CHAPTER 901: CHAPTER 903: THE LITTLE LAMB HAS A PROBLEM
The night fell quickly, and finally, it was deep into the night when people were sleeping the soundest.
Little Liufu awoke in the middle of the night. Xiaoxiao took care of Little Liufu’s eating, drinking, and other needs; she held him in her arms and fell asleep. Xiaoxiao and Yang Ming also filled their stomachs.
Yang Ming saw it was a good time to escape, so he called everyone to get up.
After everything was ready, everyone squeezed into a room without lighting any wax. Furthermore, Little Shitou’s family was so poor that they didn’t have such things as wax.
Everyone was present, and they remained silent, tacitly following Yang Ming’s lead. They only heard Yang Ming say, "We are about to leave. If you need to use the restroom, hurry up so it won’t be troublesome on the road later."
Everyone nodded and went to the restroom to resolve their needs. After returning, Yang Ming advised again, "Everyone, try not to make any sound. It will take less than the time to burn an incense stick to get to the village entrance, so hold on."
"Okay." Everyone nodded one after another.
Yang Ming continued advising, "Wife, if we are discovered later, take Shitou and his mother and run first."
He then looked at the unfamiliar man, "The two of us will hold off the villagers, as long as one can escape, it’s better than none."
Seeing everyone understood, Yang Ming said, "Then let’s take the things and leave now."
A few people quietly exited the house, fearful of making any noise.
Yang Ming went to lead the little lamb, allowing Shitou’s mother to ride on it, and the unfamiliar man led the lamb while he carried the things they wanted to take away.
Xiaoxiao held the child, Little Shitou followed behind, and the group set off like this.
Heaven seemed to know they were planning to escape; tonight’s moon was especially bright, bright enough to illuminate the countryside path, making it easier for them to walk.
Having scouted the route last night, Yang Ming led the way, guiding everyone, who all held their breath, fearing any noise would awaken the villagers.
Thus, they walked for half the time it takes to burn an incense stick; nothing unexpected happened, and they were overjoyed because soon they would leave Anding Village.
But things don’t always go smoothly; just as they felt they were about to be safe, the little lamb caused trouble.
The little lamb suddenly stopped by the roadside, beginning to eat the weeds there, and the unfamiliar man couldn’t pull it away no matter how he tried.
He whispered in frustration, "Oh dear, don’t cause trouble now. Once we’re out, you can eat all you want."
Hearing the sound, Yang Ming quickly turned back, saw the situation with the little lamb, and was quite helpless; it had been fed beforehand, yet was still so greedy.
He went over and also tried to pull the little lamb, but it still wouldn’t budge. Yang Ming was in a dilemma; abandoning the little lamb would mean his son would go hungry all the way. They hadn’t brought a cooking pot, so they couldn’t make rice porridge or other food for him.
At this moment, Xiaoxiao walked over holding the child, whispering, "Honey, if worse comes to worst, we should ditch the lamb. If the child goes hungry, let him be hungry. As long as we leave the village, we’ll reach the town by tomorrow morning."
Yang Ming thought this was the only option, so he let Shitou’s mother get down, "Sister-in-law, you’ll have to walk on your own."
Shitou’s mother felt a bit embarrassed and softly said after getting off the lamb, "Brother, am I too heavy for the lamb? Now that I’m off, try pulling it again."
