CHAPTER 440: CHAPTER 438: RETURNING HOME

Lin Wan finally unbuttoned her dress. From the delivery until now, she had been wearing this dress, with only buttons at the front. If it were a regular dress, she would have had to lift the whole thing. Lin Wan thought to herself that during the breastfeeding period, she probably wouldn’t be able to wear dresses.

Following her mother-in-law’s method, she fed the baby.

Luckily, it wasn’t too much trouble; the baby instinctively began to suck as soon as it touched her.

Lin Wan felt a sharp pain from the baby’s sucking, but she didn’t make a sound.

An elderly woman nearby looked at Lin Wan and laughed, "Is this your daughter-in-law’s first child? She’s so shy about feeding the baby."

Shen Qing smiled, "Yes, it’s her first time, feeling embarrassed. We all went through this, it’ll get better with time."

"Yes, when my daughter-in-law had her first, she was the same, haha," added the elderly woman, which didn’t bother the daughter-in-law on the bed, who just laughed while holding her baby.

When Han Yi returned, he was holding a plastic feeding bottle. Seeing him sweating profusely, one could tell he was very anxious. "Why are you in such a hurry, child? What if you get a heatstroke? Go wash your face," said Shen Qing, taking the bottle and urging her son to cool off and refresh himself.

Han Yi smiled slightly, relieved to see Lin Wan awake and holding the baby.

All the way back, his mind was filled with the baby’s cries, pulling at his heartstrings and making him very uneasy.

"Go wash up, the baby just drank my milk and fell asleep," Lin Wan nudged Han Yi and urged him to freshen up with a smile.

Shen Qing rinsed the bottle with boiling water and set it aside for future use.

"Xiao Wan hasn’t started producing milk yet, the baby probably didn’t get much just now, and will surely wake up again soon."

"Mom, I can get up and move now, why don’t you lie down and rest for a while," Lin Wan suggested, knowing her mother-in-law had stayed up all night and couldn’t endure it.

"I took a nap in the corridor at dawn, I’m not sleepy now, but Xiao Yi stayed up the whole night watching over you and the baby."

At around eleven, Mom and brother came, having stewed a whole chicken and brought porridge for Xiao Wan.

They made egg-fried rice for Han Yi and Shen Qing.

"Mother-in-law, eat dinner and go back to rest, come again tomorrow to replace us. I guess we can be discharged tomorrow."

"Alright, I’ll come tomorrow."

Liang Hongmei served a small bowl of chicken soup to Lin Wan and fished out the two chicken legs, giving one to Shen Qing and one to Han Yi.

"Mom, I won’t eat, give it to Xiao Wan."

"Xiao Wan should just drink the soup now, it’s not good to eat meat yet. In a few days, she can eat the meat. You eat this."

Han Yi was surprised to hear this. Seeing his wife could only have clear soup, he lost his appetite too.

After Shen Qing left, Liang Hongmei was busy in the afternoon, as Lin Wan hadn’t started lactating, and the baby drank formula. Since it was everyone’s first time doing this, it took quite a while.

Lin Wan came from the future. In her previous life, she worked as a nanny and had cared for other people’s children. She knew how to prepare formula.

Small children consume little, just two to three milliliters.

After drinking the milk, before she could even put the baby down, it pooped.

The baby had a bowel movement, and the mom just threw the diaper away.

After attending to the baby, Liang Hongmei and the other family members went to wash the diapers.

"Xiao Yi, you go rest, Mom and I are here," Lin Yinghui took over from Han Yi at this point.

"I’m not sleepy."

"Are you superhuman or something, staying up for a whole day and night? What if you exhaust yourself?" Lin Wan glanced at her and said.

"When I’m on a mission, I can stay up for two days and nights without a problem, don’t worry about me, brother, you should go back. Don’t you have to report to work the day after tomorrow? Hurry and prepare if you have anything to do."

"No rush, there’s nothing to prepare."

Lin Wan looked at the two men and smiled, not forcing them, then held Han Yi’s hand and said, "It seems we haven’t named the baby yet."

Han Yi smiled with pursed lips, "We really forgot."

"You two! How could you forget to name the baby?" Lin Yinghui rolled his eyes at them and then added, "I heard that when you get discharged, the hospital needs the baby’s name for the birth certificate."

"Ah, it’s so soon, then let’s think of one quickly," Lin Wan got anxious.

