Reborn as the Villain in a Romance Fantasy
Chapter 145: Ch 145: What can we help with? - Part 3
"Young Miss Layla, what a pleasure to have you here with me. But I am afraid that I cannot call out Raziel now. He is a little busy with his training at the moment."
The older male in front of Layla made a sorry face as he looked at her.
Even though he made a guilty face, his voice gave away how happy and cheerful he was to be here, telling Layla 'no.'
"It's fine! I am not here to see Raziel here today. I am here to see you. Do you have a few minutes to spare for me, Cardinal?"
Layla asked politely.
She could tell the Cardinal was trying to egg her on, but she would not fall for it. The cardinal would have to try harder than this to make Layla lose her composure.
"I see! So, you won't fall for my tricks anymore, huh? You break this old man's heart! But since you especially came here to meet me, I should hear you out. So, tell me why you wanted to see me."
The older man asked, his expression focused on Layla and amused at the same time. He was waiting for Layla to tell him what made her come here.
"I need you to teach Raziel how to mass purify an area. Or rather, it would be better to give him a seal using his aura to mass purify an area as big as this temple. Do you think you can do that?"
Layla asked without blinking an eye, and Cardinal Bishop's eyebrows went up before he could mask his surprise.
"Oh my! That is a big thing you are asking. I don't mind drafting that seal, but are you sure that kid is up to it?
To purify an area as big as this temple is no small deal. It would require someone to burn through a massive supply of divine power…"
The cardinal tried to make Layla back down or ask him for help. But Layla knew there was no need for her to do that.
The original work had specifically gone out of its way to mention how massive Raziel's divine reserves were.
He had more than adult Rosette even when he was a child, but he had never used them well (why would he do that when he was not the male lead?).
It was good news for Layla because she could rely on Raziel.
"I know Raziel can do it, so I do not need to ask you. I will talk with him later about this as well. For now, you should do as you are told to."
Layla pressed the Cardinal to stop asking her these questions.
She did not say this with her mouth, but her meaning was clear enough.
The cardinal could not argue with her logic or her conviction about Raziel's powers. He realized he couldn't fool Layla about Raziel's powers.
"I get it! Since you already know what you want, I won't keep you waiting long. I have a few of these seals already painted and imbued with my power here. If you are in danger, you can also call for me with these."
The Cardinal handed Layla four papers, which she pocketed. She was sure she would need them in the future.
The Cardinal continued to look at Layla the whole time, waiting for her to tell him more about what was happening. But Layla never did that, causing the Cardinal to look unhappy. But at least he was mature enough not to complain about it.
Raziel came back after an hour and looked ready to collapse.
He almost threw his body on the sofa before noticing Layla and straightening his back to show he was not falling asleep while studying.
"Miss, when did you come here? I mean, it is nice to have you here. Is there anything I can help you with?"
The child asked in a tough but hopeful voice, and Layla did not disappoint this time.
"I am here for you today. We will be leaving town shortly, so I thought I should grab you before Mary comes for us. You should rest until we leave."
Raziel looked ready to collapse, but he tried to argue with Layla about it.
"Miss, I am fine! I can still move-"
"Stop trying to act tough, kid. Have you seen your legs? They look ready to collapse any second. You should not try to act like this in front of others, alright?"
Saintess Cana smacked Raziel in the back, and Raziel's legs finally collapsed, and he went down.
The day's exhaustion finally caught up with the kid, and he fell asleep. It happened so fast that no one could complain.
"It seems you are taking 'good care' of my servant. I am happy you find Raziel worth training with everything you have."
Layla's voice was filled with as much annoyance as gladness. She felt thankful as well as annoyed at the same time.
"Well, it is an honor to be held in such a high regard by someone like you, Miss Layla. We could achieve even more if you leave Raziel with us longer."
Saints Cana let out a fake laugh, but her desire to train and shape Raziel was real. It made Layla feel sorry for the kid serving her, but she also knew it was for Raziel's good.
"We will see about that in the future as long as you are ready to help Raziel; that is all that matters to me."
Layla finished the tea and waited for Raziel to wake up before returning home.
Mary was done by the time Layla returned, and the older woman had made all the preparations to head out.
"Young Miss, we should get ready to head out now. I have also contacted some master alchemists and wordsmiths to work with us on your one-of-a-kind weapon."
Now that Layla's usage and reliance on magic were limited, she needed a new way of protection, and this seemed like the logical way for her to head toward it.
