"There is no point in trying to talk to any more of these shopkeepers. We should first catch the root of this problem if we want to resolve it."

Layla ordered, and the trio finally reunited and headed toward Minister Calam's mansion.

The guard did not bother stopping them, almost as if he knew the trio would be arriving. That lack of concern was alarming, but Layla did not show suspicion.

She made it to the mansion's front gate before being interrupted.

"Excuse me, miss, but can I get an introduction about yourself and what you are doing here? I am the butler that belongs to Minister Calam's household and I am responsible for ensuring no unauthorized person enters the mansion."

The butler asked in a kind voice, and he even spoke in a way that made it seem like he was humoring Layla by talking to her.

Mary almost stepped forward to duel with the butler when Layla stopped her.

Facing a kid was not a big deal, but the feeling suddenly became nerve-wracking when that kid was someone like Layla. The butler could not tell why he felt nervous, but he suddenly knew that something had changed in the air.

"I am here to see Minister Calam. Can you not drag all this out and call for him quickly? I am not in a good mood today, so there is no telling what I might do if my demands are unmet."

Layla informed the butler and noticed how the butler staggered, unable to decide what to tell her anymore.

The sweat on his brows made it clear that the butler was in a pinch, but he quickly recovered and decided to tell Layla his rehearsed line that he said anyone like her.

"I am afraid that master is not. He has not returned from the imperial palace but will be here soon. If you can only wait for a bit…"

The minister asked in a small voice, wanting the trio to understand.

Layla stood up as soon as she heard that excuse. She had some hope for this place before coming, but not anymore.

"I see! If that is the case, then it cannot be helped. I hope your master arrives in the pink of health because he won't be this happy for long."

It was a threat that made the butler cringe and looked at Layla with serious eyes.

"Young Lady, you-"

The butler started to speak, but Mary interrupted him by placing herself in front of him with a smile. This way, she blocked the butler from being able to look at her young miss in any way.

"I am afraid I cannot allow you to look at my young miss for too long. It is considered bad manners from where I am from."

Mary smiled, but it was a challenging smile toward the other butler to try and defeat her.

The human butler looked startled before he gritted his teeth subtly and backed off. This was the end of the confrontation…for now.

Whatever was about to happen next, no one knew. But Layla knew that they should not start a fight here.

"Mary, we are heading out now. There are more places we need to head to."

Layla reminded her maid, and Mary gracefully bowed and took her leave behind her young miss. The human butler watched them go with tense eyes.

Usually, the butler would have considered this as his win and not felt as awkward as he did. But he could not calm himself down because he had heard Mary's threat and thought something was about to happen.

'I better inform Minister Calam about this. I feel it will be much more difficult to deal with these people than I first anticipated.'

The butler clenched his fist before taking out the magical parchment he had bought in tons to exchange letters with the Minister. He quickly penned down what happened and sent the letter.

But little did he know that his letter would be intercepted as soon as it left the mansion.

Mary jumped high and grabbed the flying letter before it could leave her attack range.

"Hmm, you were right, Miss! The minister tried to send words to his master as soon as we left him alone. How did you know this was going to happen? I am quite impressed with your insight."

Mary asked in a grinning voice as she fluttered the letter around. It helped drip the magic off the parchment, and she opened the letter to check the contents.

Inside were the warnings the butler was giving to the minister about Layla and her maid.

It was a well-written letter, but it did not have any important information.

This letter could only tell the trio where the minister likely was.

"Miss Layla, would you mind if I left your side for a little bit? I need to follow this letter to see where it is headed. I will send you a message if I can find anything."

Mary promised before she turned around and left after the letter. This would solve one of the problems.

"Raziel, we should head toward the resistance's base. Did you make any contact with them about the deal I proposed?"

Layla asked, and the divine magic user quickly bowed to her in the affirmative.

"Of course, Miss! I contacted them as soon as I could regarding what happened. They are eager to meet you and discuss further what we need to do to bring the Minister and Imperial power down in the Port city."

Raziel assured Layla and the confirmation brought a small smirk to Layla's face. She looked eager to be able to cause mayhem in this place.

"Excellent! It is time for us to show the world what true terror is. Soon, Port Osmos will see a rebellion like this world has never seen before."

Layla spoke in a serious voice that left no room for any misinterpretation. She was planning to cause mayhem, after all.