"Don’t worry, I already thought of one yesterday."

"You did? What’s it?"

"Yesterday was June 6th, the weather was great, and there were a lot of stars, very bright early in the morning. Let’s name her Xingyue, Han Xingyue. What do you think?"

"Han Xingyue! It sounds great; our daughter will have this name," Lin Wan was very fond of it.

"It sounds nice. I didn’t expect a soldier like my brother-in-law to come up with such a poetic name. Let’s call her Little Star as a nickname, given by her uncle."

Lin Yinghui’s words left the couple speechless; the brother sure knows how to take credit.

Lin Wan was discharged after staying in the hospital for two days. When she headed back, Mom had wrapped her head in a towel and sat next to her in the car, holding a quilt over her head.

She was wrapped tightly with the baby, afraid of any wind sneaking in and suffocating them!

Home was better. After returning to her parents’ house, Lin Wan wanted to take a bath. Both moms were against it and only allowed her to wipe herself with hot water—her face and not even her feet.

The fan in the room was out of the question.

Today happened to be the child’s third day since birth, and according to tradition, it’s time to dress the baby.

At first, all the clothes she made for the baby were too big, estimated for a three or four-year-old to wear. But after seeing Su Ling’s chubby child, Lin Wan realized how small newborns actually are.

Just about the size of Han Yi’s two palms. So, Lin Wan had to alter the clothes.

The tiny clothes came out as adorable as could be.

After returning home, Han Yi focused on Lin Wan, while Liang Hongmei and Shen Qing busied themselves with the baby.

Han Yi spread the thick quilt on the bed as Mom had said a woman in postpartum confinement couldn’t sleep on something too hard.

Lin Wan, still experiencing heavy chills, was worried about dirtying the quilt and asked Han Yi to put a small bedspread the size of half the bed on top.

Shen Qing placed the baby on the bed, and Liang Hongmei quickly fetched the baby’s clothes.

Lin Wan made three half-length monk robes and three short-sleeved one-piece rompers for the baby.

Liang Hongmei picked a half-length shirt for the baby; no need for a bottom piece since diapers are frequently changed.

While dressing the baby, the two moms taught the young couple how to do it. They didn’t want them to be clueless when they weren’t around and accidentally hurt the baby’s arm. That would be terrible.

Being back in their own home was much more convenient, without worrying about anyone stealing the baby.

With Shen Qing and Liang Hongmei around, neither let Lin Wan touch the baby, insisting she only needed to sleep well.

Except for the first night back when Han Yi stayed up in the west room, he and Lin Wan slept together every night since.

Besides being fed when hungry, Han Yi took care of changing and cleaning the baby every time it pooped.

In just a few days, he became adept at holding the baby, changing diapers, and wiping clean as part of his routine.

When Lin Wan wasn’t asleep, Liang Hongmei constantly made her drink brown sugar water.

Plus, her mother-in-law prepared seven or eight poached eggs for her each morning and evening, scaring Lin Wan.

"Mom, can we discuss something? Can we have fewer poached eggs, just two or three would be enough? I can have millet porridge or rice porridge. With so many eggs, I’m going to end up as fat as a pig."

"Alright, alright, we can eat in smaller portions more often. I’ll make less for you in the morning. At night, drink some savory soup to help with milk production. How about that?" Shen Qing understood that young people today cared about staying slim. She didn’t oppose it. She slept in the west room these days, worked during the day, then came back to help Lin Wan at night. Busy, but happy.

Lin Wan kept telling her mother-in-law that there was no need to bother so much, as her mom and Han Yi were already at home. But her mother-in-law wasn’t reassured, so Lin Wan just let it be.

Zhang Dandan, seeing Lin Wan beside her, was extremely envious.

Poached eggs, seven or eight at one sitting, what a treat, and Lin Wan was afraid of gaining weight and didn’t want them.

Tsk tsk, not knowing her good fortune. Her mother-in-law was very kind, granting every request without a hint of typical in-law behavior.

Not only was her mother-in-law good to her, but even her partner pampered her endlessly. In their hometown, it was rare for husbands to take such care of their wives during the postpartum period.

Besides eating and pooping, Lin Wan practically had her hands filled to be fed and clothes changed, not needing to handle the baby at all.

With a good mother-in-law, a good husband, a good mom, and a good brother, the whole family revolved around her.

Everyone doted on her just for having a daughter; imagine if she had a son.
