Reborn as the Villain's Wife, I Shine in 80s
Chapter 404 - 389 My wife is awesome!
CHAPTER 404: 389 MY WIFE IS AWESOME!
Jiang Jinghuai seemed a bit distracted on the way back.
He tilted his head to glance at her face, as flawless as jade, then looked ahead, his gaze turning cold. "Sangsang, how did you come up with braised beef noodles?" It wasn’t that he wanted to be overly suspicious, but after years of carrying out missions, being suspicious had become second nature. His wife—there were just too many inconsistencies, too many mysteries about her. He was sure of one thing: she wasn’t a spy. Because no spy would be so easily riddled with flaws like her. Then, what exactly was she?
"I came up with it myself, of course. Don’t underestimate a housewife’s creativity when it comes to food. They’re miracle workers, trust me. Besides, I’m trying to be a progressive military wife, always staying aligned with a soldier’s high standards of awareness." Tian Sangsang replied naturally, her clear eyes fixed on him. "What’s the matter? Are you mesmerized by my beauty right now, feeling like you can never leave me?"
So self-absorbed and narcissistic. Yet, it was precisely this version of her that captivated him.
"My wife is amazing!" Jiang Jinghuai pinched her cheek with amusement, letting out a low sigh. "I wish I could spend my whole life tied to your apron strings." Yes, no matter what, she was his woman—the one he intended to spend his whole life with. Her eyes were still so pure and harmless. What was he even overthinking about?
"But I don’t wear aprons that often."
Jiang Jinghuai gave her a sidelong glance. "But you wear something else every day..." (You know what I mean.)
"Ah! A pervert! Somebody catch the pervert!" Tian Sangsang gave his waist a playful slap, only to be pulled into his arms.
She grinned slyly. "Oh, Jiang Jinghuai. The other day, I walked past a super fancy, super extravagant, super romantic, high-end restaurant in Beijing. I think it was called something... I can’t quite remember. It’s on West City Road. Have you ever been there before?" West City Road was a famous commercial street in Beijing, known for its luxurious establishments.
"A Michelin-starred restaurant?" Jiang Jinghuai asked in his deep voice.
"Yes! That’s the one!" She eagerly studied his profile. She was dropping such an obvious hint—surely, he’d get it, right?
"Never been," Jiang Jinghuai replied with a faint shake of his head. "But I’ve heard it’s good. If you want, we can take Yanyan there tomorrow."
Tian Sangsang: "Uh..." -_-||
**
Tian Sangsang and Jiang Jinghuai arrived at the factory.
A delivery truck was parked there, and the security guard, Xiao Lin, was talking to the driver.
As soon as Xiao Lin saw Tian Sangsang, he rushed over respectfully. "Boss, they said they’ve delivered the equipment you ordered and brought it over specially." Since Xiao Lin hadn’t received any prior notice from Tian Sangsang, he didn’t dare to let them in on his own judgment. Now that she was here, he was ready to wait for her instructions.
To be honest, Xiao Lin was shocked. Who would’ve thought that the girl who came by asking him for information earlier—and even slipped him a few packs of fancy cigarettes—would, in just a few days, turn around and become his boss? And now she had taken over this factory. Was it too late to return the cigarettes?
"Yes, I did order the equipment. Open the gate and let them in."
Tian Sangsang greeted the driver briefly.
After Xiao Lin opened the gate, Tian Sangsang and Jiang Jinghuai followed them in.
The factory had been cleaned up—it was spacious and tidy. There were several separate factory buildings, unevenly distributed. Some were one-story, others two or three stories high. Jiang Jinghuai’s sharp eyes discreetly assessed the surroundings.
The delivery personnel consisted of just one young guy—a somewhat fresh-faced driver—but the amount of machinery was substantial. Purification machines, drying machines, and various glass apparatuses. Xiao Lin instinctively lent a hand, helping the young man move the equipment into the factories.
"Be careful, all of you. Don’t get hurt," Tian Sangsang urged, itching to help.
Jiang Jinghuai firmly pressed down on her shoulders, raising an eyebrow. "You go sit on the side. I’ve got this."
"I can do it too."
"Your man doesn’t just serve you in bed; he also serves you in everyday life," Jiang Jinghuai countered. "If I let you do it, what good am I?"
Though his logic made sense and warmed her heart, Tian Sangsang still insisted, "Don’t forget, I used to be the type of rugged woman who’d stroll around with a hoe every day. I could princess-carry a grown man no problem."
"Even so, no way." Jiang Jinghuai found that he could barely remember what she used to look like. Vaguely, he recalled darker skin and the image of her standing on a stage, belting out, "Face injustice with a roar! Strike when the time is right!"
Tian Sangsang suggested, "How about I assist you?"
"With that tiny frame of yours?" With zero hesitation, Jiang Jinghuai dismissed her and hefted a purification machine.
"Careful! Let me lend a hand." She tried stepping in to help but was frozen in place by a single glare from him. "Stand there. Don’t move."
Xiao Lin, returning to fetch another load, snuck a glance at the "boss’s wife." Oh no, wait—he should say the boss’s *man*. Jiang Jinghuai’s tall, striking figure cut an impressive silhouette. Together with his boss, they made such a stunning pair it was impossible not to admire them.
Tian Sangsang had no choice but to stand and watch as they moved the equipment. They worked quickly but still ended up drenched in sweat. She had thought about cooking a meal as a thank-you, but there weren’t any groceries, and anyway, they’d all just had breakfast and weren’t particularly hungry.
Once everything was settled, Tian Sangsang gave Jiang Jinghuai a tour of the factory. The two of them went to the office building to rest. Although the place had been cleaned up, the finer details still needed work. For instance, the office furniture was dusty—to the point where it was unusable. Tian Sangsang found a cleaning rag and was about to wet it when it was taken out of her hands. Jiang Jinghuai said, "I’ll do it. You stand there and don’t move."
Tian Sangsang frowned slightly, watching him busily clean up. After finishing one chair, he moved it in front of her, wiped it down with a dry cloth, and said, "In a moment, you can sit."
He then opened the windows for ventilation and went on to thoroughly clean the other tables and chairs in the office. Tian Sangsang sat leisurely in the chair, letting out a chuckle. "Jiang Jinghuai, going out of your way to be so attentive can only mean one thing: guilt. Come on, spill it. What did you do behind my back?" First, he voluntarily moved machinery, and now he was zealously tidying up the office. He was like a hardworking little bee today.
Jiang Jinghuai wiped away some sweat and narrowed his deep-set eyes. "No need to thank me now. Just give me an extra round tonight."
"..."
Tian Sangsang sulked. "Is now really the time to be discussing this? Don’t you think you’re acting weird today? It’s totally suspicious." I mean, someone who normally wouldn’t even cook is now cleaning furniture?
Jiang Jinghuai put down the cleaning rag and suddenly fixed his dark, burning eyes on her. Step by step, he approached.
Tian Sangsang’s breath hitched. "What are you doing? Don’t talk to me with your eyes, okay?" His sudden shift to this intense demeanor—it was downright spooky!
"Last night, I didn’t wear *anything*." He pressed his lips together solemnly.
I know! You don’t need to keep repeating it!
