CHAPTER 1415: CHAPTER 1415: THE UNKNOWN SECRET

What kind of mess is this? Not only did she fail to help in the slightest, but she also created a whole new issue. The Ning family is going to resent her to death now.

She packed up her things and headed to the police station, still having to think about how to explain the situation to her uncle and aunt. What sin had she committed to deserve this?

When she arrived at the police station, her uncle and aunt were already there. The police had finished handling the matter: everyone involved was detained for fifteen days and fined five hundred yuan.

The families of the people Cheng Jun had called refused to accept this. They surrounded Cheng Jun’s parents, demanding that the Cheng family pay all fines and medical expenses—or else this matter wouldn’t end.

Cheng Jun’s parents, feeling frustrated, started blaming Wang Hailan as well, saying it was all because of her. They couldn’t afford the money, and insisted that Wang Hailan had to cover part of the cost.

Wang Hailan had no choice but to handle the situation as quickly as possible. She decided to call Ning Ziping for help.

Sure enough, when the Ning family showed up, Old Lady Ning scolded Wang Hailan so harshly it was as though she’d been drenched in filth.

After finishing with Wang Hailan, the old lady turned to curse the Wang family, saying the nastiest things imaginable. Ning Ziping tried to intervene several times, but it was useless.

Finally, Mother Wang couldn’t bear it anymore. "Have you had enough? If it weren’t for you forcing my daughter into that ridiculous fake divorce, my nephew wouldn’t have been so angry as to find people to settle scores. And now you still have the nerve to yell at us?"

Old Lady Ning became even angrier upon hearing this. "If your daughter hadn’t married into the Ning family and failed to produce a single son or daughter, would we have had to go through so much trouble to bring that child back? Do you think we wanted to bear this burden?"

Even the police couldn’t stand listening anymore. Someone stepped forward and said, "Stop arguing already. Take a look at where you are."

Eventually, the money was split among the Ning, Wang, and Cheng families, and the matter was resolved.

The Cheng couple, however, developed grievances toward their sister-in-law and niece because of this. They believed it was their fault that their son got into trouble and they ended up paying so much money.

Stone was very satisfied when he heard the outcome.

The next day, he was in a great mood as he packed his bags early and returned to his post.

For the past few days, Wang Hailan had been feeling extremely depressed. Ning Ziping, still grudging over the previous incident, hadn’t shown her any kindness.

That day, after leaving work, she didn’t go home directly. Instead, she walked aimlessly along the road lined with tall sycamore trees. Feeling tired, she stopped by one of the trees, leaning against its trunk in a daze.

Ning Zijun, the eldest of the Ning family, had come to this area to deliver something. As he was leaving, he spotted his sister-in-law standing in the distance. He was just about to approach her to say hello when he noticed a car slowly pulling up beside her. A man stepped out and started talking to her.

He felt there was something unusual about the man who had gotten out of the car. When he saw the man reach out excitedly, seemingly trying to grab his sister-in-law’s hand, he stepped forward quickly to intervene.

Just as he reached the back of the sycamore tree where Wang Hailan was standing, he overheard the man say, "I can’t believe it’s really you. Are you alright? How is our child? Is it a boy or a girl?"

Wang Hailan appeared alarmed. "What are you doing here?"

The man replied, "It’s a long story. I had no choice but to leave without saying goodbye back then. I just returned to the Capital a few days ago. As soon as I got back, I tried to find you, but the neighbors from your old home said your family moved away over a decade ago and they didn’t know your address. I couldn’t believe our paths crossed here today."

It took Wang Hailan a long time to snap out of her shock. "Since you disappeared, why come back now?"

Seeing the hatred in Wang Hailan’s eyes, the man quickly tried to explain. "Something really urgent happened back then, and I had no choice but to leave. I’ve felt guilty for all these years."

Wang Hailan didn’t reply to his words and instead asked, "Wei Liling, are you married now?"

Wei Liling froze for a moment, then nodded slightly. "I am."

Wang Hailan sneered bitterly, her laughter tinged with mockery. "You’re nothing but a huge liar. You ruined me—left me in that state—and now you brush it off with your ’no choice’ excuse. Did you ever think about how I would survive, pregnant and unmarried?

And now you’ve got the gall to show up, with a fake sense of remorse, telling me you’ve felt guilty all these years? Don’t you find that laughable?"

Wei Liling lowered his head. "I’m sorry. I’ll compensate you."

Tears welled up in Wang Hailan’s eyes. "Compensate? How do you intend to compensate? My entire life has been wrecked by you. Do you think your so-called compensation can erase the damage you caused?"
