Reborn as the Villain in a Romance Fantasy
Chapter 79: Ch 80: Exchange - part 3
The kids had been hastily gathered, and the urgency was palpable. But because Cardinal was calling for them, none dared to be late.
Even among this hoard of kids, it was easy to tell the kid Lady Layla had asked the Cardinal to bring with her.
After all, pink hair was a rare trait, and the person with this hair was the same girl Cardinal Bishop had described in detail.
"Rosette Clark, you can stay behind. The rest of you can return to your rooms now."
The Cardinal spoke Rosette's name, and that made other kids turn toward her with envy.
Even Rosette looked shocked by what had happened, but since her name had been called, she could not refute the Cardinal's words.
Everyone else went back except another kid. He stuck by Rosette's side and refused to let go.
"I did not remember asking for someone other than Rosette Clark to stay back. Get going now, kid, and I will forget about this insult you are slapping me with."
Cardinal Bishop threatened, but the Silver-haired kid refused to head back. His eyes looked stubborn, and it was clear that he would not head back.
At that moment, the Cardinal had no choice but to use force or accept that this would happen.
'Well, that girl did say that it was fine for me to bring back more than one person. I guess I will be bringing back two this time.'
The Cardinal sighed and watched the male child remain unphased even when Saintess Cana threatened to strike him.
Saintess Cana did not hit the kids, but her weapon was inches away from Adam's neck. A little more, and he would have died because of that weapon.
"You got guts, kid. But you were lucky this time because I had no intention of harming you. Next time, you won't be so lucky. So, you better learn your manners fast, kid."
Saintess Cana threatened, but the Cardinal could tell that she felt impressed. Maybe she would soon have an apprentice of her own as well.
"What do you want from Rosette? I won't allow you to harm her in any way!"
The Silver-haired kid threatened as he kept his guard up. He was unwilling to trust even a priest, so he kept his guard up.
"Don't worry, kid. We have no intention of harming anyone. We are here to take you to the people you will escort to their destination. We have checked, and it's not a tough mission.
Besides, the other person called for your friend by the name, so we have no choice but to oblige them. You can talk to them about this commission once we take you to them."
Saintess Cana assured before she assumed a neutral pose.
Her words made Adam tense up more, but he did not question them further.
"Someone called to me by name? Is that Layla? Adam, we need to go now! I wanted to meet Layla as well. It's been some time…"
Unlike Adam, Rosette had no problem showing how happy she was to meet Layla again. She trusted her friend, and she wanted to talk to her.
Her enthusiasm made Adam flinch, but he decided not to question her and just follow after her.
They reached the guest room, where Layla sat and sipped tea.
She did not even look surprised to see Adam following Rosette. She simply asked them to take a seat before she began to speak.
...
Layla was not surprised that Adam had followed Rosette into the room. His eyes glared at her, telling her the younger kid did not trust her.
So, it was good that she was not here for Adam but for Rosette.
The female lead was important in this case, and Rosette looked determined to help her.
"You both can take a seat. I requested Rosette because we are friends, and I wanted an escort. Can you head out with us now?"
Layla asked in a neutral voice. She did not want to show her anticipation or curiosity in front of the female lead.
Her words made Rosette take a deep breath before the younger woman tried to calm down. However, excitement showed clearly in her face when she looked at Layla.
"I…would love to escort you. B-But this is my first time escorting someone, so I don't know what to do. Do I need to do something specific? Do I need to…"
"Rosette, calm down. Take a deep breath and let your nervousness out. I will help you out since I will come with you as well. I hope that won't be a problem for you…"
Adam asked as he looked at Layla. He was threatening her not to leave him out.
It did not offend Layla, but Raziel was a different case.
Before Adam knew it, he was knocked down on his front, and his hands were held behind his back in a way that immobilized him.
"What the…let go of me right now! How dare you touch me like this? Unhand me right now, or else-"
"You threatened Miss Layla. Should I eliminate him so we don't have to worry about him anymore?"
Raziel asked in a clear voice. He did not even seem to be bothered by the fact that he had a flailing kid in his grasp who was screaming bloody murders his way. He simply looked at Layla with a clear look on his face.
*sigh*
'We have not even started our journey; it is already a mess. Thankfully, the original female lead can take charge of the situation…or not. Looks like I will have to calm things down this time.'
Layla sighed before she quickly ordered Raziel to stand down.
"It's fine, Raziel. You can let go of that kid now. I am sure Adam did not mean anything by that."
Layla assured her guard, who reluctantly let Adam go. Adam still looked in a mood to cause trouble, but this time, even he knew when he needed to back down.
He did not cause more trouble after that.
