Reborn as the Third Prince: To Build and Conquer my way to Royalty.
Chapter 88: Money that can’t be bought.
CHAPTER 88: MONEY THAT CAN’T BE BOUGHT.
Good day, people of Linye. This message is directly written by your prince, Sylus Von Astrodial. As you all know, there have been a few changes in the city since I decided to take over as the new ruler.
Because of this, I can understand why some things may be a bit confusing, but you need not worry; everything I do is for the betterment of this city. In a span of three days, I will be taking in new workers willing to work for the city’s growth. Mind you, this is also a good way to earn a living.
Every town will have a designated station where you can register your name for whatever position you wish to carry out. be it builder, miner, blacksmith, farmer, or whatever the case may be. All you need to do is fill out your name, and you will be given a badge if you are qualified.
Once that is done, tasks will be assigned to you for the month. Successfully complete them, and you will be paid a minimum of 200 gold pieces monthly and 3 gold pieces daily, depending on the progress of each individual.
Remember, whatever you do is solely for the betterment of the kingdom.
...
This message was plastered all around Linye, and just as Sylus had intended, young men between the ages of 14 and 40 took to the streets to sign up for the job.
No one wanted to miss out on a chance to start earning three gold coins a day, which would be enough to feed them for three whole days. The older men did the same, although they received a less demanding workload.
But of all things, Zani was truly shocked when she found out about the flyers, and it wasn’t just her.
Alfred had the same reaction when he saw it.
They were both standing in front of Sylus’s working table, with Zani holding the paper out toward her prince.
"My lord, what is this?"
Sylus raised his head to look at her. "My message to the people—what is confusing about it?"
Zani, unable to give a response, simply turned her gaze to Alfred, urging him to speak up instead.
And he did, although his voice was trembling.
"My lord, the budget we get monthly is only one million gold coins. I’m afraid it will not be enough to cover the numerous people taking this job. I beg of you to reconsider."
"Eh? That’s really the amount Mother is choosing to give me monthly?" Sylus’s eyes widened, though he quickly calmed himself.
’The Astrodial company brings in more than 500 million gold coins weekly; I doubt Mother would mind if I take more for myself. There shouldn’t be a problem there.’
He finally replied to Alfred, "No need to worry about that; I’ll get the funds from Mother to pay the daily wages of the workers. The monthly, on the other hand, has to come from my own hard work."
Alfred looked at Zani, and she did the same to him. An unspoken message was shared: they were anxious about whatever Sylus was doing.
"Before coming here, I saw a huge number of people gathered at the station to apply for a job. How many do you think will do that, and how much will be needed?" Zani asked.
Sylus hummed for a while.
"A population of over 54,000 people—let’s say only an estimate of 24,000 people register, which is very generous, then around 2 million gold coins will be needed daily. If we take into account the monthly wages as well, that should be around 8 million gold coins."
Both Zani and Alfred were frozen in shock just from hearing the outrageous numbers.
More so, Zani, mainly because never in her life had she heard someone casually say such a huge sum of money out loud as if it were nothing.
A sum like that would change her whole life—hell, it would change the lives of everyone in Thornmere.
She looked to the side, her eyes watering. "My lord really does say the craziest things sometimes."
Alfred nodded his head, he too almost crying.
Though Sylus didn’t pay them any mind after that. He had turned his attention back to the paper, allowing his two subordinates to discuss with each other.
Actually, Sylus had not gotten a wink of sleep since last night; the only reason he had not developed any eye bags was because Sophia was sleeping inside him.
As long as she was resting, he could never get tired that easily. But the moment she woke up, all the fatigue would come raining down on him.
Another reason why he was in a hurry to finish up what he was doing.
So far, he had been able to decipher where each of the Korean letters would go, and slowly, the letter structure and sentences were starting to make sense.
For example, the first paragraph was as follows:
"Remember the entrance as the keys on a piano; one tune meets the other for a perfect harmony. I wish for a music note 1."
And then the second paragraph was even more confusing; it said:
"The stars align at the right time; be the friendly moon or the raging sun, two of which understand one another to be beautiful. I want a star."
The third one followed the same pattern:
"I am lost and not found; my world seems shallow on the inside. I don’t like being empty; I want a heart I can trust."
And then finally, a few Korean characters that Sylus was working on had a little bit of a turn compared to the previous paragraphs:
"Each wish has a physical manifestation. I wish not real but seen, placed—"
And right there, Sylus was still yet to figure out the rest of the message.
Sylus is working on deciphering a complex message with cryptic paragraphs.
His patience and constant learning finally paid off; he had single-handedly solved the language barrier and figured out a way to open the barrier blocking the entrance of the cave.
