CHAPTER 319: CHAPTER 319 THE HIDDEN SECRET OF THE SHEN FAMILY (1)_1
"Attack! Get him! Beat him hard and show him what we’re made of!" the other three men in black howled as they slashed their knives towards Shen Cheng.
"You don’t know your own limits. I was fighting when you lot were still in diapers!" Shen Cheng cursed angrily, spinning with a roundhouse kick that sent the three men sprawling to the ground.
"Dammit." The man in black spat out a mouthful of blood. Clenching his fist, he swung at Shen Cheng again. Shangguan You’s lips curved up slightly as she watched Shen Cheng vent his rage on the four men, her smile widening.
"Motherfuckers! Daring to touch my people? You’ve got some serious nerve! Brothers, get them!" With that shout, dozens of black-clad men burst out from the alleyway where Shangguan You had been, brandishing knives and charging towards Shen Cheng.
Shen Cheng could handle a few men, but not dozens, especially when some of them might have guns. He had to admit he wasn’t skilled enough to take them all down.
His expression darkened. What started with just a few men had stirred up a hornet’s nest, drawing out countless black-clad individuals. Judging by their demeanor, they were clearly accustomed to the underworld. Fluidly handling the ones nearby, Shen Cheng glanced over at Shangguan You several times.
She wouldn’t just drive away alone, abandoning her savior to suffer in her place, would she? Because he was momentarily distracted, several punches landed on him.
"Get in the car!" Shangguan You yelled. Her deep eyes flashed as she swiftly took the driver’s seat, urging Shen Cheng to hurry.
Shen Cheng executed another spin kick to push away his assailants and agilely jumped into the car. Shangguan You hit the gas as the strong headlights pierced the night, speeding away.
"Chase them! Catch that girl for me! Hurry, don’t let her escape, do you hear me?"
"Get after her!"
"Don’t let her get away!"
Amidst the chaotic shouting, countless knife-wielding black-clad men were hot on the car’s tail, while several vans also sped towards them.
"How did you get on their bad side?" Shen Cheng asked, noticing the pursuers and eyeing Shangguan You’s proficient driving with suspicion.
"I only heard some things I shouldn’t have," she replied lightly, peering through the rearview mirror at the vehicles closing in. She had not expected to overhear such a big secret simply by making an appearance—her luck really was something else. She had intended to leave unnoticed, but never anticipated stumbling upon an expert among them.
"What did you hear?" Shen Cheng asked curiously. People who dared to go after a commander’s daughter had colossal guts.
"It’s better if Mr. Shen doesn’t know about this," Shangguan You said, slamming the brakes with a sharp SCREECH. She cast a fleeting look at Shen Cheng before bringing the car to a steady halt on the roadside and opening the door to get out. "Otherwise, you risk getting burned."
"Where are you going? Those men are still following us. It’s dangerous for you to go out there; if they catch you, you’ll be in serious trouble," Shen Cheng said, reaching out to grab her hand, but she dodged away, leaving his hand awkwardly hanging in mid-air as he looked at her.
From their first meeting, he had felt something special about her. However, after learning her identity at the banquet and seeing her attitude towards Shen Jia, his initial interest in getting to know her had waned. Yet, unexpectedly, they met again under such circumstances.
"I’m naturally going home. And thank you for today," Shangguan You responded.
"Let me take you home. I can’t rest easy with you out alone in the middle of the night. Besides, I drank too much tonight and need you to take me to Shuiyue Villa," Shen Cheng said, slumping back and gradually closing his eyes.
"They’re over there! Quick, after them!" The mention of Shuiyue Villa caused Shangguan You’s brows to rise. It was only after hearing the pursuers’ shouts that she sat back down, hitting the accelerator and shooting forward.
Shuiyue Villa... Shuiyue Villa. That was the marital home Wanyou and Shen Cheng had shared, the villa they moved to after leaving the Shen Mansion. She had lived there for two whole years. It was only the sound of bullets that snapped the dazed Shangguan You back to reality. A cold light flashed in her deep eyes. The jolt in the car also startled Shen Cheng awake.
"Hold tight!" Shangguan You’s cool voice rang out. She rammed the car hard into the vehicles attempting to pincer them. CRASH! The impacted vehicle was sent careening to one side. Shangguan You’s eyes flashed. SCREECH! She slammed on the brakes and then rammed into another car.
BANG! BANG! With two more loud collisions, their target car charged onto the sidewalk and smashed into a wall. It flipped over and, with a deafening ROAR, burst into flames.
Shangguan You’s lips quirked up slightly, her brows arching. She extended two fingers towards the wrecked vehicles behind them, then slammed on the accelerator, the car roaring away and vanishing into the night.
Shen Cheng watched the familiar action, the confident glint in her eyes. He stared unblinkingly at Shangguan You. Through her, he seemed to see the Wanyou of the past. Wanyou used to make that exact same gesture every time she overtook another car.
Shangguan You’s lips curved subtly. She knew Shen Cheng was watching her, but what did it matter? She was Shangguan You; Wanyou was dead.
"Miss Shangguan, do you know Wanyou?" Shen Cheng’s gaze was fixed on Shangguan You, capturing all her expressions and movements.
"Wanyou? Of course, I know her." Shangguan You raised an eyebrow, her tone neutral, yet it made Shen Cheng’s heart tighten. "Those heartfelt confessions you, Mr. Shen, published in newspapers and online are still the talk of the town. Throughout Beijing, and even further afield, who wouldn’t know Wanyou? It would be laughable not to."
"Heh heh." Shen Cheng chuckled awkwardly, glancing again at Shangguan You before shifting his gaze to the dark night outside the window. He felt an inexplicable ache in his heart.
"I’ve arrived. Thanks for the ride." The car Shangguan You was driving screeched to a halt. She quickly got out, tossed out the words, and dashed towards the residential complex. Shen Cheng watched her receding figure until she disappeared completely into the darkness. Only then did he drive the car towards Shuiyue Villa.
