The guard bravely stood guard between his master and Rosette. He was sure a delicate-looking lady like Rosette would treat him kindly and back down once she was pressed a little.

He had seen females like her before and was well-versed in how they dealt with them. They looked fierce on the outside, but this was to hide the delicate heart they all had on the inside.

The guard was willing to take this bet and attacked Rosette's attention.

But much to his surprise and shock, Rosette did not even spare him a glance as she kept looking behind him at the Duke.

Murderous intent filled her eyes as she continued to try and exert her dominance over this issue. Her hand also grabbed the guard's face and squeezed it harshly.

"Get out of my way. I do not have time to waste on kids like you. If I see you trying to stop me again, your face getting disfigured would be the least of your worries. Did I make myself clear?"

Rosette asked, and the guard felt his life flash before his eyes. He was sure he would die any second now.

He quickly nodded to show that he understood what was being said and agreed with the female. So Rosette let go of his face rather harshly before she turned to look at the surprised Duke in front of her.

"Train your dog better, and do not allow it to bark at the wrong place. Now, head back and leave us alone. Also, stop sending your emails to Duke Lockhart's mansion to talk to Lady Layla. She will not tolerate this harassment."

Rosette made it clear that Daidus's actions were not appreciated.

Layla did not remember ever saying these words, so she was sure that Rosette was making this all up alone.

Duke Daidus had the same thought behind his eyes as he made a scoffing noise when he looked at Rosette.

"Is that something you decided on your own? I am sure someone like Layla won't ever turn donw my letter and offers. It is all your fault she never got messages from me, right? And that was before what happened to her.

If you are going to black me from her life, then at least allow me to see her unconscious body."

The duke complained. Rosette's eyes hardened even further.

"No! And that is final. Besides, Lady Layla's body has disappeared from where we placed her, and we have to try and find it now. I do not have time to sit back and chit-chat with you. I need to head back to trying to find her."

Rosette had made up her mind and turned her back to the Duke. Adam slapped his forehead as he watched Rosette make this mistake before walking away.

He knew the female would blame herself and curse for what happened. She was somehow too hardworking and had failed to keep Lady Layla's condition a secret.

"Wait! What do you mean her body disappear? How did you lose her and…come back here."

The Duke sounded shocked and pissed as he ran after Rosette to get more information out of her. But the faster he ran, the faster Rose ran as well. Layla turned to follow Rosette when she felt her wrist being grabbed, and she was pulled back into a hard chest.

Her halting caused Rosette and Adam to turn back as well. And Rosette did not look happy about Layla's arm being grabbed.

"Excuse me, but do you want something from me? I am rather busy, so would you let go now?"

Layla asked as she tried to yank her arm out of that grip. But Daidus had a tight grip on Layla's wrist, and his expression looked serious.

"Rosette from Lockhart Dukedom, I will help you with your task. But in return, I want you to give me this guard. There is something familiar about him that makes me curious. I promise I will take good care of him, so why don't we make a trade? As far as I know, you have nothing to lose by agreeing to my terms."

The Duke asked in a small voice. He seemed determined to have Layla as his guard at all costs.

His words made Rosette pause and look at her back. Her eyes looked troubled, and she shook her hands to hold herself back.

"Excuse me, but can you repeat what you just said? I think I made a mistake in hearing what you said. You see, I am a little hard of hearing these days. I am afraid that I might be getting sick."

Rosette looked angry at the suggestion, and her hands were fisted into small fists to hide her anger and disappointment. She was ready to throw her hands if needed.

Seeing her like this made the Duke's guard cringe, but the Duke looked unbothered. He dealt with his council, which was ten times more demanding and effective at getting him to do what they wanted. It did not scare the Duke that he had to take care of Rosette's mood and answer her.

"Of course, my lady. I will tell you how many times you want me to. I am asking for your guard to be transferred to me. In return, I will allow you to search through my territory in the neighboring nation and also allow you help if you need it."

The Duke offered, and his offer was a no-brainer. Rosette and Adam could not refuse it.

Despite that, Rosette had all the intentions of refusing this offer and not wanting to do anything with this man. She was ready to open her mouth when Adam rubbed his forehead and decided to speak up.

"Excuse me, but don't you think we are forgetting something important? We should ask the person involved about all this and what he wants to do. How can you two decide independently without even considering our guard's thoughts?

He did ask to accompany us to the Lockhart Dukedom."
