Reborn as a Tough Army Wife
Chapter 707 - 702: Negotiation
CHAPTER 707: CHAPTER 702: NEGOTIATION
Xibao, seeing the situation, also felt a surge of curiosity in his heart. He wanted to know what these biscuits were involved in that could make Xu He look like this.
So, when they were about to reach their destination, he deliberately tried to probe and said, "Miss Xu, are these biscuits meant as a gift for my boss when you meet him?"
"No." Xu He was jolted by Xibao’s words as if she had just woken from a dream. She looked down at the several packages of biscuits in her hands, realizing that it seemed inappropriate to throw them away anywhere around. Previously, she was worried that if she threw them too close by, they might easily be found, but now, casually discarding them might pose a trouble if someone picked and ate them, potentially leading to death.
After thinking for a bit, she suddenly handed the biscuits to Xibao, instructing him carefully, "Find a place to throw these biscuits away, and remember, throw them somewhere where no one will find them."
"This..." Xibao, hearing Xu He say this, became more puzzled. Looking at the biscuits in his hand, he still couldn’t help but probe, "Wouldn’t that be a waste? If Miss Xu doesn’t like to eat them, why not give them to me? I know these biscuits are not cheap."
Upon hearing this, Xu He immediately waved her hands at Xibao, fearing that he would really eat them, and quickly blurted out the truth, "These biscuits aren’t for eating, they have poison on them... for killing rats, you can’t eat them."
Using biscuits to poison rats, especially such expensive ones, was certainly the first time Xibao had heard of it. But he knew he wouldn’t pry any further and with feigned regret, he said, "Ah, that’s too bad."
Xu He, truly afraid that Xibao might eat the biscuits out of concern for waste, hastily said, "It’s not a pity. I’ll buy you some other time."
"Okay then, I’ll find a proper place to discard them later." Although Xibao said this, he kept a wary mind. He planned to show the biscuits to his boss later, perhaps even earning some merit through this.
Afterwards, the two did not speak further. Xibao took Xu He through several twists and turns. Eventually, he led her to a place resembling an alley, then into a house. Xibao knocked on the door of one of the rooms. Hearing voices from inside, Xibao opened the door and saw several people sitting in the room, with Shuanzi in the middle. Xibao bowed his head and announced, "Boss, Xu He has been brought here."
Shuanzi glanced at Xu He standing by the door, or rather, he looked seriously at her protruding belly and then nodded his head, "Let her in."
Xu He felt a bit panicked as she looked at Shuanzi and his subordinates in the room, unsure what Shuanzi wanted her for. Nevertheless, she took precaution in advance, "If you called me here for something, I’ll tell you now, the one who owes you money is Luo Zhiming. If you really want to collect a debt, go find him. A woman with a big belly like me can’t earn any money, taking me is useless."
Shuanzi gave Xu He a glance, then smiled slightly, shook his head at her, looked at her belly, and asked, "It’s not about money. I called you here this time to ask if what you said last time was true?"
Xu He was stunned, not remembering what Shuanzi wanted to ask about, and it took her a while to respond, "What did I say?"
Shuanzi did not continue the conversation but instead fixed his gaze on her prominently raised belly, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
Xu He wasn’t foolish; she instantly realized Shuanzi’s probable reason for calling her, certainly related to the child in her womb.
Considering this possibility, Xu He felt an overwhelming joy. Her original reason for approaching Shuanzi last time was the belief that there was no future with Luo Zhiming and she wanted to switch allegiance to Shuanzi. Had Shuanzi been willing to take her, she would have left Luo Zhiming long ago.
Although Shuanzi wasn’t exactly a good man, he was better than Luo Zhiming in every aspect. At least she wouldn’t have to worry about food and clothing and could stay in the city.
However, due to Shuanzi’s extremely indifferent attitude last time, Xu He also had reservations. She didn’t want to have her dignity trampled upon by Shuanzi again. Now that it was Shuanzi who had asked for her, she needed to take the initiative.
Thus, she felt more confident, unlike how timid she was when she had first arrived. She didn’t answer Shuanzi’s question but simply scanned the room and then, with a somewhat arrogant tone, said, "I’m hugely pregnant, and it’s quite exhausting. Having been here for so long without anyone offering a chair to sit on, I really am not in the mood to discuss matters with you."
Shuanzi watched as Xu He’s attitude changed so quickly. His eyes narrowed slightly, yet he still nodded to one of his subordinates behind him. Shortly after, a subordinate brought a chair over for Xu He.
Xu He gracefully sat down, looked at Shuanzi, and pretending not to understand what Shuanzi had just said, she asked, "I’m not sure what Shuanzi meant by his words just now."
Shuanzi had seen all kinds of people in his life. He could see through Xu He’s little scheming at a glance. And if Xu He really dared to play tricks on him, she truly didn’t know her place.
However, since he needed to discuss matters with her, he smiled lightly and rather than elaborate, he directly asked what he wanted to know, "Last time in the shopping mall, you said the child in your belly is mine. I want to know if this is true or false?"
Hearing this, Xu He was sure it was about the child. She became quite arrogant, relaxing her body into the chair, and then feigned deep recollection for a long time before tilting her head to ask Shuanzi, "Oh? Did I say those words last time in the mall? How come I don’t remember?"
Xu He’s attitude didn’t anger Shuanzi, but instead, one of his subordinates couldn’t stand it and, pointing fiercely at Xu He, bellowed, "Miss Xu, don’t refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit later. If it weren’t for our boss’s mother..."
However, before she could finish her sentence, Shuanzi stopped her, "Hold your tongue."
At this, Xu He’s mind started spinning rapidly. What did the person just say about Shuanzi’s mother? What does Shuanzi’s mother do?
Does Shuanzi’s mother really want a grandson, so now Shuanzi wants a son?
But before Xu He could figure it out, Shuanzi already bluntly stated, "Xu He, we’ve met a few times. I see you’re a sensible person. We don’t need to beat around the bush. In short, if the child is mine, you give birth to it for me, and I’ll give you a sum of money, a sum that will certainly not be small. How about it?"
Upon hearing this, Xu He was not surprised but looked at Shuanzi and smiled faintly, "Does Shuanzi wants the son but not me?"
Shuanzi remained unperturbed, counterasking, "Do you want to follow me?"
Softening her tone, Xu He then looked at him, shook her head, and assumed the posture of a loving mother, "It’s not that I want to follow you, but after all, I’ve carried the child for ten months. You’ve never been involved, my pregnancy has been difficult, and he’s my own son, I want to raise him myself. I won’t sell my son."
