Reborn as the Villain in a Romance Fantasy
Chapter 229: Ch 229: Do you feel bothered - Part 1
Henry had grown up to be a splendid man, so that was what he thought of himself. But he had never grown out of his angry and jealous phase. Even now, he could not take it when someone made fun of him.
However, temper management improved with time. The man no longer attacked outright when he faced someone who angered him. Instead, he chose to bid his time and let the other person wallow in fear for a little bit.
Following the same process, he gave Layla room to make her feel nervous. He was sure that Layla would soon start to show signs of being uncomfortable and give up how she looked at him.
'Ah, I was told that Layla was unconscious for the longest time; mentally, she should still be around six years old. If I make her too uncomfortable, then she will leave soon. I just need not to give in…'
The man promised himself as he continued to eat his food. He was not bothered by Layla until now, but he was sure that Layla was annoyed by his lack of attention.
He decided to pick his head and look at her to check his theory. But Layla continued to eat her food, not paying attention to what he was doing.
The more Henry saw this, the more his heart boiled in anger and annoyance. He realized he would not be able to take it anymore, and he pushed his chair back before standing up.
It was an unconscious action he had not meant to do. Having everyone's attention on him now made his face turn a little red.
"Brother Henry, are you alright? Did you remember something urgent that you need to do?"
A kid asked Henry, giving him an excuse to make his exit. Seeing that he had a reason now, Henry coughed into his hand and decided to take that graceful exit option.
"You are right! I am a little busy today, so I need to head out. I hope you all have a nice dinner. Layla, it is nice to have you back but tell me how long you plan to stay here. I will prepare things accordingly.
Also, you might need a new room because your previous room was given to someone else. But I am sure you won't throw a tantrum and demand your room back."
Henry asked in a kind voice. But behind his kindness hid his true intention of alienating Layla.
The older male had worked hard to unify this house under his umbrella, and these kids listened to him first and foremost. They won't betray him, no matter what. And if Layla decided to try and go against him, these kids would also take care of her.
"I understand, brother. Ah, but don't worry! I have no intention of bothering you or these kids soon. I won't even stay the night. I just want to take a look around this place. I am sure that you won't deny me this much freedom?"
Layla's smile spelled trouble. The more Henry saw her smile, the more his emotions felt on edge. He felt that he should run away and not look back.
'How ridiculous! I am feeling threatened by a kid half my age and size. I will not allow that to happen.'
Henry kept an eye on Layla as he walked back upstairs.
"Sure, do what you want to. But if I hear one complaint about you, then I will make sure to throw you out. As much as I consider you a part of this family, the peace of this mansion comes first for me."
Henry assured Layla, and he got an unnerving smile for his efforts.
"Of course, brother. I understand what kind of situation you are in, and I appreciate your support. I will make sure not to disappoint you and cause any trouble."
Layla promised that before Henry left. She looked happy to help him, but Henry could not help but feel creeped out by her.
Something about Layla's smile made him shudder and feel as if she was not sincere in her actions.
"F-Fine. I will trust you this time, so make sure you keep your promise. If you have any problem, come to me, and we can try to talk it out."
The male finally disappeared, and Layla looked around the table.
The kids around her looked at her suspiciously, but none of these kids were the ones who had been with her when she had lived in this house. Sometime between falling asleep and being awakened, Henry had made sure to turn this place into his fortress.
Layla ate her food quietly, but she was more than aware of the curious glances she was getting from these kids. They were adorable, but no one approached Layla to check up on her either. They mostly left her alone, but that did not bother Layla.
Once she was done, one of the older kids approached her. He looked very at her but was curious enough to know about her. He hesitated before he finally made a sound.
"Excuse me, but please tell me if you want to go inside this mansion. I will accompany you and tell you all you want to know.
Ah, I am not saying this because I don't like you or anything. But this mansion is old and has a lot of traps. I am afraid that you might get into trouble if you walk around alone and injure yourself."
The kid looked nervous when he asked Layal to inform him if she wanted to go somewhere. She felt that Henry was behind this, and he was doing this to keep an eye on her moments.
"Sure, kid. I will tell you if I want to get somewhere. I will head to the guest room and put my feet down. I have been walking for a long time and have not fully recovered. I will call for you in about fifteen minutes."
