CHAPTER 815: CHAPTER 815: NECROMANCERS

Thus, Alvis was likely losing his mind pondering on what could be going on for Alwin to be injured when he was such a powerful magician that had such strong barriers for defense.

Alvis might have already used the power of the Holy Tree to see what’s going on.

And yet, Alwin was acting so nonchalantly about it.

"You really underestimate how much your uncle loves you," Raymond sighed.

"He just wants me to pass on his work to me," Alwin muttered.

He had begun to realize that he was indeed cherished by his uncle much more than he thought but he was shy about it so he was trying to deny it.

"Anyway, is the situation in the Alba Estate? You had to fight as well and even a giant tree and vines were only able to stop them temporarily. It must be quite a mess," Raymond said as he glanced at Alwin’s bloodied cloak with a look of disapproval in his face.

The blood and dirt was slowly vanishing thanks to the magic spell Alwin had cast on it beforehand like the one he used on Ferdinand’s clothes.

[When was the last time Alwin had to be this dirty when he’s usually always neat? Isn’t this the first time? Is he trying to keep a bold front by acting like this?]

Raymond didn’t like seeing Alwin like this since they had taken very good care of him that he did not need to get a single drop of blood in his clothes.

[Seeing his sword still dripping with blood, he must have had to use it to defend himself. This must be his first time killing a human with his own sword. Is he alright?] Zion was also worried.

Arabella gulped at that. Raymond and Zion were both right.

Alwin always uses magic so this was also Arabella’s first time seeing him bloody and injured and it didn’t sit well with her either.

They were not expecting to get injured at all in this war since among all the long lived races from Estrella who were here, he was the one who could use magic much more freely than everyone else despite his limiters.

Alwin was supposed to be untouchable.

No one was supposed to be able to come close enough for him to be in this state.

Thus, seeing Alwin unexpectedly hurt like this and having to fight at close range made feel like they had already terribly failed and all their plans had gone wrong.

"It’s quite bad. I finally understood why Crux was brave enough to offend us. They had prepared something dirty," Alwin grimaced.

"What is it?" Arabella inquired nervously.

"This is the first time I encountered them in person. I thought they no longer existed in the human world and it’s forbidden in Estrella," Alwin replied and his two elders frowned.

"Something forbidden in Estrella being used by humans?" Zion frowned.

"How would they have something that is forbidden even to us?" Raymond furrowed his brows. "Do you not know what it is?"

"I have only read about them in books. They used the body of the dead people and made them attack us," Alwin said and his elders froze.

"Necromancers?!" Zion and Raymond gasped.

"Why would they have a necromancer in Crux?! Ever since it was prohibited after the Great War, we have ensured that even humans are not allowed to use necromancy ever again," Raymond said in alarm.

[No wonder Alwin used up his mana. He’s not trained or equipped in fighting the undead.]

"It seems the Great Temple has slacked off. How could they allow necromancers to roam around like this," Zion muttered in disdain.

[Why are they here again after so long? Alwin had no equipment for such things and we have not taught him magic against those either since it had been forbidden to practice necromancy or anything related to it.]

"What are they? What do you mean they used the body of the dead people to attack?" Arabella did not understand.

It was one of the greatest disrespects to use the body of a dead person for something else instead of letting them rest peacefully.

Even in war, the bodies of the dead are usually allowed to be mourned and buried or burned.

"Necromancers are magicians who specialize in manipulating the dead and control them to do their bidding.

They trap the soul of the dead into their bodies or use someone else’s soul to keep the body moving even after death.

If the caster is powerful enough, he could share his lifeforce to dead bodies to manipulate them and use them as weapons of war.

They are called the undead.

A long long time ago, they were used in battle to secure certain victory.

Since their bodies are already dead and were only maintained with magic, they are the perfect soldiers.

They do not need to rest, eat, or heal.

They can go on fighting over and over again.

But it had been prohibited since the Great War," Raymond explained.

"That’s terrible!" Arabella gasped. "It would be an endless battle with them around."

It meant that even if Valeria had a lot of soldiers, the more people die in the war, the more the enemy becomes stronger because there would be more dead for them to manipulate.

"It truly was. I kept using my magic to protect the people but my efforts became useless since those things just kept on standing up again," Alwin sighed.

"Then, this means, even now, they are trying to kill more people?" Arabella asked Alwin and he nodded. "How do we stop them then?"

"I don’t know. Fighting them is useless since they will only drain our resources and lessen our number to increase theirs as more time passes. I have never encountered such a foe before," Alwin said and glanced at his elders who knew about necromancers.

"First, get off that damned arrow from your palm and heal your wound. It’s bothering me," Zion pointed at Alwin’s hand still dripping with blood.

Alwin had already filled several small containers while they were talking.
