Reborn as the Villain in a Romance Fantasy
Chapter 294: 294: Laid out a bait - Part 2
Rossette allowed herself to be taken, her heart pounding with a mix of fear and determination. She had to trust in her plan, in herself, and in the fact that her friends would be ready when the time came.
The kidnappers transported her for what felt like hours, the journey long and winding. Finally, they reached their destination, a cold, damp room that smelled of mildew and fear. They threw her onto the hard floor, leaving her bound and blindfolded.
One of the men sneered, his voice dripping with malice. "You'll regret crossing us. Your friends won't be able to save you now."
Rossette didn't flinch. She knew they were trying to break her spirit, but she was stronger than that. "We'll see about that," she murmured under her breath.
Meanwhile, back at the palace, Layla and Adam were on edge. They knew what Rossette was doing, but waiting was the hardest part. Adam paced once more, his nerves frayed. "We should have gone with her. We should have done something more!"
Layla placed a calming hand on his shoulder. "We will. When the time is right, we'll act. Rossette knows what she's doing. Trust her."
Adam took a deep breath, nodding slowly. He had to believe in Rossette, even though it tore him apart to be idle.
Hours later, a message arrived—a coded signal from Rossette. She had found the hideout. It was time to move.
Layla and Adam, along with a small group of trusted allies, set out under the cover of darkness, moving swiftly and silently through the city. They followed the instructions Rossette had left, leading them to a secluded warehouse on the outskirts of the capital.
Inside, Rossette remained bound, but she was not idle. She listened carefully to the conversations around her, gathering as much information as possible. She knew Layla and the others would be coming, and she needed to be ready.
Suddenly, the doors of the warehouse burst open, and Layla led the charge. The kidnappers, caught off guard, scrambled to defend themselves, but they were no match for the determined group.
In the chaos, Rossette managed to slip out of her bonds, fighting alongside her rescuers. Together, they subdued the kidnappers, ensuring none could escape.
Once the dust settled, Layla turned to Rossette, her eyes filled with relief and pride. "You did well, Rossette. Now, let's find out everything they know."
Rossette nodded, her heart finally at ease. They had taken a risk, but it had paid off. The fight was far from over, but they had taken another step toward victory.
With the kidnappers subdued and securely tied up, Layla stepped forward, her gaze cold and calculating. She towered over the frightened men, who squirmed under her intense scrutiny.
Rossette stood nearby, her expression hardened after the ordeal. Adam and the others formed a protective circle around them, ensuring the captives had no chance of escape.
Layla crossed her arms, her voice low and steady. "Who sent you to kidnap Rossette? What do you know about your employer?"
The leader of the kidnappers, a wiry man with a scar running down his cheek, avoided her eyes. "We don't know much," he stammered. "We were just hired to grab the girl and deliver her."
"To whom?" Layla pressed, her tone icy.
The man glanced nervously at his comrades, then back at Layla. "We don't know. The instructions were clear: grab the girl, hold her for a day, and someone would come to collect her."
Layla narrowed her eyes, scrutinizing him for any sign of deceit. "And you expect me to believe that you have no idea who you're working for?"
The man nodded frantically. "It's the truth! We were just following orders. We didn't ask questions."
Rossette clenched her fists, frustration evident in her voice. "So you're telling us that you're just pawns? That you have no clue why someone wanted me?"
The man flinched under her sharp gaze. "Yes, we're just hired hands. Please, we don't know anything else."
Layla exchanged a glance with Adam and Rossette. The tension in the room was palpable. They were dealing with professionals who had been careful to shield their true identity and motives from their pawns. Layla knew pressing further would yield no additional information.
"Very well," Layla said, her voice measured, "if you're telling the truth, then there's no point in wasting more time with you. We'll wait for your contact to show up."
The kidnappers visibly relaxed, thinking they had escaped a harsher interrogation. However, they failed to notice the flicker of determination in Layla's eyes.
"We'll keep you here until tomorrow," Layla continued, her words cutting through the air like a blade. "And when your employer arrives, we'll get the answers we need."
The men's relief quickly turned to panic as they realized they weren't off the hook yet. Layla's strategy was clear: use the captives as bait to catch the mastermind behind the plot.
Layla turned to Adam and Rossette. "We need to set up an ambush. Whoever is behind this will come expecting a simple handover, not a trap."
Adam nodded. "We'll be ready."
Rossette's lips curled into a small, determined smile. "I'll make sure of it."
They quickly set to work, arranging the warehouse to look as if the kidnappers were still in control.
The captives were positioned to appear as though they had simply restrained Rossette, while Layla and her team concealed themselves in strategic spots around the building.
The next day, they waited in tense silence as the sun began to dip below the horizon. The time for the meeting drew near, and every creak of the old warehouse seemed amplified, every shadow a potential threat.
Finally, footsteps echoed from outside the warehouse, slow and deliberate. The door creaked open, and a figure stepped inside, cloaked in shadows.
Layla's breath hitched as she readied herself, knowing they were moments away from uncovering the truth behind the plot to kidnap Rossette.
The figure moved closer to the bound kidnappers, oblivious to the trap laid for them. Layla held her breath, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
