CHAPTER 308: CHAPTER 307: CHERISHING PAIN
While chatting, Lin Wan unknowingly fell asleep. Han Yi looked at the clock; it was already past two in the morning. Watching Lin Wan’s peaceful sleeping face, Han Yi couldn’t bear to look away. He held Lin Wan, sometimes stroking her hair, sometimes touching her face, wanting to make up for all the longing accumulated over the past few months.
They slept late, and after a while of tossing around, Han Yi deliberately turned off the alarm Lin Wan had set. Early in the morning, he got up quietly and left the room, heading for the front yard.
Lin Wan slept until she woke up naturally and found it was already past nine. Puzzled, she looked at the clock, realized it had been tampered with, and knew it was none other than Han Yi, so she hurriedly got out of bed with a bit of annoyance.
"Awake?" As Lin Wan had just stepped out of the main room, she saw Han Yi returning from outside, holding a pancake and a bowl of porridge. "Mom asked me to bring it to you. Hurry up and wash up to eat while it’s hot."
"Why didn’t you wake me up this morning?"
"A son-in-law seldom comes back, he has to behave well, right? We slept late last night, so I couldn’t bear to wake you. Don’t worry; all the food at the early market was made by me and my elder brother. We didn’t let Mom get involved. It was also me and my elder brother who sold the stuff."
"You two grown men!" Lin Wan took a toothbrush from the kitchen, went to the sink, and while brushing her teeth, listened to Han Yi, muttering with foam in her mouth.
"Mom said she’s not going to the shop today. My brother and I will go out to buy a door later and fix the back door these days."
"Okay," her brother had initially planned to fix it this week, and now with Han Yi’s help, it’s just right.
By the time Lin Wan was eating, Han Yi had already gone out.
Shortly after, Mom came over to help her, quickly making clothes to sell, or otherwise she’d be too anxious seeing them.
"Mom, did your son-in-law appearing at your door early in the morning scare you?"
"You cheeky girl, always saying insincere things. He came back last night; why didn’t you say something at the front yard? Made me jump out of my skin."
"It was too late last night, and it was raining. I was afraid of disturbing your rest."
"No news for so long. It’s time for him to come back. If he didn’t, I would have thought he might be like your dad back then."
"Mom, where are you going with this? Han Yi said he has a month’s vacation this time. We’ll stay home with you for the whole month."
"Why accompany me? I even think you guys are in the way. Han Yi rarely gets such a long break; you two should make the most of it. Try to conceive one. While I’m still young, I can help you look after the child."
"Mom, I know."
Lin Wan and Mom spent two hours making more than ten pieces of clothing. When they went out to mind their business, they could already hear the dinging sounds from the backyard.
A bluish-green wooden door was placed in the yard. Han Yi and her brother were working on the door frame according to its size on the wall.
"The yard feels too empty. This month, while Xiao Yi is home, I want to raise some chickens at home. It’s convenient for laying eggs or slaughtering them to eat," said Liang Hongmei as she looked at her daughter’s yard, thinking of the place in their backyard.
"Sure, raise a few more. We only plant some vegetables in our yard." She hadn’t thought of raising chickens.
"It’s time to plant some vegetables; otherwise, buying everything is too wasteful."
Lin Wan and Liang Hongmei took the freshly sewn clothes, sat in the yard sewing buttons, chatting while watching the two men dig out the door frame.
Lin Yinghui had been the man of the house since he was young, and he was skilled at this kind of masonry work. Han Yi had been doing house chores since he was young, so he could do this too.
By late morning, they had almost finished making the door frame.
At noon, Liang Hongmei cooked a mushroom chicken soup and stir-fried winter melon with chili. The family ate lunch without resting afterward.
