"I know. But I was sure it would work. The Overseer taught me the right amount of mana to use so I would not make a mistake," Alwin used the Overseer as a shield.

He did not want to get scolded again so he could only cite the Overseer who had the highest authority in Estrella.

"How could I let her die after she and her companions protected me from such danger? It would have been terrible if I had to recover from getting hit with several arrows. Even I might take some time to recover."

Alwin had learned from Arabella’s tactics and acted all pitiful and wronged with how they were questioning him.

Raymond and Zion froze at Alwin’s expression since they had seen him cry when he was little.

It brought back memories and they softened up, not wanting to make him cry or feel bad when he was just trying to save someone who helped him.

Raymond and Zion glanced at each other and talked telepathically.

{His parents were killed by humans so Alwin had been hateful to humans for a while which was why we didn’t want to bring him here in the human realm. Even if he’s grateful they protected him, can Alwin really just sacrifice his precious mana core for a human he barely even knew?} Zion pointed out.

{Indeed. It doesn’t make sense. The usual Alwin would have just brought her here to be healed later and not used a mana core even if she’s in a critical condition. And with this spell, he would have to use another mana core to undo it. Would Alwin really use his mana cores just like this?} Raymond was also doubtful.

{Unless she is someone special to him...} Zion hinted at something and Raymond was wide-eyed.

{Oh! Could it be that he has found his mate?!} Raymond glanced at Alwin.

Alwin gulped nervously at the sudden enthusiasm in his elders eyes, "W-what is it?"

He took a step back as his two elders walked towards him.

"Alwin, do you feel an overwhelming sense of protectiveness when you see her?" Zion inquired with a hand on Alwin’s shoulder so he could not escape their questions.

"What?" Alwin did not understand why Zion was suddenly asking such a question.

"Did you feel drawn to her at first sight but held back all this time?" Raymond asked next.

"Huh? Of course not. What are you talking about?" Alwin frowned.

’What are they talking about indeed?! Should I remind them Emily is already married and is like a mother to Sebastian and Seraphina?’ Arabella was getting a headache while listening to them.

"Are you sure? Do you not pick a scent from her that only you could smell? Do you not feel an almost uncontrollable desire to be with this person?" Raymond inquired.

[Aren’t those words somewhat like sexual harassment? And this lady is injured from protecting His Eminence. This is the first time I felt ashamed of my brother.] Ronald thought.

"No! Of course not!" Alwin denied with a more puzzled look. "Why would I?"

"Are you sure?" Zion asked with a serious look.

"I am. Why are you even asking me such things?" Alwin replied, still not understanding their meaning.

"It’s a relief then if that’s the case," Zion sighed.

"Indeed," Raymond sighed in relief as well.

"Huh? Why would you even worry about such things?" Alwin tilted his head in confusion.

He did not grasp their meaning at all since it never crossed his mind in the first place.

"We were worried you could have found your mate," Raymond clarified.

"Huh?! No way! I don’t need a mate," Alwinfinally understood their words and took a step back from them even more at how that word disgusted him.

After all, Alwin had no interest in love or women in the meantime and especially not in settling down.

"And please mind your words. This lady is married to the magician called Jacob," Alwin reminded his elder.

"I know. That was why it was even more worrisome. It’s all good then if it’s not her. We can’t have you breaking apart lovers as well," Zion said and covered his mouth as he glanced at Arabella.

"My apologies," Zion immediately bowed his head towards her since Ferdinand did cause her to part with her former lover.

"Haha. I’m fine. I have moved on from that," Arabella chuckled.

She did not like how she parted with her former lover since it caused them a lot of pain, but she has moved on now.

However, that doesn’t mean she would condone such an act.

She was glad they knew what Ferdinand did was wrong and they did not want a repeat of it.

"But it would indeed be terrible if Alwin copies that example and tries to part a perfectly loving couple," Arabella added and Raymond, Rendell, and Zion flinched even when she was not trying to scold them about it.

She was looking at Alwin.

"Of course, I won’t. I’m not even interested in getting married," Alwin brushed it off.

"Then why did you use this complicated and forbidden spell on her?" Zion pursued the topic since they still could not figure out why Alwin would sacrifice two mana cores for a human he had only met once or twice.

After all, even if Emily dies, it would not heavily affect their plans about Crux.

And Emily and her companions protecting Alwin was only right and necessary if they wanted to save the lives of their people whom Alwin was protecting in turn.

If they had let Alwin get distracted by the arrows or die from it, they would have also lost the lives of their people.

Emily, Jacob, Prince Sebastian, and Princess Seraphina understood that much just from watching how Alwin protected everyone with his barriers.

Thus, their decision to protect Alwin was not only for him but for themselves as well as their people.
