Reborn as the Villain in a Romance Fantasy
Chapter 143: Ch 143: What can we help with? - Part 1
Keith felt bad enough for his actions, but he was not convinced that the business he had trashed was legit.
He had never heard such praises for a business owned by a noble before, and it made Keith wonder if the nobles had cast some kind of magic on these townspeople to sing praises about him.
Otherwise, different people won't have such a big difference between their impressions of the business.
'I cannot sense any magical spell that has been cast, but maybe it is so powerful that I cannot. I should see Dark Elves check for myself if the business owner is a good person or if I am being fooled once more.'
Keith made up his mind, and he stood up.
The alcohol in his system made him swing on his feet, but Keith was able to keep his focus on walking straight and getting out of the place.
Once out, he took a deep breath to clear his head, but his eyes instantly met with a pair of young but sharp ones.
Those eyes looked so old and scary that Keith felt his breath hitch before he realized he was looking at a six-year-old girl and getting scared because of her.
The young noble lady had a pink-haired maid behind her, and she had an odd smile.
Forget her smile; everything about that maid looked odd and scary.
Her outside facade was beautiful, but Keith's instincts told him that this was one scary person he needed to stay away from.
Keith tightened his grip on his sword as he faced the pair heads-on. He tried to walk past them, but the kid spoke up just as he got close enough.
"Excuse me, mister! We have a few questions for you. I heard that you took great care of my staff for me. I want to pay you back for it."
The kid spoke softly, but hearing it sent chills down Keith's back. Every word seemed cutting sharp, and Keith felt his grip falter around his sword slightly.
"I don't know what you are talking about, kid! I have never seen you before, much less know about your business or how I affected it. I think you have the wrong person."
Keith insisted, but he could tell the pair in front of him did not believe him.
'At this rate, I must attack this pair to get away safely. I doubt they could stop me if I use my power.'
Keith was ready to attack, but he did not see the maid move at all.
Before he knew what was happening, the maid twisted his arm behind his back, and Keith felt his arm throbbing.
Still, since all Keith had was his strength, he decided to break free from her grip and reach for his sword.
"Tsk, do you think you are tough or something? You only have the upper hand because you took me by surprise. I will show you what real strength is soon-"
Keith promised, but just as he went to grab the sword, Layla threw a potion between him and the sword.
The potion that landed on the sword absorbed the magic and bounced it back. It also flung Keith back, and there was nothing he could do in time.
"Looks like this sword is not under your control yet. The seal has not even been broken. But that's a matter for another time. We are here to grab you and bring you to justice.
Mary, carry that man and that sword as well. We will take them both back."
Layla ordered, and Mary grabbed the half-unconscious man and picked him up easily.
But when it came to the sword, she reached for it but stopped.
The divine aura from the sword made her hesitate to grab it. But even when she tried to grab the rock it rested on, Mary could not pick it up.
"Young miss, I don't think I have what it takes to return this sword. There is some kind of spell that is preventing me from being able to grab it. What should we do now?"
Mary asked, and finally, Layla's mind started to work again.
She now remembered this sword and its significance in the original story.
'Ah, now I remember this sword! It belonged to Adam and was a plot device used when he and Rosette found that hidden magic-stone cave filled with monsters.'
Of course, in the original work of fantasy, the female lead used her powers to purify that place and then earned the mine. But such a thing would not happen this time.
Thanks to Keith, Layla had found the cave—or rather, she was about to find out where that magic stone cave was.
But first, she needed to get rid of this sword that had landed in the middle of the road. And she knew exactly how to get rid of it.
She took out a small magically enchanted paper and delivered a message to Rosette. The female lead would bring Adam here, and he could pull this sword out.
Even if this were not the sword she was thinking about, the male lead's halo would be strong enough to get this sword.
'Should I try my luck once as well? Now that my reliance on magic has been reduced, I need another powerful weapon to defend myself. This sword can be good for that-'
Layla reached out and tried to pull that sword out. But she was neither disappointed nor surprised when the sword did not even bulge. It remained where it was, and the pair waited for Rosette and Adam to come.
The pair from the temple arrived not long after, and Adam looked sulky when he saw Layla.
"So, what have you called us here to do this time? It better be worth it because I missed my training for this crap-"
Rosette smacked Adam harshly so that he would stop speaking before she turned toward Layla with her bright expression.
"What can we help you with? You can count on us to do anything you would like."
