CHAPTER 160: CHAPTER 159: THE WINERY IS IMPROVING

Fang Xin pretended not to see and kept her head down, eating the rice in her bowl. Lin Wan did the same.

In her past life, besides criticizing her, her aunt seemed to mention Shen Rong’s job as well. At the time, she didn’t pay much attention, but she knew that eventually, Shen Rong joined a noodle factory.

With her daughter’s job unresolved, Zhang Huilan was in no good mood after the meal, and Grandma, not wanting to see her sour face, hurriedly urged them to leave after eating.

Before leaving, her aunt didn’t forget to take two cans and a box of snacks, claiming it was for her pregnant daughter-in-law who needed some nourishment.

Grandma didn’t fuss over it too much; after all, she couldn’t eat those things herself.

Shen Rong acted coy in front of Grandma for a while and took two boxes of balm and a few bars of soap.

The mother and daughter made sure not to miss out on any benefits.

"Mom, you’re always letting them get their way," Fang Xin complained that her mother-in-law was too indulgent with her elder sister-in-law.

"Sigh, you all know her temper well. When she was younger, she often made the neighbors laugh at her. Now that she’s older, I won’t live for many more years. I turn a blind eye just for peace of mind. Part of the reason we bought the house for them and divided the family was because of Xiao Yi, and a big part was because of her."

"Mom, you’re still in good health, so stop talking about such gloomy things." Fang Xin actually liked her mother-in-law quite a bit; since she married Xinghe, she had never had a disagreement with her mother-in-law.

"Mom, Second Sister-in-law, let Eldest Sister-in-law take it if she wants. I knew it wouldn’t reach you, so I purposely bought the cheap stuff. There’s a bag of eggs and dried vegetables hidden in the cupboard in your room. I’ll have Xiao Wan bring it to the kitchen in a while."

"Third Sister had a good idea, why didn’t I think of that? Next time, Second Sister-in-law, follow her example."

Lin Wan was originally busy tidying up the table, but Second Aunt and her mother-in-law pushed her out, not letting her touch anything.

After lunch, Hu Dong didn’t nap and directly told Shen Qing that he was leaving first to hang out with classmates.

After Shen Qing and Fang Xin finished tidying up, they also headed home. Second Aunt had to visit her own mother’s place, so she didn’t nap either and left with Shen Jie.

Before leaving, Grandma had Lin Wan pack some soap for them; their family made this, so buying from others was a waste of money.

With the guests gone, usually, she and Grandma ate very plainly.

Grandma, being older, preferred porridge and didn’t like stir-fry dishes, mostly getting by with pickled vegetables.

Lin Wan wasn’t particular; she occasionally made a cold dish to get by.

The next morning, Lin Wan went early to the wine shop, only to find her brother and Brother Li were even more enthusiastic, already busy organizing boxes and delivering goods.

"Little sister, yesterday afternoon, Cong Nan and I made the rounds, and our wine is selling really well among the merchants. Today we need to restock," Lin Yinghui enthusiastically explained to Lin Wan when she arrived.

She had anticipated the good business but wasn’t as excited as the two of them. Recently, plums and mulberries went off the shelves, so those two types of wine couldn’t be made anymore. Grapes were in season now, though.

Lin Wan discussed with Li Jianye and decided to start brewing wine from grapes next.

She spent the whole day at the wine shop, watching them busy with deliveries. Since she had to report to school today, Lin Wan went home early.

She took out the military-green school bag she bought for herself and prepared a pencil case.

With classes starting at 6:30 PM, Lin Wan and Grandma ate dinner and then headed to school, with Lin Wan carrying her backpack and cycling there.

The fashion design class was in a large classroom on the leftmost area of the first floor. When Lin Wan arrived, the classroom was already almost full.

"Lin Wan, over here," said Yin Peibai, who sat on the right side of the middle row, by the aisle. Lin Wan spotted her as soon as she came in.

"Yin," she responded.

"Sit here; I purposely saved a spot for you. Let’s be desk mates," offered Yin Peibai, who only knew Lin Wan from the entrance exam; they weren’t well acquainted otherwise.

Lin Wan didn’t mind having company, and during the lesson, a middle-aged female professor in her forties came in — Professor Su, who would be responsible for the class going forward.
