CHAPTER 360: 345 IT WON’T DO TO WAIT UNTIL SIXTY YEARS OLD
Xu You’an slowly furrowed his brows and asked in a deep voice, "Did that Sun guy bully you?"
He couldn’t believe that Tian Sangsang would say such words. The Tian Sangsang from before was kind and gentle but also proud and pampered. Her apologizing made him think the only reason could be she suffered some grievance from Sun Yandong and impulsively came to him.
Tian Sangsang shook her head, "No, I truly want to reconcile with you."
Her straightforward words left Xu You’an stunned for quite a while, and a fire ignited in his heart again. He looked at her serious demeanor and felt she wasn’t lying. However, her switch was too fast; she was hysterical not long ago, and now this. Besides, he also had his own... Xu You’an said, "Sangsang, I’ve thought about it. What you said before makes sense. Maybe we really aren’t suitable for each other right now. I hope you reconsider."
Just as Tian Sangsang was about to say something, she was interrupted by a clear and crisp female voice.
"Brother Xu!" Zhao Chunying walked in from outside, smiling brightly, but froze upon seeing the beautiful woman standing inside, "Sangsang, you’re back?"
Tian Sangsang recognized Zhao Chunying. Zhao Chunying was from the village, with relatives working in the town’s supply and marketing cooperative. Her family’s condition was decent in the village, and she was a nice person, embodying the health and beauty people favored these days. Tian Sangsang’s gaze lightly fell on her rosy cheeks, and a sudden twinge of inferiority surged within her.
After being battered through the latter half of her life, she found it nearly impossible to regain the confidence she had upon traveling back, but luckily, she’s back again now. She wouldn’t be led astray this time. She glanced at Xu You’an, wanting to know how they ended up together, yet Xu You’an said nothing from start to finish.
"Chunying, are you here to see You’an?" Yu Qixiu gently smiled and said warmly.
Zhao Chunying said, "Yes, two days ago, I was knocked down by a car on the street, and fortunately, Brother Xu was kind enough to carry me to the doctor. Now that I’m healed, my mom prepared some homemade pickled vegetables for me to bring to Brother Xu as thanks."
She spoke with a cheerful smile to Xu You’an, "Brother Xu, you must accept this. My mom specifically asked me to deliver it to thank you."
If it were before, he would not have accepted it. Xu You’an glanced at Tian Sangsang, pursed his lips, and said, "Just a minor help, then I’ll accept it without hesitating."
"Why so formal! I’ll set it inside!" Zhao Chunying happily headed towards the table, opened the lid, and was stunned by the exquisite dishes inside, "Oh! Brother Xu, did you cook?"
Tian Sangsang chimed in, "I came back today and helped You’an cook. Since you’ve come all the way here, why don’t you join us for a meal, Chunying?" She wanted to see how Xu You’an would react. He actually carried another woman?!
"Can... can I?" Zhao Chunying looked at Xu You’an’s expression.
"Since Sangsang has already said it, you should stay." Xu You’an said flatly.
Tian Sangsang held her breath in, clearly angry with Xu You’an’s attitude. Yet recalling her previous excessive behavior, she knew the knot in their hearts wasn’t easy to untie. Sitting together for a meal, Xu You’an wouldn’t refuse to eat the food she cooked, right?
Sangsang busied herself with serving the rice.
"Sangsang, let me help you." Zhao Chunying also rolled up her sleeves to assist, leaving Xu You’an completely unoccupied.
Zhao Chunying tasted a few bites of the dishes and was surprised. She thought Tian Sangsang was a city person who surely couldn’t cook. Yet her culinary skills were unexpectedly good.
Tian Sangsang tenderly picked up some food for Xu You’an, who was silently staring at the rice in his bowl, dazed, "Eat more, You’an."
"Is it good, Chunying?" she smoothly asked.
"It’s good!" Facing Tian Sangsang’s beaming gaze, Zhao Chunying suddenly felt a bit guilty.
After that, none of the three spoke again. After finishing the meal, Zhao Chunying wanted to help clean up but was stopped by Sangsang, who saw her to the door. When she returned, she found Xu You’an silently cleaning up the dishes, with Sangsang also picking up a bowl, yet Xu You’an calmly took it from her, "I’ll do it."
Tian Sangsang bit her lips, looking at his handsome side profile, and asked, "What is your relationship with Zhao Chunying? Why did you carry her? When did you guys start hanging out together?"
Xu You’an was silent for a while and said, "No relationship."
Sangsang hoped he would say a few more words to clarify things. His answer left her very unsatisfied, but he said nothing more and indifferently went outside to wash dishes. Sangsang’s eyes reddened, and her eyes began to glisten with tears. When did it start? When did it become so difficult for them to even converse?
Was she too conceited? Or was she too confident? Maybe Xu You’an didn’t like her anymore? Was she just deluding herself?
Suddenly, she felt a subtle, feather-like flutter from her belly. Through her skin, Qixiu’s heart was immediately filled with joy. She had a child now and couldn’t afford to be too upset.
Xu You’an returned after a while and said softly to her, "Let’s go. I’ll see you off."
"I’m not going." Tian Sangsang moved her lips, "It’s too late. I’ll leave in the morning."
Xu You’an looked at her in surprise, "Suit yourself."
Tian Sangsang saw his indifferent manner and felt not quite joyful. She initially wanted to share good news with him, but now she was unsure. With his demeanor, she felt very unsure. Worried and lost, she lifted the curtain and walked to the bedroom, sitting for a while before feeling overwhelmingly sleepy. When she looked outside, Xu You’an was nowhere to be seen.
She washed up, then pulled back the quilt, lay inside, and closed her eyes. Though very tired, she couldn’t fall asleep just by closing her lids.
No knowing how much time passed, Xu You’an returned. Under the lamp, he saw her lying under the quilt, on her side, her dark hair spread across the pillow, contrasting vividly with her fair skin. Her lashes were long and dark... really cute.
Unknowingly, he reached out his hand, wanting to touch her face, but stopped just before doing so.
Qi Sangsang sensed Xu You’an sitting by the bed watching her; suddenly, the bed shifted. He stood up and seemed about to leave. Sangsang immediately opened her eyes and bit out, "Where are you going?"
He turned around and said, "I’m going outside to make do for a while."
"What." Tian Sangsang laughed dully, "Do you despise me now? We’ve shared the bed many times before; you can’t just cut ties so easily now!"
"That time." He suddenly halted his movement and said, "I’m sorry."
Tian Sangsang’s tears instantly fell, heartbroken beyond measure, as he apologized to her. When she didn’t mind that night anymore and wanted to share the fruits of that night with him, his words completely denied everything she now cautiously cherished.
She furrowed her elegant brows, "I don’t want to hear you say sorry. Can’t you say something else?" Like before, coax her — she’s feeling devastated now.
