Reborn as the Villain in a Romance Fantasy
Chapter 69: Ch 70: The confession - part 2
"L-Leave me alone! Y-You won't gain anything if you make me your enemy. All you would be getting is more enemies. I-I don't know what the Duke pays you, but I promise I can pay you more. So how about you come and work for me-"
Mary pretended she could not hear the Viscount's yapping and continued attacking him.
Her attacks barely missed their marks, and the Viscount looked like he was about to faint because of these attacks.
"Hans, do something! I will die if you continue to ignore me like this. Don't we have a contract?"
The Viscount yelled loudly, now dragging his magician into the situation.
Hans had wanted to avoid this mess, but now that he had been called, he could no longer do that.
So, he decided to use one of his most powerful spells on the maid.
"Sorry, Miss Maid. I don't know who you are, but I cannot have you chase after my patron. His soul is mine after his death."
The magician spoke softly as his deadly magic rushed toward Mary. He felt sorry for the poor maid who had to get caught in this mess.
Poor maid! This was not her case, but her young miss had ordered her to chase after her target. It was all her young miss's fault that the maid had to die.
"May you haunt your young miss for your revenge. I am sure that young girl would feel sorry if you scare her a little-"
Hans felt a sudden shift in the air around where he had been hiding. Before he could turn around and cause a spell to protect himself, his neck was grabbed by a strong hand, and he was pulled up.
"An insect thinks he can kill me? I don't think I've ever felt this offended in my life before. Even my young miss casts spells more powerful than you. And she is only six. You are such a disgrace as a magician."
Mary's face smiled back at the magician as she held onto his neck tightly. It made breathing impossible for him.
'I-Impossible! I hit her head on, and my magic was strong as hell. There should be no reason for this girl to be alive-! So how-!'
Hans's thoughts were cut short when Mary squeezed his neck even tighter.
"Stop thinking about it and go to sleep. I need to catch your master next."
Hans was knocked out within seconds, and Mary headed toward her next target. The poor Viscount, who thought he was safe, suddenly felt someone blocking his way.
On closer notice, he recognized that fair face and that delicate-looking frame.
The maid that had been chasing after him stood in front of him.
Her axe was almost twice her size, blocking his way even more than the maid. It was an intimidating weapon, but the maid picked it up as if it weighed nothing.
"W-What do you want from me? Hans? Hey, help me out here. Where did that magician go?"
The Viscount complained as he looked at the maid. He did not doubt getting away before, but now he was unsure.
"I wouldn't look for that magician if I were you. I knocked that man out, so he won't be coming after us for some time now. So, why don't you surrender as well now."
The Viscount looked to be in disbelief. But he was not out of options yet.
He had one last trick up his sleeve and threw his finger ring down.
"Y-You might have defeated Hans, but let's see what you do against his creation. I am sure you won't survive."
The ring turned into a monster, but Mary did not even take a full minute to dispose of it. Her axe cut through the monster clearly, and the Viscount saw her figure through the cut.
"Now, would you stop being a bitch and come with me? I am not in a good mood today, so I won't hurt you. But I won't know what to do if you continue being like this."
Mary spoke this all with a smile, but not once did the Viscount feel that he was safe.
Mary's smile looked terrifying, even if it suited her delicate face. He felt like he had made a mistake being here.
...
"It's such a lovely weather out there. It's a shame that I have to come all the way here to clean up a mess made by someone else. Don't you think so, Layla?"
The Duke spoke softly, but there was no conversation. Layla was sharp enough to recognize an interrogation when she faced one.
But since the Duke was not being clear with her, Layla saw no point in answering his questions.
After all, she was only six years old, and most six-year-olds were not smart enough to understand the real meaning of what the Duke was asking her.
"The sky is clear, but I don't like all this sun. I would rather have it be cloudy out there. But not rain! I hate rain and how it makes everything wet. What about you, Duke? Do you like rain?"
The Duke's soldiers smiled awkwardly as they heard Layla's answer.
She had answered that question without much consideration…or that was what everyone felt.
However, the Duke's eyes narrowed familiarly to the soldiers. He only looked like this at the people he could not figure out.
But there was no way a six-year-old could make their Duke have this look, right?"
When the situation started tense, someone broke into the room with a happy giggle.
Everyone turned to look at Mary as she skipped into the room while carrying her target behind her back.
"Lady Layla, I have the person you asked for. And as a bonus, I got you a magician affiliated with him as well…oh, the Duke is here as well? That makes things easier for her. Here, do with them as you want."
Mary threw the man she was dragging in front of everyone, and Viscount Emmerich flinched at the harsh treatment he was getting.
