Reborn as the Villain in a Romance Fantasy
Chapter 157: Ch 157: You got Lucky - Part 2
'Ah, I finally remember who this person is supposed to be. He was an extra introduced later in the story once Rosette started to expand her business. This kid was named Robert and was one of the best spies in the information guild.'
Layla remembered the details of the original story, and now she felt glad that she had stopped Mary from killing this kid.
He would come to be useful to her in the future.
It was about two years before the main information guild was formed, and the main characters used that place to get information. The one person famous for getting any information you wanted was described as a handsome red-haired and blue-eyed male.
This kid matched the description perfectly; now, Layla only needed to know his name.
"Miss, do we have to let him go? He tried to steal from you, and I don't like it. This makes my hand itch to kill something."
Mary spoke in a pouty voice, but she did let Robert go.
As soon as the kid touched the ground, he gripped his throat and took in greedy breaths that made him sigh.
Once he had his fitting under control, the kid looked at Layla and Mary as if they were demons.
'Tsk, this is the worst first impression I could have left on such a useful person. It looks like I will have to do some damage control now.'
Layla sighed before she gestured for Raziel to step forward. The divide power user was a few years younger than Robert but was just as tall as the information seller.
"Raziel, please heal that kid for me."
Layla asked, and Raziel looked irritated. He said he did not want to waste his precious divine energy on an unknown threat.
But Layla had asked him for this favor, so he followed her lead and healed the other teenager.
Robert blinked as all the pain in his body went away, and he felt like a new person. It was a feeling he had never experienced before.
He had been too poor to go to a proper doctor and afraid to go to the temple to ask for healing. He was an orphan with nowhere to go but a strong will to survive.
"Now that you are healed, I will give you two choices - you can either become the prisoner of Duke Lockhart and live the rest of your days in confinement. Or, you can work under me and get paid to help me out.
And don't worry! I won't ask you to do anything tiresome, either. It is something you are already good at. Come to the Lockhart estate and head to the Dark Elf village if you decide."
Layla handed the kid an introduction card.
She did not have a business card to hand out, but she did have things she could be identified by.
The kid looked at the card Layla gave him with distrust, but he reached out to grab it with shaky hands.
That was all Layla wanted from the kid before she stood up and dusted her clothes.
"I will hopefully see you around later, kid. I hope you make the right decision. But if you don't…then who knows what will happen to you."
Mary warned as she turned to walk away after her miss. Raziel was the last to leave, but his strong gaze tried to convey the message that it was safe for the street kid to trust Layla about this.
Once the trio was done, Robert looked down at the card he had given, and felt conflicted. He did not know if it was a good idea for him to believe in this card, but one thing was sure- he wanted to think that he could turn his life around.
...
"Miss Layla, you should have allowed us to kill that thief. He dared to steal from you! I don't like this."
Mary looked angry, and Layla was slightly surprised at the shift in emotions compared to when she met Raziel.
"I don't mind it. To be honest, most of the people around me tried to kill me at one point or another. There will be no point in me holding all these grudges I cannot keep up with."
Layla confessed with a sigh, and Mary almost flinched before she caught herself in time.
"I see. Now that I think about it, that did happen. Our young miss must have an aura that makes people want to pick up a fight with her. How admirable!"
Mary praised her, and Layla felt her mouth suddenly dry.
Layla almost laughed out loud at the insult Mary had unintentionally hurled at her, but she stopped to pay attention to the crowd that had gathered in front of a small shop.
There were females of all kinds and shapes, and Layla wanted to check out what was happening.
Her instincts told her it would be important for her to know, so Layla used her small size to wiggle her way to the front.
"This is the genuine thing, miss! Once you try it, you will see how well this product works. I cannot tell you what is in this, but I promise this product is the real deal."
The seller boasted as he held up a familiar bottle in his hands. It was the skin-care products Layla had been selling for some time.
She ensured that no one could bulk buy, but some people had found a way around it.
'What a scam! I cannot complain about this since I don't have a shop in Port Osmos. But I should still check these products to see how well they work. I don't want resellers to make a mess of my brand.'
Layla nodded to herself before she reached out to grab a bottle to check it over. But as soon as her hand touched the bottle, the reseller grabbed her hand and looked at her hard.
His eyes looked angry and when he opened his mouth, his voice thundered.
