Reborn Heiress: Seeking Revenge
Chapter 217: Sentiments (3)_1
CHAPTER 217: CHAPTER 217: SENTIMENTS (3)_1
Including the hospital director, everyone was trembling, not daring to breathe heavily in the presence of these high-ranking officials. The sight of such illustrious figures all gathered at the military hospital in Beijing, all staring at them, was too much pressure to bear, even for the usually bold and audacious.
The director’s forehead was covered in beads of sweat. Shangguan Hao exuded an iron-willed pressure, Shangguan Yu a calm demeanor, and then there were the two Yu Family brothers and the Luo Family members. Their collective presence was so oppressive it caused the director’s body to shudder uncontrollably.
"When can my daughter wake up?" Shangguan Hao’s voice carried a heavy force. His daughter had clearly coughed up blood and fainted, and now they claimed she was just sleeping—two days and nights of sleep. These quacks!
"What exactly is wrong with my daughter-in-law’s body? Director, hmm?" Yu Jiaqi swept a glance at the director, who seemed on the verge of fainting, and asked in a tone that attempted to be personable. Upon hearing the words "daughter-in-law," both Shangguan Hao and Shangguan Qing glared fiercely at Yu Jiaqi. Marry Youyou to Yu Zifeng? In his dreams! Now that both families are fine, this engagement is naturally void.
For now, Youyou had not awakened; they would discuss everything once she did.
"The Shangguan Family’s girl saved our patriarch and even cured his longstanding ailment. She fainted while saving him. What exactly is going on with her body?" Luo Jing’s sharp gaze swept over the experts before him as he spoke indifferently.
The leaders from Beijing’s military and political circles had arrived. Although they weren’t overtly angry or outraged, their long-standing air of authority placed an intangible pressure on everyone present.
The director wiped the sweat from his forehead and gathered his courage before slowly speaking.
"Miss Shangguan fainted due to physical exhaustion. There appears to be no problem with her body."
"No problem?" Shangguan Hao’s voice inadvertently rose. If there was no problem, why wouldn’t she wake up? His roar left the director speechless, unable to give his rehearsed excuses.
"Director Yang, perhaps another specialized consultation is in order," Yu Jiaqi said, his voice filled with the same disbelief Shangguan Hao felt. In fact, he didn’t believe it either.
"Indeed, I suggest another expert consultation," Luo Jing said, his tone somewhat menacing. "A person coughs up blood because of internal injuries. How can someone with internal injuries not be sick? If you can’t diagnose it here, then you’re not fit to be military doctors. Perhaps we should bring in a few specialists from the provincial level."
"No, no, no need to transfer anyone! We’ll conduct another thorough medical examination on Miss Shangguan right away!" Director Yang and the other doctors quickly agreed, wiping cold sweat from their brows. They immediately began to examine her again, test by test.
Outside the sickroom, members of the Shangguan Family and Yu Family, including the two brothers from the Luo Family, waited anxiously.
"Brother, when will Shangguan You awaken?" Yu Zijin asked, looking at his hands, as white as jade. Recalling Shangguan You’s deep, ocean-like eyes before she fainted, he couldn’t help but express his worry. He was acutely aware of the state his hands had been in. It was only because of Shangguan You that they had healed without any issues, allowing him to be here now, active and well.
"She will awaken," Yu Zifeng muttered, gazing at the closed door of the sickroom. He felt an unexplainable bond with Shangguan You. Perhaps it began when their elders had arranged their marriage amidst the flames, a situation that could have been their end. Ever since they escaped death together, he had felt a strange attachment to her. Seeing her lie there, pale and powerless, caused an inexplicable, recurring pain in his heart.
"Yu Zifeng, let me tell you, Youyou will definitely wake up," Shangguan Qing, with red-rimmed eyes, glared at Yu Zifeng. Youyou fainted saving us. I’m sure the others are still confused too. We were clearly in a sea of fire, flames about to engulf us, yet in the blink of an eye, we were all outside. We escaped. Others might not know, but I have a feeling it was Youyou who saved us. If she doesn’t want to talk about it, I won’t ask. We’ll find out when she’s ready to tell us. I know Youyou will always be my girl; she would never harm us.
How they had escaped the inferno was a mystery to all. Whether through surveillance footage or satellite imagery, all that could be seen was the great fire, and then, inexplicably, the group of people appeared outside it. The incident became an unsolved case, as even those involved didn’t know what happened. Others had no way to investigate, and no one knew the answer.
As anxious family members waited outside the sickroom, the doctors inside were equally anxious in their examinations. Yet the results were the same—no discernible issues. There were no problems, but the fact that the patient wasn’t waking up *was* a major problem.
As the doctors fretted, everything went dark before their eyes, and they all fainted. The previously locked windows flew open, admitting two figures—a captivating feminine silhouette and a tall masculine one.
"Young Master, Miss Shangguan is still unconscious," the woman said in a frosty voice. She then pulled the needles from Shangguan You’s body and helped her to sit up.
"Ye Qiu, take off her clothes," the Young Master said, his deep voice tinged with pain as he turned his back. This fool! She actually exhausted all her Spiritual Power, casting the Stasis Curse twice in one day to save those idiots. They’re so stupid, they deserved to be burned alive!
"Yes, Young Master," Ye Qiu responded softly. She carefully supported Shangguan You’s body and began to remove her clothes. The smooth texture of her skin, like that of a baby, made Ye Qiu’s body involuntarily tense. Had she made a mistake? How could she be seeing skin so incredibly translucent here?
"TSK, TSK, TSK, this girl has a decent face, though her figure hasn’t fully developed yet. I didn’t expect her to take such good care of herself; this skin is so tender it looks like water could drip from it. TSK, TSK, TSK." The Young Master glanced at her back and spoke teasingly. A fleeting tenderness softened his deep eyes, but it vanished in an instant, too quick to catch. He reached out with his long, slender hand and gently touched her back.
