Chapter 926 - 928: The Wedding Procession
CHAPTER 926: CHAPTER 928: THE WEDDING PROCESSION
Anyi Village is actually quite far away, with about a dozen villages between here and there, surrounded by mountains, making the road hard to travel.
It’s not like modern times where villages are densely packed together; here, the distances between villages are quite far.
Even though they were riding in a horse-drawn carriage, it would still take several days to get there.
During breaks on the road, they would inquire about Divine Doctor Xue and Xiaotian if they encountered people.
However, their primary goal was Anyi Village, as there was hope of finding precise information about Divine Doctor Xue only there, while other places offered nothing but blind guesses.
One day, as the child was hungry and needed feeding, Yang Ming stopped the carriage by the roadside.
While they were feeding the child, they suddenly heard the sound of celebratory music not far away.
Curious, Xiaoxiao stuck her head out and excitedly said, "Honey, it’s a bridal procession."
Hearing his wife’s joyous voice, Yang Ming felt a pang of heartache, knowing they hadn’t had such a formal wedding ceremony.
Initially, marrying was just a formality for his prior self, so it didn’t really count with his wife.
His wife probably felt regret too.
"Honey, you feed the baby. I’m going out to have a look."
Xiaoxiao handed the bowl to Yang Ming and leapt off the carriage.
Standing next to the carriage, she watched as the bridal procession slowly drew closer.
Xiaoxiao thought, this procession is likely for a nearby village, using a sedan chair; they would need a carriage for longer distances.
Moreover, the bride must be marrying into a wealthy family, given how complete the musical arrangements were.
Inside the sedan chair sat a girl about thirteen or fourteen years old, her face devoid of the joy a bride usually feels on her wedding day.
Her delicate face was scrunched up, clearly having cried already.
She covered her head with a veil, biting her lower lip tightly, her pale face full of unwillingness.
She occasionally lifted the veil to look outside, seemingly waiting for some opportunity.
Along the way, she had looked out the window numerous times, only to be disappointed each time.
This time, she lifted the curtain again, and unexpectedly met a pair of eyes examining her.
Those eyes made her wild with joy, as if she had grasped a lifeline.
She quickly lifted the curtain on the other side and urgently called out, "Matchmaker, matchmaker, I need to use the latrine."
"Oh dear, young lady, it’s not auspicious for the bride to leave the sedan chair during the journey; endure a little longer, we’re almost there."
The bride feigned unbearable discomfort, clutching her belly, pleading, "Matchmaker, I really can’t hold it any longer, I beg you, let me get down for a moment, please."
"Oh dear, how unlucky. If your husband’s family finds out, who knows what they’ll say. Really, you just left the village, couldn’t you have gone back home earlier?" The matchmaker grumbled disdainfully at the bride.
"Matchmaker, please, I truly can’t endure it anymore." The bride kept pleading; this might be her only chance, she couldn’t give up.
Her eyes brimmed with tears, her pitiable expression fixed on the matchmaker.
The matchmaker had no choice but to halt the sedan chair, "Everyone stop for a moment."
Xiaoxiao was puzzled that the sedan chair had stopped, wondering if they were taking a break just like them.
As the sedan chair halted, the music also paused, because Xiaoxiao heard the matchmaker’s voice, "You guys rest here for a while, I’ll accompany the bride over there to relieve herself."
Then she opened the sedan chair, "Young lady, come down."
"Thank you, matchmaker."
