CHAPTER 858: CHAPTER 858: MORE TIRED THAN USUAL

But would it still work now that some of them had mated with humans?

When Ferdinand and his fellow primordial dragons were all in hibernation, humanity had the chance to wipe out all the long-lived races since the young ones grew too complacent and weak over the years.

However, now that Ferdinand and the others had been awakened from their slumber, humanity had no chance to win another Great War.

If he was allowed to use his real body, Ferdinand all alone could raze one continent to another in a single day. Especially now that humans only had a few mages left compared to the past.

The only protection humans had now that could likely hurt the long-lived races was the Pope and the Great Temple since they had access to resources that could kill the long-lived races.

But of course, such things would not be able to kill Ferdinand and the primordials. Only the young ones.

The only unknown factor was the extent of the Pope’s and his disciples’ powers.

Ferdinand hadn’t tried fighting with the Pope yet so he did not know yet just how strong the latter’s Divine Power was.

If it was in the past, Ferdinand would have welcomed it with open arms if the Pope and his disciples could actually kill him.

But things are different now that he’s married.

Ferdinand has Arabella now and he wanted to live with her for as long as possible.

Plus, Arabella is a human who knows a lot of other humans. With how kind she is, Ferdinand could tell she would be devastated if her kind was wiped out leaving only a few whom they deemed safe.

Even if, say, Valeria, Lobelius, and some territories were the only ones left untouched, Ferdinand knew Arabella would not be happy about it.

Likewise, who knew how much greed would be triggered among the humans once they learned about the immense power long-lived races held.

Further, if they did such a thing, it would breed more fear and hatred which would only end up in another cycle of fighting each other for eons.

Once humanity’s population flourishes again, they would once again attack the long-lived races.

This was a cycle Ferdinand was very familiar with.

He had forgotten a lot of memories and events in the past but he had been recalling things lately.

When he was young and naive, there were times he had tried allying with humans.

Ferdinand helped protect them and their territory and helped them conquer other territories.

But all such times, it led to one thing.

After the villages, territories, and nations he helped grew powerful enough, they tried to kill him out of fear of what he could do.

When they realized it would be hard to eliminate him once he grew even stronger, they tried killing him through various means while they thought they could.

Especially once they learned that he would not be an obedient dog to them and they would never be able to fully control or possess him.

A lot of humans love power.

They fear and lust for it at the same time.

Thus, they would never simply accept that only a few humans now could harness their mana and use magic.

After all, just as Ferdinand and his fellow primordials longed for a shorter lifespan, humans wish for the opposite.

Both existences craved for what they did not have and would likely continue to do so.

This was why Estrella and Umbra were separated from the human realm.

To prevent another Great War from occuring again and again which could possibly trigger the end of this era.

Since the Pope had requested for a meeting with Ferdinand right after the incident in Crux, it would either be the former declaring war or making excuses as to why the weapons and poison resurfaced.

Ferdinand figured it would be the latter since there were no reports about the Pope and the Great Temple mass gathering disciples or fighters.

Knock. Knock.

Ferdinand’s thoughts were cut upon hearing the knock on the door.

They already knew who it was from his presence.

It was Alfredo.

"I came to bring refreshments, Your Majesty," Alfredo said.

Ferdinand glanced at Raymond and Zion, wordlessly asking if they were the ones who told Alfredo to do so.

They shook their heads.

"It must be Her Majesty," Raymond said with a hint of teasing in his tone.

Zion smirked as well.

Ferdinand snorted and ignored their antics. These two had gained the habit to do this when it’s just them.

Raymond was probably right though.

Since it was neither of the two, it was probably Arabella indeed.

" Come in," Ferdinand said and Alfredo entered with a trolley.

"Her Majesty instructed me to bring refreshments," Alfredo answered their unvoiced questions which were probably too obvious on their faces.

"I see..." Ferdinand slowly nodded. He could not help but smile.

Raymond and Zion gave more teasing looks but Ferdinand did not notice as he was lost in his thoughts, revelling at his wife’s thoughtfulness.

With this, Ferdinand concluded that whatever the reason was for Arabella to hide from him, she was likely not angry at him if she would still take care of him like this.

He took a sip of the drink Alfredo served and felt himself relax.

The effect was quite strong compared to normal drinks. He raised a brow.

"This has ingredients from Estrella," Ferdinand noted and glanced at Alfredo as the latter was preparing to excuse himself after serving drinks to Raymond and Zion.

"Her Majesty asked me to bring something to ease exhaustion and help you relax," Alfredo explained.

"Do I look that tired?!" Ferdinand glanced at his comrades.

"Your Majesty did seem to be a bit more tired than usual," Raymond nodded and took a gulp of his drink as well.

Ferdinand glanced at Zion and Alfredo and they seconded Raymond.

Although my body felt alright, I did feel a bit more tired than usual. But how could I let my guard down and let it show?’

Ferdinand sighed and settled his back on his seat.
