence the mind?" Arabella tilted her head.
[Right. They could be related indeed. I wonder if Alwin noticed which was why he asked for some of his limiters to be lifted.] Ferdinand glanced at Alwin.
{I’m still trying to verify it, my lord. But there is indeed a high possibility they were related. Or they could even be the same person. I will look more into it.}
Arabella was relieved Alwin already had a clue about it and was trying to investigate.
[How did she notice? If I hadn’t asked for some of my limiters to be lifted, I would have not felt his presence. Did the gods make her more observant and sensitive to things this time?]
’Please just ignore how and why,’ Arabella internally prayed.
"It takes quite a lot of time so it’s quite rare to find people like Hayden or the other soul in Jacob among humans. The long-lived races can learn it, but its use is limited. There are a lot of rules to follow and most magic that affects the mind is prohibited. I cannot even use it as I please."
"You can use it too?!" Arabella stared at her husband.
"With a lot of restrictions. I can only use it in matters related to protecting Estrella now," Ferdinand raised both of his hands as if telling her she would never use it on her. He was worried she might misunderstand and begin to fear him again.
It was indeed scary if her own husband used such kind of magic on her. She already had missing memories she had no clue about, so she’d rather not lose more.
Alwin then left to do a bit more digging, and Riley replaced his post.
