"Young Miss, I know you want us to make a good impression on these people, but would you mind if I have a go at them? For some reason, I feel ticked off after what happened."

Mary's temper looked like it was about to break, and she would go on a rampage.

Mary had sometimes lost her temper, but it had never been this bad…usually.

But right now, Mary was clenching her fists, and she looked ready to take down the door with the axe she was gripping in her hands.

"Let it go. I don't want to create any drama. Besides, the door does not have a lock. We can just twist the handle and enter it."

Layla pointed this out before she twisted the handle on the door, which swung open. She had noticed this detail when she had seen the man close the door behind him—there had been no sound of the door being locked.

*Sigh*

"Can you be a little less peace-loving, young Miss? I want to curb my blood-lust, but how will I be successful if you continue being like this?"

Mary asked in a regretful voice before she followed after Mary and entered the place behind her young miss.

Layla opened the door quite loudly, and everyone turned toward her.

The first one to walk toward them was the glasses-wearing man who slammed the door in her face. He had a slight frown as he looked at Layla's strict expression.

"Hey, kid, I already told you that this is not a place for you to be. Now, head home before you make me angry."

The man tried to intimidate Layla by buffing up his chest and trying to appear bigger than he already was.

With how everyone looked at that man, Layla was sure he had great influence in this place. He might even be the leader she needed to talk to.

Seeing how Layla did not bulge, the leader became increasingly nervous until he could not take it anymore and decided to ask Layla what she wanted again.

"What do you want, kid? If you are not going to leave, name your price and leave. We have too much work and no time to entertain you."

Layla looked around the Labor Union's office and noticed they had a lot of work. But despite their work, the place looked run-down and did not have a good environment.

Everyone looked hungry and on the verge of collapsing. But the people here had no choice but to work whatever worked.

This union was formed of academy graduates who were neither nobles nor gifted enough to catch someone's eye, get a scholarship, and get a stable job.

In simpler words, these people were the ones who lacked money but not talent. And sometimes, that lack of money was enough to make someone's life miserable.

"I want to commission you all to work for me for the next few months. You will be given reasonable work hours and decent pay. Those who are interested can take a look at this contract before deciding."

Layla snapped her fingers, signaling Mary to extend a copy of the contract to the leader of these people.

The man instantly frowned as he looked Layla in the eye before he took the contract.

"Look, kid, no matter how much you try to sugarcoat your words, you are all but a child. There is not anything you can do for us that would be truly meaningful. Next time, why don't you bring an adult to have this talk."

The union leader did not even glance at the work contract Layla was giving him.

He had no intention of reading it or checking it out. While it was good to be cautious, this cautiousness hurt this man and everyone dependent on him.

"Hey, be careful with how you talk to my young miss! She is doing you all a favor by coming here and offering you work. If you don't want to agree, we have other places to offer this contract. You aren't the only one who can do this work."

Mary's passive-aggressiveness left the man speechless. He knew that Mary was right when she called him out.

Her words bruised not only his ego but also the ego of the people around him who prided themselves on being the best.

"Mary, let it be. This is their decision and, ultimately, their future as well. We can only offer them what we have. I hope you will look at what this is and then decide. I will eagerly await your decision."

Layla spoke these last words before leaving a few copies of the contract behind and leaving.

As soon as the door closed behind her, the Union Leader scoffed before throwing the contract Layla had given him on the table before him.

"Tsk, this is all a scam! How dare that noble try and scam us? Does she think all of this world is fun and games just because she wants it to be? She should know better at her age!"

The union leader cursed before he stormed out of the place to cool his head.

His employees looked at each other before their gazes turned toward the contract that had been left behind.

One of them reached out to grab the contract and read it. The more he read it, the wider his eyes became, and he looked jaw-slacked.

"T-This is…a really good deal. It's almost too good to be real! Sick leave, regular working shifts, and even maternity pay? I have never heard of an employer offering all this!"

"There is also a performance bonus for the people who need it. It is too good to be true."

"So, it is a scam, after all! Ugh, and here I got my hopes about having a well-paying job. I guess it is back to harsh work for us all."

The more these union workers read about this contract, the more suspicious they became. No way would anyone offer such good conditions without providing something in return…. right?
