Chapter 663: Chapter 445: Obsessing Over Trivial Matters_2
The people in the ward were laughing and making a racket, their opinion unanimous, which was to welcome Doctor Xiao Lin to often come and please their eyes.
Clearly, there was a significant difference between the aesthetic perspectives of the city and the countryside; in the countryside, Doctor Xiao Lin wouldn’t be considered a treat for the eyes at all.
After leaving the ward, Chuxia and Wang Jing went straight back to the office, while Song Xiaoyu took the logbook to another large office to hand over the shift to the on-call physician, Li Qiaozhu.
Wang Jing kept a stern face, and Chuxia couldn’t be bothered to deal with her. After tidying up her stuff—and Song Xiaoyu’s—she sat in the chair waiting for Song Xiaoyu to return.
“Lin Chuxia, we need to have a serious talk,” Wang Jing said.
“What’s there to talk about?” Chuxia frowned, her frustration palpable. It was clearly her own personality at fault, yet she insisted on dragging others into endless discussions. Hadn’t she made herself clear, and how was Wang Jing still relentlessly harping on it?
Wang Jing glared at her: “Do you think not letting you clean or do menial tasks is really being nice to you? Fine, from now on, I won’t let you do them. I’ll do them myself, alright?”
Chuxia glanced at her and nodded: “Whatever.”
Wang Jing was unhappy: “What kind of attitude is that?”
“Aren’t you tired?” Chuxia frowned and stared at her, “Are you not comfortable if you aren’t making trouble for others? Can’t we just get along normally?”
Song Xiaoyu entered, noticed the tense atmosphere between the two, and sighed, “What’s going on with you two again?”
Wang Jing went to close the office door and bolted it securely before turning to face Song Xiaoyu, “Teacher, I’m going insane with this ongoing tension. Can we please clear the air today, once and for all?”
Chuxia glanced at the time: “Teacher, I have an urgent matter tonight, may I leave first?”
“You can’t leave!” Wang Jing’s voice rose sharply as she frowned at Chuxia, “It’s because of your arrival that a rift has formed between the teacher and me. Today’s talk is because of you. If you leave, how can the teacher and I continue our discussion?”
Chuxia looked at Song Xiaoyu and remained silent.
“Go ahead,” Song Xiaoyu gestured to Chuxia, then looked at Wang Jing, “Chuxia has something important at home. Whatever you want to say can wait a few more days.”
“Understood.” Sniffling, Wang Jing tried to compose herself as she began tidying the pens and notebooks on the desk, her hands trembling and repeatedly dropping the pens to the floor.
Chuxia sighed, “Sister, why bother? The trouble is entirely of your own making. I’m following teacher only to learn the medical skills properly, hoping one day I can become a true doctor who heals and saves lives.
As for you, Sister, I believe you have the same goal. We aren’t competitors; haven’t I said before, if we unite, outsiders will respect us more. Constantly fighting like this doesn’t do you or me any good, nor does it reflect well on teacher.
I didn’t avoid talking with you today on purpose; it’s truly because there’s something important at home. My husband has just returned from a month-long mission and will soon leave again. Today is a day for family reunion. If I get home late, it won’t look good. I hope you can understand.”
“Thump thump…”
Following the knock, Lin Wenbin’s voice came through: “Chuxia, have you finished work?”
“Teacher, I’m leaving.” Chuxia greeted Song Xiaoyu, grabbed her bag, and hurried out. She opened the door to find Lin Wenbin and Jing Zhe standing outside.
Jing Zhe peeked inside and grinned at Song Xiaoyu, “What are you up to, academic theories? Afraid someone might learn something if you lock the door so tightly.”
“Of course, what if you learned something?” Song Xiaoyu joked back while waving him off, “Come on, don’t dawdle here anymore.”
After Chuxia and her group had left, Song Xiaoyu, rubbing her temple, turned to Wang Jing, “What’s with all this back and forth? Can you really not stand being around me anymore, or what?”
“No,” Wang Jing looked up with reddened eyes at Song Xiaoyu, “I can’t get over it internally, I always feel she is laughing at me.”
“How has she laughed at you?”
“I like Jing Zhe, but Jing Zhe has a fiancée. And yet I’m still trying to please her hoping she’d help me connect with him. She must be laughing at me behind my back.”
Song Xiaoyu heaved a sigh, “You’re too sensitive. All right, Chuxia didn’t want me to tell you this, but since you’ve brought it up, I shouldn’t let her take the blame.
Regarding the matter of Jing Zhe, the mistake was mine. When you said you liked him, I agreed immediately to set you two up. I truly meant it, having known you for so many years and knowing how tough it was for Wang Lei to bring you up, I genuinely hoped you would marry well to give Wang Lei peace of mind.
But then I found out Jing Zhe was already engaged. I wanted to tell you, but upon seeing your hopeful expression, the words just wouldn’t come out. I thought I’d find a good moment to break it to you later.
The longer I delayed, the harder it became to speak. After Chuxia returned, she thought waiting wasn’t right. She said the longer the delay, the deeper your hurt would be, so it was best to tell you sooner rather than later. Fearing you’d hold a grudge against me and ruin our years of mentorship, she took it upon herself to handle it.
To my regret, that drove you deeper into despair. Wang Jing, honestly, after this ordeal, I’ve had regrets. I used to think it was due to your insecure upbringing that made you possessive, hoping you’d grow out of it with age. But I was mistaken. Personality doesn’t change with age. If you don’t adjust your character, it will be difficult to become a truly good doctor.
As a doctor, you hold the health and lives of your patients in your hands. If you can’t even control your own emotions, how can you ensure the health and lives of your patients?”(To be continued.
