CHAPTER 374: CHAPTER 375: THE CLEVER TRICKSTER
Grandma Shi stepped out of the car, her smile breezy as she said, "Yes, yes, I heard you’ve composed a new piece of music. How could I not come to have a listen?"
Granny Tang was just about to speak when she suddenly caught sight of the pink figure behind Grandma Shi.
Shi Mei was dressed a bit too warmly, making her look quite chubby.
Her hair was tied into two cute little pigtails, and a pink scarf wrapped her round face, making it appear even more childlike and tender.
Apart from that, she didn’t look much different from how she appeared at the birthday banquet.
Granny Tang recognized her at a glance. Seeing Shi Mei peeking out curiously, Granny Tang couldn’t help but laugh. She waved to her and said, "Come here, come over."
With a warm and affectionate smile in her eyes, Granny Tang looked at her as if she were still a little girl, kind and benevolent.
It was just that her face had unknowingly gathered many more wrinkles, and her hair had turned mostly white.
Shi Mei felt a sourness in her heart as she looked at her own grandmother.
But soon, she firmly clutched her little purse and ran toward her, calling out, "Hello, Granny!"
Granny Tang’s smile was brimming with joy, "Hello to you too."
Shi Mei giggled, full of lively happiness, and exclaimed, "I’ve brought a gift for Granny!"
Following behind, Grandma Shi caught up and heard the remark. Pretending to be irritated, she said, "Oh you little girl, you never bring me any gifts at home, and now you’ve even prepared a little present for your Granny Tang? What have you got there?"
Shi Mei, righteous even if not entirely justifiable, retorted, "I see Grandma every day at home, so I don’t prepare any gifts, but Granny Tang is different, you know!"
Saying so, Shi Mei took out a pair of knee pads from her pocket.
The embroidery on them was delicate and beautiful, with a unique pattern that was both graceful and fresh. More importantly, they were very thick yet didn’t look cumbersome, and the craftsmanship was extremely meticulous.
When Granny Tang received the knee pads, she paused for a moment, then instinctively glanced at Shi Mei.
Shi Mei was smiling happily, like proudly presenting a treasure. "I bought these while shopping with Ye Bao, they’re really pretty."
"Ye Bao?"
"It’s Ye Tiao," Grandma Shi chimed in to clarify, "Ye Tiao and our Shi Mei get along well and often go out together." As she spoke, Grandma Shi tapped Shi Mei’s forehead, "But how did you think to buy this? It happens to be just right since Granny Tang’s knees feel the cold. It’s perfect for her."
"Really?" Shi Mei danced around joyfully, "That’s wonderful, hee hee hee."
"You clever imp," Grandma Shi smiled fondly, "quickly ask Granny Tang if she likes it."
"Yeah, do you like it, Granny?" Shi Mei’s face was full of expectation. "I think they’re beautiful, just as lovely as Granny Tang."
Granny Tang’s aged hands gently caressed the knee pads. The embroidery of a dragon and a phoenix taking flight was exactly to her taste, lifelike and flawless in every detail.
Ever since Xiao Wu had left, she hadn’t received such a heartwarming gift.
Especially hearing Shi Mei’s sweet and adorable voice, Granny Tang couldn’t stop smiling and said, "I love them. Granny really loves them. You’re so thoughtful, Shi Mei."
"Oh my, what’s this gift?" Grandpa Tang came over, teasing, "Why just gift Granny Tang, and not Grandpa Tang, huh?"
