Chapter 184: The witch’s scent.
CHAPTER 184: THE WITCH’S SCENT.
Her voice echoed through the chaos.
"The arrival of the Witch God shook nations, as many feared and hated her. My father, being the only one with the blessing of the Dragon Monarch, took the battle into his own hands and fought with the Witch God all by himself."
As she spoke, Revina paid close attention to how easily Maria was laying waste to her knights as though they were nothing. That didn’t stop her from continuing.
"Of course, my ancestor laid waste to her, with his life ending as the aftermath. Still, the witch was dead. Or so we thought. Despite the life-threatening injury she got from Faja, the witch was still intent on finding the Dragon Monarch."
At this point, Revina began to stride forward, planning to take the battle into her own hands.
"Just when humanity had lost all hope, the gods came down from their realm, intending on locking the Witch God up for not only killing numbers of them but also coming down to the human realm, which was against their rules."
Clank!
Revina charged to the back, launching a fast attack towards Maria from the rear using the white blazing sword. Maria reacted just as quickly as the attack was thrown.
She blocked the strike, only to keep hearing Revina’s rambling following right after as they fought.
"In order to escape the gods and their retribution for her sins, the Witch God did the unexpected and escaped through a portal. Never to be seen again."
Maria finally spoke.
"I should be happy you are telling me all this, but is this something you should be telling a regular person like myself, Your Majesty?" She shoved Revina back to create some space for herself.
"Oh, this is something I know you would love to hear yourself."
Baam!
She charged back forward, slamming right into Maria, only to charge to the side, running the opposite way from where Maria was running as well.
"Everyone wondered where the witch had gone to. Where could the portal have gone? And for years, no one knew where she went. She was untraceable. For someone with a special mana like that, the gods could easily sniff her out, and yet, no one knew where she was. It was as though she was dead."
Maria grabbed Revina’s hand and pulled her close. "Are you saying the witch faked her death? Pretty obvious since we all saw her."
"Precisely. We did. The witch is very much alive. But how was she able to come to show herself so easily, and yet her mana was still not traceable? Makes no sense if you think about it."
Maria frowned a bit. She could not understand where the King was heading with this, but she knew for a fact she didn’t like it.
Pulling Revina even closer, she tried to land a quick kick to her chest, but Revina saw it coming and immediately summoned her knights to act as a shield for her.
As soon as the shield was formed, Revina flash-stepped to the side, her blade stretched out with white mana surging around it as she got ready to slash Maria.
"The only explanation is that she found a way to split her essence into multiple sources so she could not be tracked so easily."
Kaboom!
As soon as the power-charged blade landed on Maria, she stopped it with the back of her hand, allowing the explosion to destroy the entire surrounding area while leaving her unharmed.
By the time the dust cleared and Revina saw Maria still standing there with a serious look on her face, she smiled, then leaped back.
"The Witch God was known for doing many extraordinary things; this is not far from what she is capable of," she spoke.
"A few years back, one of the top mages made a theory that the witch had somehow transported herself to another world entirely, which made a lot of sense since she had been doing the exact same thing for a while before then."
Revina pointed her blade at Maria and went on.
"No other god was capable of attaining this particular feat. No one could travel to a distant world just by thinking about it, no one but the Witch of Evernight. Which led to the next theory: if she were to come back to this world, her mana would be spotted right away by the gods."
There was a pause.
"And yet, for years, no one has seen or sensed her coming, but one thing was certain: the witch’s scent was found on people, strong enough that they were executed on the spot.
She was somehow turning people into witches while remaining hidden. At first, it was easy to smell it on people, but with time, she became so good that only a specific number of people could smell it. I am a great example, even though it is only recently that I noticed."
A frown played on her face.
"Maria Gardina. You have had contact with the witch. Have you not?"
Maria’s eyes glowed a faint red light as she stared Revina down. Silence took over almost instantly.
Revina waited for a response that never came, and soon realized Maria had no intention of playing along anymore. Which only confirmed her theory even more.
"Having the witch’s scent does not necessarily mean you have had a meeting with the Witch God. It simply means she has her eyes on you or you have been to a place strong with her mana. I only asked that question as a way to test you. But judging from your reaction..."
Revina still kept her blade aimed at Maria.
"It would seem you did have an encounter with the Witch God Yahoshi, didn’t you? Maria Gardina."
Not a single word left Maria’s mouth, only a slight glow and thoughts racing at the back of her mind as she focused her gaze on the King.
Her fist wrapped around the hilt of her balde, as her eyes further lit up, her feet daring to lift from the ground.
